  1. I have 4 new great grands that are all turning 3 years old within 3 months of each other. the one I made these dinosaurs for are big into Spiderman and dinos. I found this pattern on Steve Good's sight and thought that he would enjoy this one for his room. I know he is only going to be three but I also know how much he enjoyed the Spiderman I cut for him on Christmas. So I am quite sure he will enjoy this one also. I hope to find time to make him some kind of toy to play with also. Dick heppnerguy

    # 9

This years' addition to my Norman Rockwell baseball themed puzzles. Number nine in the collection. It is a essentially a tray puzzle (hence no locks connecting the pieces) cut along the color lines of the picture. Overall 8"x10", puzzle approx 6" square, 55 pcs. If you are interested you can see the others (except for last years' - haven't gotten that one uploaded yet) here: https://heirloomwoods.wordpress.com/album-2/cards-and-puzzles/norman-rockwell/

  6. I do not know if the quality has gone down or not as anecdotal comments are not always correct. However, considering that someone has had trouble with another brand and just bought a new DeWalt to get something better, the comments seem like a downer for him. I am happy he got something that is better and wish him well.

Thank you DakOta (Rodney) for the great pattern. She really loved it. I thought she was going to cry when she saw it. I will be cutting out the eagle pattern you made later this month, I have to catch up on somethings before.. Thank you again Mimi

  8. I am sorry if my comment upset anyone. It was not my intention. In the future I will try to be more careful. For the record I truly hope Joe has a great saw that will last him many many years of trouble-free use.

  9. I've already posted this in the "Bragging Rights" forum and didn't think of posting it in this month's challenge. This is my tractor cutting with colors similar to a name brand tractor company. The pattern is one of my own and is posted in the Village library.

    Wax time

I usually wait too long to wax the table. Not this time. So this is just a reminder.

  11. @Moocifer Joe, I want to take a second and add this comment. There seems to be some misunderstanding regarding your recent purchase of a Dewalt saw. If I said anything negative to rain on you parade, I'm deeply sorry. I had a type 1 Dewalt as my first saw and would probably still have it had not a great deal on a used Excalibur come along. You will get many years of use out of that saw as far as I'm concerned. I'm also very sorry that the Wen didn't work out because I had high hopes for its entry into the scroll saw world. We need more saws in that price range. Anyway, if I said anything to make you feel that you made a bad decision, please accept my humble apologies. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW SAW!

  12. I also hope that Joe gets a good experience as I did with the DeWalt I had and that some of the topics I have seen was just that couple lemons that slips past QC. Not only for Joe but any other person that buys a DeWalt saw since they have been proven by many to be a great saw hopefully that trend continues. I would be curious if the new DW says made in china or not, It's just something I read from somewhere.. I honestly don't care where it's made so long as they continue with a quality standard that they are known for.

  13. My new color fill wolf. I made this one from some walnut that me and my best friend milled in 1998. The design for the wolf came from one of Judy Gale Roberts Fine Line Design fretwork books.

  14. Well, from what I've "read" the DW saws had moved production to another facility in China instead of the place in Taiwan where they moved to originally when they switched to the types 2 saws. It may be just another issue of getting the moved ( if this is true ) machines or people / and machines dialed in to make a good product again. The type 2 saw got a bad rap because of issues when the first move happen but they eventually made a great saw once all the bugs got worked out. You still see people say stay away from the type 2 saw.. that switch over happen in the early 2000's I believe. Seems like that is when quality control should be the best for checking machines etc.. making sure the parts are made correctly etc.. But then again, new facility, new people etc.. do they know what it's supposed to be in the first place? LOL

    Wax time

I think all woodworking machines need waxing if for no other reason than to ward off corrosion. On the aluminum, I think it stalls the oxidation that forms on aluminum. As for the Pegas, cars come painted too but we still wax them.

I do on my EX just plain floor wax, put some on with a rag let it dry and buff it. The wood slide right off the saw after. LOL

    Hawk for sale

The blade holder you show are very similar to the ones that were sent to me by one of our previous members here. They were so much easier then the original ones. I recently purchased the Pegas blade holders for my EX and I love them. I really don't notice a difference in the vibration of the saw but I never felt there was a vibration problem in the first place. What I like about the Pegas blade clamps is the fact that they designed the blade tension slots so both the upper and lower slots have no obstructions and it improves clamping and replacing the blades 90 percent, for me. So much easier and faster. I will eventually replace the ones on my other EX saw with them also. They appear to be made of a better material also but not positive about that as I am pretty ignorant about metals. Just my take. Dick heppnerguy

For those that have an EX - do you wax your table? There is a "coating" on it, so I am not sure it needs a wax.

    Having Fan!

Just having "fan". Patterns from The Book of Fans - designs for stained glass by Leslie Sharp. Playing around with segmentation and adding shims for height. The boat is coloured with Unicorn Spit and coated with Osmo satin finish. The tulips are acrylic paint and coated with beeswax butter. Not sure what wood the boat is. Tulips cut from red oak. Both cut with #1 MG blade.

    Hawk for sale

I know the Hawks are one of the better saws on the market, and you are correct about the one I had. I understand that the newer models have some much needed improvements and I would not object or reject one of the newer one to anyone. Mine had the barrel blade fasteners and that too was too much to mess with, in my opinion, how ever I received a homemade and much easier replacement that the person made and sent to me. I am really sorry that I can't remember his name as he was quite prominent in the Village for some time and he passed away about a year ago. when i received the new adapters from him I immediately sent hime a large box of exotic wood as a thank you. Just fill you in on my thinking on the saw. Dick heppnerguy

  33. Had a friend request a couple of verses. After some back and forth, I decided it would be best to make it a two piece project. Cut from 1/2" Red Oak. The top one is 8 X 14 inches and the lower one is 5 x 14. My design using Inkscape.

    Word in a word sign

Don graciously made this pattern for me, thanks Don. I used to work with a guy over 25 years ago that just turned 80 years old. I haven't seen him or his family for at least 10 years. I actually taught his oldest daughter how to drive. I was given an invite to his surprise birthday party that she was giving him. Don made this pattern and it's a good thing that I made it the next day,, I was off by a week on the date of the party. I didn't have time to do anything fancy with it. I was planning on using BB Ply but found a piece of Cedar. I had thought that it would be a little nicer than the ply, but it didn't have much grain. 1/4" Cedar, used a FD UR1 and a few coats of lacquer.

  37. I’ve done several I’ve shared more recently that I had cut on the. Saw, then carved, and painted so I didn’t want to show those again. So I decided to go back to some older ones I did where I used different woods to add “colors.” ”.
