    A few more

A few more. The bunny is cherry, turtle is Hickory, Snoopy, Mickey and Dragon are left over flooring. The hen is Hickory also and a Terance Thomas pattern. I don't remember what Donald's wood is.

    Tree of Life

I like Celtic style of ornaments and have made many Celtic knots and crosses. This time I tried to make something different using this style and here is Celtic Tree of Life. Recommended size: 10 x 10 inches, 3 layers 1/8 inch. Pattern at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

    I'm a scroller

I am a woodworker first. I have built cabinets, furniture and even a Maloof rocker. But, father time has caused a change with arthritis and difficult back issues and so I have been changing. It started with the scroll saw and love my Hegner. I have made many puzzles for Grandkids, Christmas ornaments, and Intarsia. All I can do sitting down. Well the shaping and such on Intarsia has led me to power carving and more detailed Intarsia. I have made canes, small animals, and dinosaurs. Again, all, I can do sitting down. I have modified my shop to let me sit and do this as well as great dust collection as I work. I tried wood burning but the smoke even with fans and dust collection was too much. This all has been an evolution over time to meet my physical and mental needs. I just love making things from wood no matter how I do it.

    I'm a scroller

I consider myself a scroller too. I have made a few furniture pieces over the years. Due to space limitations I still do some smaller woodworking projects, but 90% of my woodworking is scrolling. I like many kinds of scrollsaw projects, but my specialties are ornaments, baskets, and fancy firewood.

  6. The past few weeks I've been tinkering with carving and wood burning. I was looking for a way to enhance a few walking sticks and canes I'm working on. I've seen tons of both which carvers and burners turn out some incredible projects. So, after many, many failed attempts at both, I've come to the conclusion that I'm am, and always will be a Scroller! After some thinking time I believe I've figured out out how to get pretty close to the carved and burned detail on the sticks and canes with my scrollsaw. It's said that confession is good for the soul, with that in mind let me say; My name is Chris, and I'm a Scroller! Now, back to your regular scheduled show.....

    I'm a scroller

I think trying everything is kind of a mistake IMHO. I would try a couple of things with simpler projects. If you like them after awhile, then do more. If you do not like them, try something else. Do you want to be Jack of all types or more proficient at one or two. It also depends on what tools you have. Somethings take additional tools or are more expensive to do. My desire is to get better at Intarsia and some types of puzzles.

    I'm a scroller

I am a scroller mainly but I am also a woodburner. My husband on the other hand is a woodworker. I can show him a picture or describe what I want and he can create it. He amazes me with his self taught ability. This is why I make sure he has all the tools he needs. However when it comes to scrolling he hands it off to me. We make a good team. Plus any repairs needed around the house he does. If he is not sure he will go to You Tube and find a video to show him what he needs to know. I am very blessed.

    I'm a scroller

Funny you bring this up.. I get friends and family that know I work with wood ( note I didn't say a woodworker ) and they always asking if I can make a kitchen table or a dresser or some other oddball thing.. While I work with wood as in creating scrolled art? The term "art" is loosely used here but I definitely have no idea how to make a table, bench or cabinet and those types of things.. Mostly only use a scroll saw to do my creations and many times don't even know how to use that on some of the oddball request I get. LOL

    I'm a scroller

Hi, my name is Marie and I am a rookie at all things wood. But I love wood...I think it is because it effects all your sense... I love the smell of it, the feel of it especially when it is sanded, the looks of it - I think there are so many beautiful woods, plus I like the sound of it (especially rosewood). One thing I have enjoyed is seeing all of the unique and beautiful creations you have all made with wood. I am still searching on what I really want to do with wood. I do enjoy making cabinets and drawers but they are heavy. I do like scrolling but I get frustrated with myself at times. My ultimate dream is to make a wooden chair or loveseat with beautiful scroll work on it....I know that is a long way off still...

