My new Hegner arrived Tuesday. It was supposed to be dropped off at my door. I woke up Tuesday morning and forecast was for rain, all day. Rain. In the middle of winter in Minnesota. I didn’t take that into account. Thank goodness a neighbor was able to keep an eye out and bring it in for me. I bought the 18” with stand, magnifying lamp, and quick change. My thoughts so far: I was pleased that it came very well packaged. It was easy to get everything set up. This saw is the exact same height as my Ex so that’s nice. I took off the hold down and the arm that holds it. I was amazed at how sturdy that was! Once everything was set up, I practiced putting in and taking out a blade. Did that about 20 times and said to myself it’s time to make dust. I took the lower blade cover off, it was in the way. The footprint is considerably smaller than that of the EX. Yes, the Hegner has a much smaller table, but that shouldn’t affect what I do, as I generally, am making small parts. I drew a few lines and circles in scrap walnut and put in a Pegas modified #5, my go to blade and off I went. Very quiet, no vibration at all, the blower worked very well. I hooked my my Fein to it and reversed the blower to be a vac. Hose for the shop vac fit, cool! The suction on on top was in my opinion terrible. I don’t care about that because I didn’t know about that until after I purchased it. My first piece was a Rook for a chess set that I am making. 1 1/4” square mahogany. I used a Pegas #5 Super Skip, recommended by Denny at ArtCrafters. (How’s that fair shameless plug). Man, what a saw, cutting that piece was as smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy Peanut Butter. The magnifier will be the hardest thing to get used to. I’ve made about 6 of the chess pieces and just really like this saw. Patti at Advanced Machinery, who I purchased it from, was fun to work with. I have yet to break a blade, or have a blade slip. Both of EX’s the blade slipped pretty much all the time, even with the new clamps from Pegas. After just a few hours on the saw, I can say that it is worth every penny. Thanks again to all who have offered their opinions on getting a new saw.6 points

While working in my shop this morning I nicked my Thumb on my scroll saw blade. I always blead a bunch even if it's something minor. Of coarse I was getting blood all over the project I was working on. I thought that if they can use super glue instead of stitches it might just make a good bandage. Worked great.3 points

Week was cut short as I had Monday and half of today out of the shop... But this is my small list of things for the week.. I don't usually work Fridays as the wife has Fridays off so that is our grocery & errands day. Only cut the backers for the John 3:16 and glued / finished them.. Cut the Love Corinthians 16:14 and backers on the Hegner using #3 Pegas MGT blade.. stack cut 3 then profile cut 6 using #7 Pegas MGT as I cut the profile of all of them together so they matched,LOL All the ornaments was cut with #5 Pegas MGT blade some were stacked as 3 since I had some leftover scraps that was already taped etc. Others was stack cut of 5. Trivets was cut from 1/2" Cherry using #5 Pegas blades as well..3 points -

Playing catch up
heppnerguy and one other reacted to lawson56 for a topic
Well I know I haven't been on in a few weeks, but I have been playing catchup. I have been real busy down in my shop, exploring a few different types of things I haven't done before, or in a long while. What I posted here here is just half of what I have done. I have been seeing Gnomes a lot, never done those, so I gave it a go, Hope it pays off this Spring. Made a few Cell Phone stands, working on a few more. Sponge Bob Model was a 1st. The Helicopter is a Pencil stand. I have a few more things in mind, I am anxious to try. I will try to get here a little more often. You here in The Village Take Care.2 points -

The dust collection port works real well down below. It’s the one through the Loc-Line that leaves a lot to be desired. And yes, the blade change is a piece of cake. I actually like it better than the EX2 points

I didn't figure you'd go wrong with the Hegner once I got first hand experience with one myself with my recent used purchase of one.. I don't think the blade changing / tensioning is as bad as I've seen people mention and certainly not as picky as a Hawk.. Thanks for "trying and reporting " on that dust collection port.. I've been real tempted to buy that thing and now that I've seen two people say they wasn't quite up to par. I'll just save my money and make something of my own up..2 points

