  1. After 418 holes and 27.25 hours using a Pegas #1 Skip straight blade(s). Will NOT cut another one again. I did stacked cut 3 layers.

  2. The second saw arrived yesterday to compliment our beautiful little Wen 16 inch. Our Jet 18 inch, a comparative behemoth, is a solid, outwardly well-crafted machine that cuts beautifully in the practice wood I tried. I mounted the saw on the newer tilt top stand, started routing the wires to the power strip and attached the LED flex neck light. This little saw inspires confidence. I'll try the "nickel test" next time I plug it in. Quieter than its' brother Wen. I know the Jet 18 and 22 inch saws do not seem to enjoy the following of the DeWalt, Pegas, Seyco and some others, but I studied features and prices deeply before making a decision. The couple hundred dollars or so do make a difference to this retired bald old fat man's billfold. The difference will buy a lot of blades and wood. Busy looking through books on puzzles and following here and on Facebook groups for inspiration. Wish me good fortune with both these saws and my wish to become nearly as accomplished as all you other folks here already are. Don

  3. Here are two Santas I cut out on the scroll saw (stack cut them so identical cuts). I finally got them finished. The first one is hand carved and then painted with acrylic paints. The second one has no carving, but i used the pyrography unit (wood burning) and burned the fur, beard, and other details before then using artist colored pencils to color him with. The beads on the legs were store bought. As you can see, the different techniques used on each gives very different looks to each. I used the different techniques to see how each would look. I love them both. The pattern is from Lora Irish.

  15. Those are both very cute. Interesting to see how the different techniques bring out different details. The one on the right seems to have areas that "pop" more than the carved one.

I sanded it the top shape on my belt sander, and yes, i used a band saw to cut the top off once I was finished. I don't know if you noticed the dowels in the corners. The finger joints have no glue, they are doweled together.

  47. Yes, I am in the Knoxville area. The lady of who, you speak is considered to be one of the most prominent Intarsia experts around. Her name is Judy Gale Roberts and you can find her in Seymour,TN which is just a small area between Knoxville and Sevierville. I have had the pleasure of taking several of her classes since I started on the saw back almost seven years ago. I started with Intarsia and her class right after I lost my mom. It was great means of helping me deal with the loss. (I had already lost my dad many years before.) Since I leave so close, I would drive over each day. It’s only about 30 minutes or so from my house. She used to do 3 levels of classes, beginners, intermediate, and advanced but has such a long waiting list that she is trying to focus on the beginner classes and has eliminated the advanced classes. She only does a few classes each year and they fill up quickly so if you really are interested, I would recommend you call and get on her waiting list as it could be a while. I know her 2023 classes are full. You can find her website here: https://intarsia.com Even if you aren’t ready to take her class, or can’t get in for a bit, but are in the area, it’s a treat to stop in at her shop and see all of her work on display. pits been a while since I did any Intarsia as I kept expanding my scrolling thanks to everyone here in the avillage over the years. I need to get back to it and finish a few pieces I’ve had sitting around now for awhile.
