  1. *One of my artistic daughter's helped me out and drew a new sprig of hair for the left side of the portrait which I added as a floater. Love it when she helps me. My wife found an awesome nursery about an hour from us called, Heimu's Himalayan Gardens. It is run by Heimu, pronounced Hey Moo, who is from Tibet. She sells lots of succulents, which is something my wife loves. My wife picked out lots of plants, I got the one little one in the picture by the little wooden man carving. I told Heimu I liked the carving and she gave it to me, which was a big deal to me because it wasn't for sale but one of many carvings a friend of hers that has passed away had given her. I made this sign for her and can't wait to get back to give it to her. This one was much more gratifying than any celebrity. I found a couple of cool pieces of wood to make planters for my wife's flowers in the woods behind our house. If you're interested here is the link to Heimu's Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/heimu1983

    A few more

A few more. The bunny is cherry, turtle is Hickory, Snoopy, Mickey and Dragon are left over flooring. The hen is Hickory also and a Terance Thomas pattern. I don't remember what Donald's wood is.

    I'm a scroller

I like making things, and a scroll saw lets me feed that addiction without spending much money on materials.

    I'm a scroller

I'm a scroller, because I am afraid all the other more complex things I have wanted to do/try may have passed me by: wooden boat building, kumiko, marquetry, carving, woodburning, Harmonica playing, Hotrod building, car restorer, pilots license, Big game hunter, explorer, sky diver, Career lifer Marine, gold miner, worlds greatest lover.... alas all passed me by, so I am a happy scroller. It is tough but someone has to do it!

    I'm a scroller

I am a scroller first and foremost. But I also enjoy wood-turning and dabbling in other forms of woodworking. Nothing big, my shop is too small for that. I also enjoy studying and investigating the many aspects of woodworking. I read the Wood Database to learn about the properties of the various types of wood. Friends who do other types of woodworking have given me leftover pieces of many types of wood, some of which are slightly hazardous, so I have learned to be cautious. Like others of our members, I am on an enforced, temporary sabbatical right now due to medical issues, will do a separate post about that.

    I'm a scroller

You described me. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none. I've not run into anything that I can't at least attemp to fix or make. Sometimes I get in over my head and have to ask for help but most generally if I did deep enough I can find the answer and git er done!

I totally agree with you. I do occasionally make a wall hanger if it appeals to me but for the most part I prefer woodworking with purpose, something that had a use.

    MIA

As the title says I've been MIA for awhile due to health issues and unable to saw for a few months. Being on light duty wasn't so bad as I got to play with my other hobby as a radio amateur even got a new radio or two lol. As I was away from the saw for so long I forgot a lot that I had learned and took awhile to get back into it and really I'm not back up to where I was even after a couple of weeks. Here's some stuff I've cut since I've got back at it, not sanded or finished yet and lots of mistakes as usual, but I'm told if I don't make them I'm not learning . Good to be back and thanks for looking

    I'm a scroller

Different strokes for different folks, the reason I'm learning to scroll is so I can combine it with other crafts, I don't need to be a master but want to be proficient. When I'm at the level I need to be I'd like to do some furniture inlays and piercing amongst other things, plus my wife's always wanting a sign lol most of all I want it to be fun and enjoyable. There's nothing wrong with being a jack of all trades, it's a shame that name carries a stigma, being just proficient in many areas still means you can make, many different attractive projects.

    Urrgggghhh

Second attempt at cutting this Jim Blume bullrider pattern. The first attempt on thin ply resulted breaking off pieces while sawing, so I decide to try cutting it out of 5/8 Maple boards 16x16. I was progressing Nicley with a few cuts left. This morning before finishing it up I decided to clean up and vac the workshop, caught the cutting with the vac hose and it hit the floor hard and shattered a good few chunks out. It's beyond super glue I'm afraid .... I need to take a break I'm bummed ! I guess I leant some stuff cutting it, on a accomplished scrollers advice I changed blades half way through from FDUR to FD Polar and it made cutting so much easier.

