  1. Thanks to @Ron Johnson for the idea of rounding the ends of live edge wood.

  2. I finished two (Stack Cut) Easter - He Is Risen" pattern by Keith Fenton. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood for the face and 3/8" for the backer. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. The backer is stained black. The finish is one coat spray Shellac as a sanding sealer and two coats spray Lacquer Clear Satin with sanding between coats. Comments welcome.

  3. Hey all, Made this Scrollshrimp logo to hang in my small workshop today. Not sure what the wood I used was but then added a backerboard to glue the shrimp pieces to and then a thin frame from a scrap of pine strip. I drew the shrimp pattern myself as you can probably tell ! Regards, Alan.

  4. Well I kind of wondered the same thing, LOL.. I think when they replied they didn't fully understand that I got tired of waiting for a reply to see if a new motor was available so I threw it out.. They offered a "deal" for a motor but I had thrown out the vacuum. If I still had the vacuum I don't think I'd buy the motor anyway as it's close to the cost of just buying a new vacuum and less hassle of trying to wire it all up.. I do have another vacuum but it was purchased "new open box" off eBay for $28 so I put that one on the saw for now and will look for another for my other saw or just buy the Festool or Fein that I really would like to have..

    Dewalt 788

Morning all, For those who have the Dewalt 788 Steve Good has a video in today's newsletter by Matt Haas from Awesomewoodthings.com. you might find interesting if not helpful. It shows many details for repairs and sources to buy needed parts.

  6. I haven't had a chance to watch the video but intend to. I feel like I am getting more vibration than usual and I have been putting more hours on it this past year.

  10. Hello all. While visiting a beautiful old Norman church with the wife a few days ago, I got to thinking if the patterns of the stained glass windows could be used in scroll saw patterns. I would have thought that it would be possible to cut a window pattern as a segmented or intarsia project if you had a good selection of different woods ( sort of like marquetry ). Another option maybe would be to cut the pieces out of say 1/4" birch plywood then paint the pieces before re assembly. My original idea was to cut just inside the line of each piece of glass then the lead that holds the glass in place would become a wooden frame around each piece. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I can't think of a better way to describe what I'm getting at ! Just wondered if anyone has tried this ? Regards, Alan.

  11. A few weeks ago, in order to finish a project I sat at the scroll saw far longer than normal. I found that my right foot really got sore after a couple days. I figured that it was from holding down the foot deadman switch for long periods of time. I know the more intricate the area I am cutting the more tense I get and the harder I pushed on the foot pedal. So after putting an on/off foot pedal on my vac, I thought why not try one for the saw. I know if I drop dead the saw will just keep running when I keel over, but, do I really care. At that point in time I doubt if I worry about leaving with the saw running and will be more concerned about where I am going....! So I got another switch to try out. I will see how it goes, for the little I have used it doesn't seem to be much different, just a little getting use to. And it looks neat on my saw. I just need a steering wheel and a gear shift now!

  13. Hey Everyone! In this scroll saw project we make an awesome Leo The Lion Zodiac Puzzle (I'm A Leo!) from the Zodiac Puzzles For Scroll Saw Woodworking book by Fox Chapel Publishing. I use 3/8 inch Red Oak in for the puzzle. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    Wearable magnifier

Currently I am using a 3x LED magnifier. It is high quality and I have been very pleased with it. Lately I have been doing a lot of intarsia. The accuracy of the cut is super important, not just staying on a line but splitting it. That got me thinking that maybe a wearable magnifier might be of some help. Any feedback appreciated.

  15. Beautiful piece Charlie. I like the rounded edges too. Now, you need to get to cutting out all the bunnies for your “farm”.

  20. Supper glue works good for smaller cuts. In the shop I have a product called BleedStop for small and larger cuts just in case. Its a good product for an big emergency or just a little one. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwj5j6Hlj7f9AhX9bG8EHSs8BMgYABANGgJqZg&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESauD27PnrifDBeIS7l_uW6LjisfXB8JgCyN5pe36_TbVCnB5QoE786PgQ2xpRJRq9R4zPzcO0Ez1lONNndFo4XR-mMu8tOsgs9PuRXDWitoezEtYSyzNuV_tbPJTwe_r1zYMAXLV3h7azcvQ&sig=AOD64_0OEA58oeJE3I2KqKLOQCMyyjGy2g&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwip-pblj7f9AhVvjYkEHbRfAEYQ9aACKAB6BAgHECI&adurl=

    Oh, I almost forgot

I ran across this pattern on Steve Good's site and found it was a really quick and easy one to cut. since I only wanted to spend about an hour in my shop today, I grabbed the opportunity to make it. I wasn't very happy with the stars on the tail and wings as they stood out as being Russian and since I am upset by what Russia is currently up to in The Ukraine right now. But I believe it is Steve Good's use of the star as being American instead and I am using his pattern, I left it as is. When I got it cut and ready to assemble I decided it was a little too plain and decided to round out the leading edge of the wings and the fuselage also the rockets. I thought it made it look quite a bit better and I am planning of giving to to my 5 year old Great Grandson. I made it from a piece of Poplar wood, 1/4 inch Dick heppnerguy

    Wilderness Cabin

Here is the first Kenny Hopkins pattern I believe I have cut. I have had the pattern for sometime and have wanted to cut it but never got around to it until this week. My wife is in Montana visiting one of our great grand daughters so I was trying to find something to cut in my shop while she was gone and came across this pattern and decided to give it a shot. Here are the results. I cut it from 1/4 inch Baltic Birch. it is 17 X 11 inches. I made an extended backer board to work as a frame as I did not have long enough pieces of wood in my shop to cut one. Wearable magnifier

I have the one posted above with all the lenses you can put in. works almost too powerful at times. Great for projects and such but I feel I have to get my face too close to use it while scrolling. Could just be my eyes though.
