    A different clock

Hi I see a picture of this ages ago. Finallly got round to having a go at making one. Not much scroll saw apart from cutting the circle. Thought you all might like it though. Just waiting for clock mech to arrive.

  2. A few months back I asked for suggestions on a new scroll saw. Well after much research I finally bit the bullet and purchased the King Industrial 16" scroll saw. I know many would say the 16" model is to small but it works well in my small shop and fits on the same stand perfectly that I had the old saw on. Wow!! what a difference going from my old Ryobi to this new saw. So much smoother, quieter and a joy to use. Thanks again to everyone for the information and suggestions that you all provided.

  3. Four Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments finished this weekend. The patterns are by the late Diane Thompson. The birdhouses are Basswood and Ash. The little birds are Purpleheart. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #6 Super Skip blades. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac and sanded again. Comments Welcome.

    New Pegas Scroll Saw

My new Pegas saw is up and running. I read the manual and could not find any place where it talked about adjusting the upper arm parallel to the table, as my EX-21 says. I did it anyway, as it was so far off I could see it without measuring. This is the first saw I have ever had that has the guards in place. There was one on the bottom as well as the top. I removed the top guard because it significantly interfered with installing the blade, and I removed the bottom guard because it banged against the table when the saw was rum at high speed. Removing the lower guard required me to remove the table to get to the screws. I replaced the screws in case they were holding something inside. While the top was off, I discovered that the thin plastic part of the dust collection was only attached to one side. I made one from a piece of magnetic sheet that I had. After waxing the bottom of the table and everything I could not get to without removing the table, I reinstalled the top and checked all of the alignments. I did my first cut. I cut some kittens from a 3/4-inch piece of oak. It works great. There is minimal vibration at high speed, and the cuts are smooth. The Grizzly mobile base that came with the saw will have to go. It adds about 10 inches to the width and gets in the way. One of the wheels is where I want my foot switch to go. Only two wheels are casters, making it more challenging to maneuver in tight spaces. In short, the mobile base takes up to much room. I'm thrilled with the new Pegas Scroll Saw.

  5. The original mini bird houses patterns were in Creative Woodworking and Crafts. Issue 156 May 2011 which I have I think there were some more in issue 160 Nov 2011 Steve Good has one in his catalogue too.

  6. A little different project this weekend. This is a ~30 piece segmentation of an Eastern Bluebird. Each piece has at least 3 different colors all done with a rattle can. This is the loose dry-fit stage as I have a 12x12 live edge backer coming in tomorrow so I can glue it up. I am just deciding if I want to put the scripture on the front (via Laser), or on the back near my logo. Plenty of room on either side. This is the scripture I selected: Psalms 104:12 - By them, the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches.

  9. The upper arm is adjusted just like the EX21 with the black knob in the back. You did just as I did by removing the guards including the one under the table. Congrats one the new saw.

  11. Congratulations and enjoy your new saw. If the size fits and works for you and your needs, that is all that matters. If one size fit all, there would not be different sized saws out there.

    Finally made the purchase

I bought the same saw about a year and a half ago and couldn't be happier. I had a Delta P-20 that I bought somewhere about 2003ish, When I wanted something a bit smaller for traveling I looked long and hard at all the top saws out there. I asked a ton of questions here and finally pulled the trigger on the King 16" and like I said I couldn't be happier. You will need to set it up and adjust the motor to take out the vibration, after I did that mine runs smooth without being bolted to the bench. You'll need to fine the sweet spot for speed, but when you do you'll love it. I learned about the set up from the guys here, tone of knowledge here, just ask. I pulled off all the vac stuff under the table, it just got in the way for me. Chris

  18. Very good. I went from porter cable entry level to a used RBI Hawk. Cuts got a lot easier. I don't have to fight the tool. We await your pictures of future projects. Me. Mark Eason.

  19. Congrats Richard! As far as the 16-inch, my WEN is a 16-inch saw and I have cut, in my opinion, some pretty nice pieces using it. I have ordered the 30-inch Pegas and will probably never use that depth of a throat but it will be there if I need it. enjoy your new saw.

  20. Congratulation. If it lives up to it's reputation as being the same as the Excalibur line from Taiwan I am sure you will love it. Steve Good stated the 95% of his patterns will fit the 16 inch and there are always ways around this if you ever have something larger. Good cutting.

  22. Some of her birdhouse and Christmas ornament patterns are in issues of Scroll Saw patterns and works magazine. She also has some pattern books available on Amazon. Her patterns are sometimes challenging (for me, at least).

  23. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video, we make this amazing little Sailboat Diorama! This Steve Good design uses 1/4 inch material for everything except the base which can be 1/2 or 3/4 inch material. This Sailboat (or Pirate Ship) would be perfect to make for the beach lover in your life. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  26. Thurman, I've tried just like you described. Except for using polyurethane instead of lacquer. And, I've tried a buffing pad prior to the poly also. This was on tables though. I think a better grade of resin might be the answer. In the past, I've had good luck with Total Boat and System 3. The last pours were an off brand. Not good.
