  1. I am usually very unhappy when I attempt to cororize any of my cuttings but here are a few that I attempted anyway. Some day soon I hope to make more effort to 'get it right'.

  4. Don't know much about these old saws but seen this and thought it'd be neat to have something like it. If I had the space I'd probably buy it. Think this is the same seller that has been had this listed on and off for a couple years.. Price don't seem bad, but I don't know. https://saginaw.craigslist.org/tls/d/midland-foot-treadle-scroll-saw/7603086178.html

  5. There is another video of this showing more on building the tiny parts. It is rather lengthy, I didn't sit through it all but it makes this even more amazing. Those working pistons are tiny and as are the gears. The young mans voice sounds just like the voice of the guy that has the woodgears.ca site. wonder if their brains are related.

  6. Kevin, you’re right they are a lot of fun. I managed to find one a few years ago that was complete and in running condition. I take it to our county fair to demonstrate scrolling in a building dedicated to crafts from the 1800s. Really gets some interest, especially from the kids, trying to figure it out. Along with a couple of educational posters about the history of scrolling and this particular saw I cut out some simple puzzles to show the saw working and then give them to the kids that show an interest. Mine is a New Rogers also made by Millers Falls.

Pattern by Larry Hamm. I think its in the pattern library here. I have not seen his name here for as long as I can remember (not that that means anything) Anyone have any info on Larry? Still a member here?

  9. This is true, but the hardest thing to get used to for me was mentally disconnecting what my feet were doing from what my hands were doing. With a modern saw you only have to pay attention to what your hands are doing. With a treadle you need to keep a steady rhythm with your feet regardless of how your hands are moving. Still enjoyable

  10. I just went to find the one you mentioned Paul and found this one also. Give it a watch. This guy has waaaay to much patience. I could never undertake anything like this and complete it. Enjoy.

  21. This project has taken me along time almost a year. Yea I lost interest for awhile. It is almost working. I have a few tunings to do. It is almost is done. I need to get an empty wine bottle instead of a soda bottle. I need to change out the white kite string. The design is called "Merlot" from Derek Hugger. Since the wine name I stayed with that theme and hand painted grape vines on the lever arms. The backing is wine slats from winery. The Purple and yellow are stained. All wood is baltic birch plywood. Except the backer slats. I wanted to try a kinetic sculpture but did not want a clock. These plans are easy to follow. But the assembly and tuning is always tweaking stuff. Ballancing by adding weights. This is huge 44 inches wide. I don't have a band saw so it was all cut with scroll saw.

  24. I have not messed around too much with colors other than backers for portraits. This one here is flowers for spring time maybe? LOL.. The only other thing I do with colors is done on the laser so this one is all I got other than black backers.. Backer on this is just foam sheets

    Hitachi Scroll Saw

I looked them over back around 2008 before buying the DeWalt.. If I remember correctly you had to open up the bottom side panel to access the lower blade. Believe it was a hinged door type deal but still would be annoying to do blade changes, thought I'd likely just remove that door.. Maybe thinking of a different saw but I looked at a lot of low - mid level saws back then and am glad I went with the DeWalt. IF I were in the market for used saws knowing what I know about most brands I'd probably only consider a DeWalt and the EX,King, newer Jets styled like the EX, and Pegas like saws... and obviously the Hawk and Hegner... Hawk would have to be a Ultra or newer and the Hegner would have to have the front tension lever and quick clamp.. though the quick clamp is a fairly easy and somewhat reasonable priced add-on.. front tension lever is a easy add-on too I think but not necessarily cheap unless your getting a heck of a deal on the saw. Since the whole upper arm has to be replaced I think.

  28. Bill, I'm a raw novice. It takes me forever to get the blade in that lower clamp correctly. Maybe I just need practice.
    1 point
  29. What problems are you having with the lower clamp? I don't have the Pegas clamps on my saw, but my understanding is that they employ a thumbscrew against setscrew style that is very similar to standard Dewalt clamps. The biggest difference is the Pegas clamp bodies themselves are made from machined aluminum, rather than the cast aluminum bodies original to the Dewalt. If I'm wrong about this, hopefully someone with the Pegas clamps will set me straight.

  30. Thanks Bob, I'll take a look at this saw also. Still have not made a purchase yet but probably will in the next month. Also where did you purchase your Wen saw from?

  31. If there are no problems, don't fix it. With that said, as a Pegas dealer, it is a great aftermarket addon. The biggest reason is 40% lighter, so less vibration. I have stock available,

  32. I had one for a while. It was not a bad saw, but it had issues. #1 was needing a 3mm hex for blade changes. I upgraded to a DW788 and now drive a Pegas 21". Don't remember what I did with the CW40.

  39. I'm using a Delta 20" 40-694. When my clamps started to slip, I got the Pegas clamps and they work well. My saw vibrates less now. I got them through Denny at artcraftersscrollsaw@gmail.com.
    1 point
  40. Which Delta do you have? I'm running the 20" 40-694 and have had no issues with the clamps. Just wondering if I need to be concerned about them in the future and if the Pegus ones will fit my machine. Thanks.

  43. T-Rex tray puzzle. This is my first attempt at a tray puzzle. I decided to make it a tray puzzle after cutting the dinosaur. I wanted to glue the gap closed, but it was too tight when I dry-clamped it to test. The back is a piece of hardboard cut, oversized, glued on, then sanded flush with a belt sander. The tray is finished with shellac.

If you do much angle cutting I'd definitely look at the King over the DeWalt.. The ability to adjust the blade cut aggression is also a nice feature on the King. I had a DeWalt and also have a Excalibur ( basic same saw as the King ). I liked the large table of the Dewalt, if you use the factory style stands.. I also like the Dewalt better.. but as I said if angle cutting then i'd go with King.. Both awesome saws really..
