  1. Here are two Santas I cut out on the scroll saw (stack cut them so identical cuts). I finally got them finished. The first one is hand carved and then painted with acrylic paints. The second one has no carving, but i used the pyrography unit (wood burning) and burned the fur, beard, and other details before then using artist colored pencils to color him with. The beads on the legs were store bought. As you can see, the different techniques used on each gives very different looks to each. I used the different techniques to see how each would look. I love them both. The pattern is from Lora Irish.

  2. Art and Engineering.. I made a wooden carousel train that moves when you turn the crank. My 3 years old boy really liked it. Wooden Train Carousel.mp4

  3. After 418 holes and 27.25 hours using a Pegas #1 Skip straight blade(s). Will NOT cut another one again. I did stacked cut 3 layers.

  4. Terry (my hubby) and I share our garage. He's at the front making classic cars and construction vehicles (plus he's a carpenter, retired) and I'm at the back scrolling away and singing to the radio. 51 years together. Marg

  5. Gosh yes it's wonderful. First spouse of 22 years just wanted me to "get it done", whether it was building antique repro furniture, custom molding for our home, mantel surround for our new home fireplace or an entertainment center etc etc. Penny, whom I met a year into bachelorhood 17 years ago has always been a crafter. To this day she quilts, Cricut creates (the vinyl version of laser cut crafting I guess), makes custom costume jeewlry, works in wood and anything else that strikes her interest. Today she's to be in our shop again making some decorations for Easter again. What a wonderful life partner I have been blessed meeting... Don

Here are my latest boxes. One is made from Alder and maple. My beautiful Bride has claimed this box. The other is made from Oak and Poplar. The top has an added Alder to it.

  7. More time in the shop with my Shop Partner and wife, Penny. A few rabbit and egg decoration blanks for the Easter holiday completed. We are both learning as we travel this scrolling journey together. Warm weather this week and three evenings in our shop side by side. Love this lady and our lives together. 17 years so far strong. 8. Those are both very cute. Interesting to see how the different techniques bring out different details. The one on the right seems to have areas that "pop" more than the carved one.

I sanded it the top shape on my belt sander, and yes, i used a band saw to cut the top off once I was finished. I don't know if you noticed the dowels in the corners. The finger joints have no glue, they are doweled together.

  20. Nice Denny. Never thought of using B/B ply. I always use 1/2 inch oak. Have to give that a try.