  12. Just starting using scroll saw so I have long way to go. Want to do some marquetry as well as other scroll saw projects. I also do woodworking, woodturning & repair furniture. Partially retired and I live in Grottoes VA in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Looking forward to learning a lot here, thanks for letting me be member. Larry

  13. *One of my artistic daughter's helped me out and drew a new sprig of hair for the left side of the portrait which I added as a floater. Love it when she helps me. My wife found an awesome nursery about an hour from us called, Heimu's Himalayan Gardens. It is run by Heimu, pronounced Hey Moo, who is from Tibet. She sells lots of succulents, which is something my wife loves. My wife picked out lots of plants, I got the one little one in the picture by the little wooden man carving. I told Heimu I liked the carving and she gave it to me, which was a big deal to me because it wasn't for sale but one of many carvings a friend of hers that has passed away had given her. I made this sign for her and can't wait to get back to give it to her. This one was much more gratifying than any celebrity. I found a couple of cool pieces of wood to make planters for my wife's flowers in the woods behind our house. If you're interested here is the link to Heimu's Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/heimu1983

I’d really like to see your work. I’ve made a bunch of canes and walking sticks but have never tried carving or scrolling on them. I have seen pictures. I’ve used Osage orange ( hedge apple ), it’s very hard wood, and contorted hazelnut. I mainly did them to take with us when we go hiking and made a few for a friend that needed one.

    I'm a scroller

I agree with what you say. I'd love to be able to do it all but age, shop size, and wallet all figure into it. I found that I can satify my need for working with wood in the newfound hobby of scrolling. It seems to satisfy my need to create something. I keep looking for patterns that I can use but with some alteratiion to come up with something that serves a purpose. I'm really not into wall hanger or desk sitter. But, I appreciate whatever anybody makes if they truly put their all into doing it. Larry, your intarsia is beautiful. Your love of the hobby shines through.

  20. I made this shelf about 20 years ago for my wife’s parents who were farmers. They are now deceased, Shelf has been broken. I can’t find the pattern. I saw this while doing a google search for farmer shelves. Please, if anyone knows where I can still get this pattern, please let me know.

  25. Looking around in the pirate area on-line I came across this Royalty Free cartoon character image that caught my eye and though it would be a good addition to my collection of cartoon cuttings. It took quite a bit of work to convert it into a scrollable 11 x 14 pattern. The cut panel is 5/32” thk. Birch Solid Core Ply affixed to a ¼” thk BB Ply painted black backer. Cutting was done with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. Mainly large cut outs but a lot of narrow spaced parallel lines and some very small detail areas. The coloring was done with Artist Acrylics and the finish panel protected with multiple coats of spray Polycrylic. The frame is 1 ¾” wide Pine, primed and painted. Comments and critiques always welcome.

    Clocks Scroll Saw Challenge

Here is a clock I did for my Lady's young Grandson. He was actually having difficulty using a clock with hands to tell time because of growing up with all digital clocks. Thought this would help and give him a chance to learn about Chinese numbers at the same time (note the simlilariity to Roman Numerals). He also like dragons.

  27. I just finished cutting this wood-art piece. This one took about 18 hours to cut and another 2 hours to make the pattern. I made it from a painting by artist, Ted Blaylock.

  29. I use a pair of magnetized sewing machine lights. One on each side eliminates shadows. For a magnifier, I really like this one. https://a.co/d/faHL9am. Being worn on my head, there's little need for viewing adjustment.

  31. Shortly after I retired and was then living it Oregon, my wife and I drove to Alabama and stopped at many of the State and Federal parks we could find to visit on the way. I was most surprised by the State of Alabama, as I had the notion that Alabama was the poorest state in the Union. I found it to be one of the nicest states I have been in. The visitor centers were top notch and more inviting than we saw anywhere else. We visited a NASA site there also. I am glad you found a place you really enjoy living. You must live in a rather small town as they always are much more friendly then are the big cities. When we moved to Southern Arizona we found a smaller city midway between Phoenix and Tucson, named Casa Grande, that fit our desires. I have grown to really enjoy living here and the people in our community are quite friendly and helpful to one another. Thank you for replying to my question about where you are living. I enjoyed your reply a lot. Dick heppnerguy

  35. Our Walmarts here in the Houston area are also being overrun by an interesting assortment of people, not the same for any 2 stores. I think (not an original idea) that Walmart is missing a business opportunity. They could put in an observation balcony and sell wine. They could even put in some of the binoculars, those which require a coin to operate, for observing the shoppers on the main floor.

  42. Joe, you must be living right. I just happen to have a book with that pattern. It is titled Scroll Saw Fretwork Patterns by Patrick Spielman & James Reidle. It was published in the late 80's. It is on pages 167-169. Maybe the shelf pattern is on 170. Let me know if I can help you further. Maybe your local library might have it. If all else fails, I can scan the pattern and send it to you. I'm not certain how copyright rules work with making copies. Jerry