"Re"-introduction? Hi from Alabama
Phantom Scroller reacted to hippygirl for a topic
Hello all! I joined several years ago, but I got discouraged and stepped away from my SS. I've recently decided to give it another go and, for SOME reason, I seem to be able to actually follow the lines now...go figure! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and look forward to being part of the forum again!1 point -
another memorial plaque
Tbow388 reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I made this for a couple of Nieces who's mother recently passed away at 95 years old. She was married to my wife's brother who died about 55 years ago and several years later she remarried. My wife and I saw her only a few times since my wife's brother was killed so we really do not have much of a connection with her. We do keep in pretty close contact with the daughters and when she passed I made one of these plaque for each of them.. I modified the plaques a little and got them into the mail yesterday. They will be receiving them on Monday. These are patterns by Sue Mey and like I said, I did modify them a little. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

I have made a few personal portrait patterns and enjoyed the outcome of most of them. I struggled to go through the step by step procedures, that took my so long to achieve my goal, so I do not take the effort to make one very often. This year I plan on making enough of them to be able to go through the procedures in my head without the long process. So I once again took the long time effort to once again begin my effort to learn this process in my head. I fail to take the time to learn new things that take time to learn, so I don't bother to put out the efforts. Here is my newest efforts and I am looking for comments that are on the negative lines. I want people to point out where my weakest parts of this and my future efforts could use some advise so I can see it through someone else's eyes and help me to be more aware of where I need to pay more attention. I understand that we are not here to critique other people's work, but to support them in their efforts to learn. I understand that I am a mediocre scroller, at best, but I have been scrolling for a number of years and still make a lot of mistakes. Please help me, if you choose to and let me hear your thoughts so I might be able to improve as I go along, trying to learn. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

barb.j.enders reacted to Dak0ta52 for a topic
That's was the purpose of super glue when it was invented. I bleed like a stuck hog when I nick myself also due to the meds I'm on. Glad you got it stopped before you bled to death.1 point -

This Weeks Cuttings
heppnerguy reacted to jerry walters for a topic
I don't understand how some of you get so much done in so little time. I just can't do it no matter how hard I try. One thing is I'm 83 years old and can usually cut for about 2 hours. Sometimes when I don't hurt, 3 or 4 hours. At any rate, I envy those of you who can do it longer.n I'm just happy I can still do it. It is my joy in life. Jerry1 point -
Hollow core doors as backing
new2woodwrk reacted to CharleyL for a topic
They also sell door skins, for resurfacing hollow core doors. They are simply glued onto the existing damaged side of the door and are quite thin. Available in different wood surfaces too. I haven't needed any in a very long time, but Lowes has Luan listed for this in 36 X 80" panels for $18, though they are not in stock at this time. Charley1 point -
Beautiful Kevin, as Paul said that would be at least a year for me, you have been busy, RJ1 point

That equals about a years worth of cutting for me... Great pieces.1 point

one for my Canadian frend and neighbor
Scroll-N-Skydiver reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Thank you for the nice comment. I was hoping it would be satisfying to my neighbor who asked for it. He apparently likes it as he has it hanging over his fireplace in his front room. or maybe his is waiting for a really cold day and plans on using it to start the next fire. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
Thanks Marg. I like it too, but as I said, it was an accident.1 point

As they used to say, “Far out man”. Reminded me of the show Laugh-In. And I mean that in a very complimentary way. I too would like to know if that is a pattern available.1 point

Looking good to me, Dick. You know I cannot make patterns. When I try, I lose it on the eyes and the mouth.. I just cannot make them look right. The eyes on this look great, the mouth I would have left off the little final curve on the his left side, just before the cheek line. But if I saw it side by side with the pictrure you worked from, I my disagree with myself. I tried a pattern a couple weeks ago, of my grandson, using the "Cute Cutter' website. ( https://cutecutter.com). I came the closest I ever have to making a pattern. If I knew how to use GIMP I could have taken what I came up with and maybe easily finished it up better with GIMP It was close enough that I cut it. It is only for me so, what the heck. This is were I got to.1 point
