  1. I posted this idea and it's progress in the Laser / CNC group here on the village but since there is only 15 members and also since I did use the scroll saw I figured it was okay to post here too.. This project started with rough cut walnut lumber and cutting / planing / jointing it down to do a glue up of a final size of 24W x 15H x 3/4.. Once glued and sanded I put 2-3 coats of Shellac and then sanded it down to 400 grit. I then covered the entire face with Oramask ( similar to shelf liner but way better ) I then used the CNC Router to carve out the text. After the carve I sealed the carved out portion with 3 coats of Lacquer and then hand painted the text with white acrylic paint and then peel off the oramask. Next I scroll saw the grill / utensils from 1/8" Maple and glued that onto the sign with weldbond glue. Next I laser engrave the Red Stag bottle on the laser from 1/8 BBply and straight off the laser top coated the engrave before anything smudges. Then I cut the bottle shape out on the scroll saw and also glue it to the sign. Once all was in place and dry I top coat with 3 coats of Lacquer.. I like these projects where I can incorporate each tool.. I hope to be doing many more projects like this. If you go the the "groups" section and find the CNC/Laser groups and join you can see the progress of this from the original carve design model through to the finished project.

  5. Okay, I almost wasn't going to post this since it is just a scrolled heart, nothing fancy but tricky inlaying it in there. I did inlay a few on cutting boards (with the help of you folks) and now I tried it on a box. Nothing fantastic like all the wonderful scroll work that everyone puts on here, but its a start for me. This is now my second box I have ever made. I kind of like boxes. But hope to move on to other scrolling adventures and move from hearts . The wood is Spalted Hackberry and walnut. I had a challenge with the mortise lock but it does work and actually I need help putting hinges on and keeping them level for the next time I make another box...they are a bit wonky but at least they do work.

  6. Howdy folks! I'm Tj and I live in Fort Smith Arkansas. I've been scrolling for 38 years and doing intarsia for the last 16. I'm pretty much self-taught on the fretwork and I learned to do intarsia from Judy Gale Roberts.

  12. Some really nice clocks posted. I really like the Dragon designs whose patterns are they? I have just finished two more clocks as a test cutter for SSWWC magazine (no pictures yet). It was a bit of an eye opener seeing the prices on the larger inserts. 4-1/2" I have made many clocks, three of them actual gear clocks. My first one was just after joining our local club it is about 10" tall. The rest have all been cuts for the magazine. I have only kept 3 of them , the first and the Flying pendulum and electromagnetic one.

  17. I made 2 of the P51 airplane clocks, one for my WW2 veteran dad for Father's Day several years ago, and one for my son when he graduated for aviation mechanics school. The pig clock was given to a farmer friend.

  19. I was going to suggest that @kmmcrafts Kevin just post a link to his Etsy page since he is the King of the Clocks (and ornaments) i believe I have made one clock since I started scrolling. Clearly not competing with Kevin. Was not even sure I had ever taken a picture of it, but looks like I did. I made it for a friend's daughter who graduated from law school. It is a Dirk Boelman pattern. It can be found here: https://theartfactory.com/product/scales-of-justice/ Edited to Add: Oops - looks like I made two I think I gave this one to my niece or nephew both who play the guitar.

  21. I love the color adding that you do to your projects. I had not thought about the multi species sides the you did it but it looks great. I saw that one and have it on my to do list if the DR ever lets me back in the shop.

  22. I have the Axminster AT535SS bought here in the UK and I'm very happy with it. I think it is basically like the Excalibur but with the Pegas blade clamps. I'm no expert but would certainly recommend it.

Hi Marg, I think what you are looking for is Keeper of the time. It is from the Art Factory by Dirk Boelman.

    Scroll Saw Table top

If I need zero clearance for my blade, I tape an index card to the table. It's not a permanent fix, but it works well for the few times I need it.

    Dragon

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, I do my best with what I can get here in South Africa, and that’s not much, very little choice of blades, Danish Oil is out of stock etc. so I make do with what I got, modified my scroll saw beyond the manufactures wildest dreams, it’s vibrationless due to the design of the stand by a mechanical and civil engineer, and it runs so smoothly. Yes I can not do big cuts, yes it’s a 16” fixed arm, but I can assure you I can move from hole to hole faster than raised arm machines only because I applied my mind, and you know what our Lord God did the rest he blessed me with Wisdom and Knowledge, I so Blessed.

  35. The wall hanging pendulum clock and the Flying pendulum clock were originally designed by Brian Law. The magnetic drive clock was designed by Alfred Mifsud in Malta. I modified how it was made to simplify the assembly. There are 6 clocks and a gear machine in this book. The pendulum clock was the first gear drive one I ever made.

  39. Being on the farm, if there was nothing to do, we had to pull or chop weeds. Once in a great while if there was nothing to do would ask dad if there was anything that needed to be done. If there was nothing, he would tell us to pick fly s**t out of pepper. At first, that was a hard job to do, till we found out that was his way of telling us we could have some fun.

  41. Clocks theme huh? Since I have made over 250 clocks which ones do I choose? Desk clocks are my favorite so I only put in one wall clock.. I have more of those too.. Hope someone here likes cars since the desk clocks is a bunch of cars. LOL Gotta say it was hard to choose which ones to post up.. I tried to do some Fords ( not a Ford person myself ) and Chevy's and now I see I left out Dodge.. which is one of my favorites.. what the heck.. Also left out a bunch of the imports.. oh well can't post them all.. but if you have a request to see something I probably have it if it has wheels.. Then I left out the entire sports line like hunting, golfing, running etc.. Oops, I forgot all the dog breeds... I gotta post one of those.. some make them as puzzles.. I make them as clocks... so see last photo Did I mention I've made over 250 clocks?

  44. I made this one a couple of years ago. I bought the pattern and planned on making for my Mom for Mother's Day 2017. I didn't get around to making it for her so I thought that I would make it for her for Mother's Day 2018... I lost her a couple of weeks before Mother's Day. Shortly after she passed away I made it. It now sits in my entertainment center. The base is Leopard wood and the top part is Walnut.
