  1. Looking around in the pirate area on-line I came across this Royalty Free cartoon character image that caught my eye and though it would be a good addition to my collection of cartoon cuttings. It took quite a bit of work to convert it into a scrollable 11 x 14 pattern. The cut panel is 5/32” thk. Birch Solid Core Ply affixed to a ¼” thk BB Ply painted black backer. Cutting was done with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. Mainly large cut outs but a lot of narrow spaced parallel lines and some very small detail areas. The coloring was done with Artist Acrylics and the finish panel protected with multiple coats of spray Polycrylic. The frame is 1 ¾” wide Pine, primed and painted. Comments and critiques always welcome.

    Bass Puzzle

The Bass Puzzle is finished. The pattern by Harvey Blyer. I enlarged the pattern to fit 3/4" Poplar 8" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades and #5 MGT blades for the veining. Sanded with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac, and again a light sanding. Comments welcome.

  4. Just for those who aren't familiar with Artcraftersonline.com, I placed an order with Denny Knappen on Saturday the 11th for some Pegas blades and a package of micro drill bits. He processed it and shot me an email to tell me that it would ship out Monday the 13th. Today, the 15th, it arrived. Tennessee to California in 2 days. You can't beat that for service. Both by Denny and the USPS. Hats off to both. Thanks Denny.

  6. Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments pattern by the late Diana Thompson. The wood for the birdhouses is Basswood and for the little birds, Purpleheart. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #6 Super Skip blade. After sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac, then sanded again. Comments welcome.

  7. I made this clock for my son's Tiki Bar. It's backlit with color-changing LED light-strips.

  8. Hope this makes sense...cut a slice out of the front of the pendulum piece (yellow, not so straight line in the photo), route a rabbit in the inside (above the yellow line) deep enough to place the plexiglass, then glue the front back on. Another alternative would be to fill the cavity with clear epoxy. I wouldn't do this but it could be done.

  9. I might be able to sort of cut to the exact shape as the opening and glue it in. Would be a lot of shaping to get exact fit but yeah I could do that, not sure how I would fasten it that way though. Here is some pictures of the torso and what I’ve got going on with it. Maybe someone has a better idea. My wife says I need to just leave it open as is as she said she thought it’d look better that way. But if I can find a great way to cover this to keep dust out I may not listen to her. I’ll just say I didn’t hear her. That’ll probably get me another appointment to the hearing doctor again.

  10. I had to have an Ablation on my heart, where they cauterize parts of it. I have only been in the shop a little because of some afterwards chest pain and groin discomfort. I decided on one harder project, the bowl (alder and oak) and 2 easy bird houses. They all turned out pretty well. If anyone wants a copy of my bowl pattern, let me know.

  11. I saw these patterns in an issue of scroll saw crafts and knew right away that I wanted to cut it but I really had no one in mind to cut it for so I just sort of forgot about it. My wife mentioned that our oldest daughter was decorating her bathroom in an ocean theme and I immediately that remembers the set of ocean life patterns from the magazine that I wished to cut but hadn't yet. So I looked them up and choose a couple of them to cut for her. I choose a color for the backer boards and after spraying them, I liked the way they looked and so I was happy with them and I hope my daughter is also. Of course I would be happy to cut her some of the other sea life patterns also, should she happen to want them. I just did not want to give her more than she would want on the bathroom walls. As it is easy to see, I cut them from baltic birch play and I used my 'go to' blade, the Pegas #3rev. Dick heppnerguy

  13. Brass screws. Put in a same sized steel screw first, then the brass.

  14. Nicely done. Is that on this site? I'm not seeing that pattern nor do I see a "Pirate area" which I have been looking for

  15. I've had problems with that both is staying glued and the mess. As you can see the scrolled bird silhouettes are outside year round. I think for your project the be best way would be to drill very small holes. maybe 1/32, and use small brass nails. Should be fast and easy.

  16. Every stand I've made for my shop is on wheels including the scroll stand! I use 4 lockable wheels on all the stands. Makes my shop very flexible!

  17. Where exactly do you want the plexiglass? - In front of the bottom open area? If so, I suggest Upholstery tacks - you can get all sorts of different types/designs - put one in each corner

  24. Dick I was born in Colorado and partly raised there. I spent a good deal of my life in Arizona. I found NorthEast Mississippi 30 years ago and fell in love with it here. I have some family left outside of Denver and some family In the New Mexico Mountains. I still love to visit the west and LOVE Western things but now my heart is in the best place on earth where people are still polite, where kids still call you sir and where the grass and trees are greener than anyplace else on earth. Northeast Mississippi50 miles south of Tennessee and 10 miles east of Alabama.

  26. I forgot about the one one hanging on my wall. I thoroughly enjoyed cutting and assembling it. However, it doesn’t work, but I’m 99.999 % sure it’s because of the knucklehead that made it.

  27. That's what I was going to suggest. Either that or sandwich the plexi between the two layers and just darken the exposed edge with something like a felt pen or plexi dye.

  28. That is what I was thinking of...clear epoxy...not sure which brand would work...you would need to make sure it wouldn't leak out anywhere though...I love being able to see the pendulum on the inside. This project is so cool!

  45. I was surprised when I saw your projects and all of them stood out to me as Arizona style work. But you show you are not living in AZ. Do you snow bird there in the winter? Nice projects. They did all turn out nice, as you stated. I hope you can keep increasing your heart health. That must be very difficult to deal with every day. Dick heppnerguy

  48. Making a little progress. Just a bunch of pieces cut and stacked up, nothing is sanded or glued together yet. Think it should look decent once it’s finished up. Still have to drill holes for the clock and make the arms hair and other decorative pieces.
