  2. Hey everybody. I haven't posted a lot lately because I have been very busy. This is a good thing with the price of everything going up we need all the help we can. . Here are just a few things I have been working on. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm. Sorry if the middle one offends anyone. My boss asked me to make it for her husband for Valentines day. Have a great day. Mimi

  3. Here is my 50th portrait. I wanted to cut Charlie E's Willie Nelson pattern, since it is the best I have seen. I really admire Charlie's pattern and portraits so I wanted to honor him with the 50th I glued up some poplar and am not happy with the line in his face, I could have chose a better piece. This is a Bowland Farms Brothers Project. My Brother Barry made the frame. It is oak and walnut with oak splines.

  4. Yeppers. I make my own bowl patterns. I love the new saw. I didn't think I could get much better than my Delta but this one is REALLY nice. I love the tilting head instead of the tilting table.

  5. Yes, they can give you much more info on it.. If they've done any upgrades to it they'd have that recorded too.

  6. It's a 220VS ( Variable Speed ) 20" saw which is the "Ultra" version.. Guessing on the serial number and the logo used on the uprights I think it's probably a year 2000 or newer.. Has the added side table option..

  7. Nice job! Are you making your own patterns for the bowls? What do you think of the saw?

  9. Many years ago I heard of a guitar player who played so hard he ripped the callouses from his fingers from time to time and used super glue to glue them back on and kept playing. Don't know if it's true but makes for a good story.

  11. I received my Wen LL2156 scroll saw on 12/5/22. Today it produced a bad rattle and vibration. I found a piece of bearing race on the saw stand. Not sure exactly where it came from. I returned the saw to Home Depot today under the 90 day return policy (saw was purchased online from HD). Went home and ordered a new Wen LL2156. Delivery should be tomorrow.

  12. Hello all! I joined several years ago, but I got discouraged and stepped away from my SS. I've recently decided to give it another go and, for SOME reason, I seem to be able to actually follow the lines now...go figure! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and look forward to being part of the forum again!

  13. I purchased a 6 pattern set last year and made the truck then. Made the coupe today... at this rate, 4 more years and I'll have all 6 completed! LOL The coupe was made with a Cedar body and some Pine fenders. I used BLO as a finish. I knew that both the Cedar and Pine would probably not look good with any kind of finish so I took the easy way out and used the BLO. Btw, the truck has a Maple body and Walnut fenders.

    My new saw

My new Hegner arrived Tuesday. It was supposed to be dropped off at my door. I woke up Tuesday morning and forecast was for rain, all day. Rain. In the middle of winter in Minnesota. I didn’t take that into account. Thank goodness a neighbor was able to keep an eye out and bring it in for me. I bought the 18” with stand, magnifying lamp, and quick change. My thoughts so far: I was pleased that it came very well packaged. It was easy to get everything set up. This saw is the exact same height as my Ex so that’s nice. I took off the hold down and the arm that holds it. I was amazed at how sturdy that was! Once everything was set up, I practiced putting in and taking out a blade. Did that about 20 times and said to myself it’s time to make dust. I took the lower blade cover off, it was in the way. The footprint is considerably smaller than that of the EX. Yes, the Hegner has a much smaller table, but that shouldn’t affect what I do, as I generally, am making small parts. I drew a few lines and circles in scrap walnut and put in a Pegas modified #5, my go to blade and off I went. Very quiet, no vibration at all, the blower worked very well. I hooked my my Fein to it and reversed the blower to be a vac. Hose for the shop vac fit, cool! The suction on on top was in my opinion terrible. I don’t care about that because I didn’t know about that until after I purchased it. My first piece was a Rook for a chess set that I am making. 1 1/4” square mahogany. I used a Pegas #5 Super Skip, recommended by Denny at ArtCrafters. (How’s that fair shameless plug). Man, what a saw, cutting that piece was as smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy Peanut Butter. The magnifier will be the hardest thing to get used to. I’ve made about 6 of the chess pieces and just really like this saw. Patti at Advanced Machinery, who I purchased it from, was fun to work with. I have yet to break a blade, or have a blade slip. Both of EX’s the blade slipped pretty much all the time, even with the new clamps from Pegas. After just a few hours on the saw, I can say that it is worth every penny. Thanks again to all who have offered their opinions on getting a new saw.

