  1. Four Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments finished this weekend. The patterns are by the late Diane Thompson. The birdhouses are Basswood and Ash. The little birds are Purpleheart. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #6 Super Skip blades. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac and sanded again. Comments Welcome.

    A different clock

Hi I see a picture of this ages ago. Finallly got round to having a go at making one. Not much scroll saw apart from cutting the circle. Thought you all might like it though. Just waiting for clock mech to arrive.

    New Pegas Scroll Saw

I bought this one owner never used Pegas Scroll saw Friday. The seller said he bought it for his wife to use, and she never got around to it. It cost me $700 and a 12-hour drive to get it. Patience paid off. My old RBI is moving out.

  4. As you can see, lots of different blades recommendations by different people. Try and see what you like. Foe years I used FD from Mike. Now that I sell Pegas, I use mostly Pegas. My go to blades are the MGT, but it depends on the project. For example, I just posted some Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments and I used Pegas #6 Super Skip blades.

  5. A little different project this weekend. This is a ~30 piece segmentation of an Eastern Bluebird. Each piece has at least 3 different colors all done with a rattle can. This is the loose dry-fit stage as I have a 12x12 live edge backer coming in tomorrow so I can glue it up. I am just deciding if I want to put the scripture on the front (via Laser), or on the back near my logo. Plenty of room on either side. This is the scripture I selected: Psalms 104:12 - By them, the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches.

  6. Really depends on what my project is as to what brand and blade I'm using.. I use 4 different brands... Flying Dutchman, Olsen, Pegas, and P.S. Woods Super Sharps. Majority of work is with Pegas followed by Flying Dutchman.. Other two brands are rarely used but I do have those certain projects that I will use the others.. If I had only one brand choice Pegas would be the winner hands down..

  7. I tried both FD and Pegas and decided that Pegas is my go-to blade. The FD for me was not easy to control.

  8. Great score! I love that stand with the wheels. I need to get something like that for my Excalibur. All my other tables and my tool chest are on wheels. Though my setup is already efficient, I can do most work seated and just spin to 3 different workstations... Scroll saw, spin to drill (doubles as barrel sander), and my glue-up/carving station. I work in my garage and share space with my Mustang Convertible but have plenty of storage and another small workbench on the other side.

  9. You will find that the majority will recommend Pegas which can be purchased right on this site from Denny aka https://www.artcraftersonline.com/ Flying Dutchman are also very good and you can get them at https://mikesworkshop.com/

  12. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video, we make this amazing little Sailboat Diorama! This Steve Good design uses 1/4 inch material for everything except the base which can be 1/2 or 3/4 inch material. This Sailboat (or Pirate Ship) would be perfect to make for the beach lover in your life. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  14. I am also in the boat of the Pegas blade group. Mainly #1 MGT blades. They seem sharper and last longer. Also get mine from Denny.

    Blades for scroll saw

I have an Excalibur 21 saw and I do very small fine cut work. I have tried all the blades mentioned here except the Delta Sharps. Now I primarily use the very small blades #1 and 0/2 blades. I find with my saw I need to agree with Ray @OCtoolguy I have the best control with the Pegas and I also feel they last longer (that is of course you don't break them). The Flying Dutchman are good blades, they (small sizes) just seem to flex too much for the fine work that I do.

    Harry Chapin

Some of the saddest lyrics ever written. - "My child arrived just the other day. He came to the world in the usual way. But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay. He learned to walk while I was away." I read that the song, Cat's In The Cradle, is actually from a poem written by his wife. I just watched a documentary on Harry Chapin's life. He was an amazingly selfless guy with a passion to end world hunger. Like so many, he was taken too soon.

    Harry Chapin

I didn't know much about him except that he sang Cat's In The Cradle until recently. If you haven't heard this one, Mr. Tanner, it's worth a listen. Just a powerful, bloom where you're planted message, for me.

  31. I have tried Olsen, Pegas, Niqua, and Flying Dutchman (and probably something else too). I find my go-to blade is the FD Ultra Reverse #5 blade. I have the most control and accuracy over my cuts with it, and the cuts are so smooth, there is no need to sand my cuts. The thing is, get yourself a good variety pack of different blades and blade manufacturers. Bearwoods has a good variety pack of different types and manufacturers. Try each one and you will learn what works FOR YOU. What works for me, might not work for you. Same with others, and the same with different saws. Always try and master what YOU have, and the rest falls into place. The picture below is just part (a quarter?) of what I have on hand.

    Blades for scroll saw

Well, I guess someone has to do it. I'll speak on behalf of Olsen blades. I have tried both Pegas and Flying Dutchman and I know they are both high quality blades preferred by the majority of scrollers in the world. For me however, they just don't work. I find I just cannot maintain control as well using either of those brands compared to using Olsen. I have tried and have a fine selection of both Pegas and Flying Dutchman lying around the shop gathering dust. I'm aware that all this probably says more about me and my ability rather than the blades, but I remain a proud fan of Olsen blades. Jim

    Blades for scroll saw

It is really a tough question because everyone has their own favorites. Another fan of Pegas for most of my work. Like Pete, I get mine from Denny. I have used Flying Dutchman, and they are good blades, but I find the Pegas Modified Geometry are a bit sharper and last a bit longer. I do believe that both Artcarfters and Mikes Work Shop sell a sampler pack. I recommend you try both. Where in NC are you? I am up near the NC/VA border North of Raleigh. I have some of both. Maybe can meet and do a side my side comparison.

I use the Flying Dutchman and Pegas also. To me the Flying dutchmen are a little thicker and stiffer than the pegas. Both good blade, I have never tried Olsen but some here prefer them.

Nice wall of cowboys. They all wear hats. You should make a wooden cowboy hat and hang on the wall. It does not have to be wearable. It could be same size of you portraits.

  47. I haven’t posted in a while. Though I still scroll almost daily, due to needing scheduled cataract surgery on both eyes and excessive pain from arthritis in my wrists and fingers, my productivity has slowed up. This one was really difficult, as the tiny bridge work was hard to do with blurry vision, and even magnifiers have reached the point of being ineffective. Anyway, based on a Charles Dearing pattern, 1/4” Baltic Birch, all cut with Pegas spiral blades, mostly 2/0, about 11”x7,” stained with Danish Oil, mounted on a 1” pine board stained black. Hope you like it.

  48. Tyler, again I am amazed how fast you do you cutting. Takes my much longer, but like you, I usually like the finished project. One thing, maybe a short video how you created the compound cut using Steve's program. I think I have an idea how you did it, but not certain. I always learn something from your explanation. Thank You, Jerry