    I'm a scroller

I agree with what you say. I'd love to be able to do it all but age, shop size, and wallet all figure into it. I found that I can satify my need for working with wood in the newfound hobby of scrolling. It seems to satisfy my need to create something. I keep looking for patterns that I can use but with some alteratiion to come up with something that serves a purpose. I'm really not into wall hanger or desk sitter. But, I appreciate whatever anybody makes if they truly put their all into doing it. Larry, your intarsia is beautiful. Your love of the hobby shines through.

    I'm a scroller

Hi, my name is Marie and I am a rookie at all things wood. But I love wood...I think it is because it effects all your sense... I love the smell of it, the feel of it especially when it is sanded, the looks of it - I think there are so many beautiful woods, plus I like the sound of it (especially rosewood). One thing I have enjoyed is seeing all of the unique and beautiful creations you have all made with wood. I am still searching on what I really want to do with wood. I do enjoy making cabinets and drawers but they are heavy. I do like scrolling but I get frustrated with myself at times. My ultimate dream is to make a wooden chair or loveseat with beautiful scroll work on it....I know that is a long way off still...

  18. I've got 4 casters mounted to the bottom of my stand. It rolls wonderfully, and when I want it 'parked' I stand a 2x4 on edge in the middle of the back. It lifts the stand just enough to not roll and gives an extra wee bit of table tilt toward me.

    Another little clock

Very nicely done!! Clocks are a lot of fun to make and are a functional piece of art.. Can be custom themed to match any person's interest.. So you also wake up in the night with a bright light idea.. at least you remember yours when you wake up in the morning? sometimes when the idea is so good i have to get up and make myself a note..

By the way. Attached is the pattern I used. I got it from somewhere a few years ago and my half brain keeps telling me it was from someone on this forum. If so I would love to give them just notoriety and thanks. Please let me know if any of you know who made the pattern. The patteren says "ssvminiclocknavyflyer1". Have searched for it but nothing.

    I'm a scroller

I think trying everything is kind of a mistake IMHO. I would try a couple of things with simpler projects. If you like them after awhile, then do more. If you do not like them, try something else. Do you want to be Jack of all types or more proficient at one or two. It also depends on what tools you have. Somethings take additional tools or are more expensive to do. My desire is to get better at Intarsia and some types of puzzles.

    Tree of Life

I like Celtic style of ornaments and have made many Celtic knots and crosses. This time I tried to make something different using this style and here is Celtic Tree of Life. Recommended size: 10 x 10 inches, 3 layers 1/8 inch. Pattern at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

    I'm a scroller

I am a woodworker first. I have built cabinets, furniture and even a Maloof rocker. But, father time has caused a change with arthritis and difficult back issues and so I have been changing. It started with the scroll saw and love my Hegner. I have made many puzzles for Grandkids, Christmas ornaments, and Intarsia. All I can do sitting down. Well the shaping and such on Intarsia has led me to power carving and more detailed Intarsia. I have made canes, small animals, and dinosaurs. Again, all, I can do sitting down. I have modified my shop to let me sit and do this as well as great dust collection as I work. I tried wood burning but the smoke even with fans and dust collection was too much. This all has been an evolution over time to meet my physical and mental needs. I just love making things from wood no matter how I do it.

    I'm a scroller

I am a scroller mainly but I am also a woodburner. My husband on the other hand is a woodworker. I can show him a picture or describe what I want and he can create it. He amazes me with his self taught ability. This is why I make sure he has all the tools he needs. However when it comes to scrolling he hands it off to me. We make a good team. Plus any repairs needed around the house he does. If he is not sure he will go to You Tube and find a video to show him what he needs to know. I am very blessed.

    Bass Puzzle

The Bass Puzzle is finished. The pattern by Harvey Blyer. I enlarged the pattern to fit 3/4" Poplar 8" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades and #5 MGT blades for the veining. Sanded with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac, and again a light sanding. Comments welcome.

Just had a min to try it thinking this would be quick and pleasant. But, this is going to take some time. I never got past the first sight that I visited. Got wrapped up in trying to see everything at once. I am pleased with what has been done to the directory since the new guy took over. Heck I was pleased with the old guy too! I am not a computer wiz so this is going to take some time and learning effort on my Part but this is well worth the learning effort. To those responsible for the change thank you and a well done! For those who are thinking about trying it out. Have at it and enjoy, just stay out of my way. Thank You all for the good stuff!