  15. A modified Sue Mey pattern to fit 1" x 4" x 10" Hard Maple. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using a Pegas #5 MGT blade. One side says "TEACH". Flip it over and the other side says "LEARN". After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac, sanded again and another dipping. Comments welcome.

    Productive Weekend

I've always been amazed by the members of this forum that can take a picture and make it into a cuttable pattern. Last weekend my wife wanted me to take some pictures of her working with training one of our puppies. I caught a picture of Oreo going over a jump with a dumb bell. Although I had assistance using Cute Cutter, I made a pattern having to add some bridges and then was able to cut the piece. This is my Valentine's gift to my wife. The piece is cut on 1/4-inch Maple stained with Minwax Natural and sprayed with 3 coats of Polyacrylic with 500 grit sanding between coats. The backer is black construction paper. The frame is also Maple stained Minwax Espresso finished with Boiled Linseed Oil and Mineral Spirits. I splined the corners of the frame using Walnut shims. The piece was cut using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. The cross is a new Easter topper for my picket fence board welcome sign. It is cut using 1/4-inch Birch stained Minwax Natural and finished with 3-coats of Polyacrylic, sanding between coats. It was cut using Pegas 2/0 MGT and 0 skip tooth. The backer is Pine sprayed gloss Red. The pattern is by Bulldog 557. The last two are Jim Blume's Americana series. This is Americana 15, both cut in Maple with a Pine backer using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. They were finished with Minwax Natural stain and then given 3 coats of Polyacrylic. The backers are Birch, one stained Minwax Espresso and the other sprayed gloss black. I will be framing these to match my previous pieces from this series using 1X8 cut down to 1 3/4-inches. Hope you like them and as always, comments are always welcome.

  17. I took some time off from scrolling after Christmas and I haven't had much time in the garage since I decided it was time to go back but I have managed to get these done. Hitchcock is for my daughter for Christmas and the oval names are for a neighbour who's got new additions to the family. Hitchcock is cut from 2.5mm bamboo in a shop bought frame and the names are cut from 5mm Blackheart Sassafras. Can't remember what blade I used for Hitchcock but I used PMG #3 for the names. (My new go to blades) Thanks go to CharlieE for telling me where to get the Hitchcock pattern. Marg

  18. This turned up on my local Craigslist, and I am trying to figure out what it is. The posts are pretty bad. I do wish they had put better model numbers on these.

  22. So I need to call Bushton and ask them about the serial number. The saw is too far away to take a look.

  25. I've just looked at a lot of them and called Bushton a million times asking for info on the saws, LOL You are correct though as I was thinking the 226VS on the serial number and they have a total different series for the 220VS.. That said, that logo at the back of the saw is a newer style logo than any of my saws have other than my new saw of coarse, LOL.. I'm not exactly sure when they stopped the round clamps.. but I know they had the T clamp ( Ultra ) style in 1996.. I had a 1993 220VS with round clamps so sometime between there is when the Ultra came out.. To be honest I think 1996 was the first year of the Ultra as I have not seen any older than that.. but I'm really guessing since I'm just basing on what I've seen and read online.. Rolf claims he bought his G4 when they first hit the market in 2005 so I'm guessing that was the ending of the Ultra... However, I've never seen a 20" G4 saw.. SO they might have ran the Ultra style on the 20" saw up until the new BM series came out around 2010-12 ish.. OR maybe the only option at that time was only a 26" saw.. Hawk wasn't and still isn't good at updating the manuals.. They used up their supplies before changing, LOL.. and even then they were less than desirable.. same with stickers they put on the saws.. I wouldn't doubt there could be G4 saws out there with serial tags and stickers for a Ultra.. Yet they seem good at knowing the type and year of saw based on serial number.. LOL..

  26. I believe that was Stevie Ray Vaughn. I used super glue to coat my fingers' ends when I had a cut so I could still play.

  27. Ultra was what I was looking for. How can you tell the age from the serial number? On the Bushton site there are four 220VS manuals listed. When I look at the manuals for these they all seem to have the round bottom clamp in the illustrated parts break down, but the text in the manual contrdicts this saying that the lower clamp is T-Shaped. When did they stop using the round clamps?
