    Almost finished

I have almost completed this jigsaw pattern, just a couple of coats of wax still to do. The Eagle is on vertical grain Sapele and the fish is on cross grain, both pieces of wood were 3/4" thick and I used Pegas Modified Geometry #1, #3 and #7. Turned out OK but I know what I need to do next time to make me happier with it.

  3. Summer has always been about being outdoors, enjoying the sights, random encounters with interesting critters, and various activities such as hiking, geocaching, kayaking, archery, etc. Don't have any kayak-related scroll projects yet.

  4. I did this one a while back. When leaving Jasper AB going west there is this very big “lake” not sure if you can call it that it was only about one foot deep ( haven’t been to Jasper for quite a while so not sure if it’s dried up). Anyway we saw a bear walking across the water and it looked like it was walking on water ( the kids called it the Jesus Bear). Even though this picture is a Grizzly walking on ice, it always reminds me of my favorite place on Earth, Jasper.

  5. These would be some of my favourite outdoor projects. I don't have a picture of just the "Welcome to the Lake" sign, but I had one hanging on the boat until this spring when hubby dropped it. Now I need to cut another one. The puzzle is one of the spots we like to get to and anchor at for a couple of days. This is on Lake of the Woods, ON.

  8. June is here. My favorite time of year. I really enjoy getting outside and enjoying the warmer weather. (I'd imagine it's not quite the same in the southern hemisphere, though ). So this month's scroll saw challenge is about the outdoors. Post a project that is related to whatever you think of when you think "outdoors." For me, it's camping, hiking, and enjoying mother nature. For others, it might be backyard BBQs and picnics. Maybe where you are, you're polishing up your skis to play in the snow! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

    My latest epoxy projects

I am still learning about working with epoxy. The Tree of Life is my second attempt. The wood is 1/4" mesquite. Drips & Dragons is a Fiona Kingdon pattern I had cut a year or so ago. I had been trying to figure out how to finish it and this sounded right for it. The wood is 1/4" Monkeypod.

    Almost finished

I think I got the pattern in a book that is in the 'Mens Shed' that I attend. I will check when I am next down there. I am sure there must be a couple of these designs around as I have seen some similar pieces although they may not have been jigsaws and just an eagle and fish in segmentation.

  11. This project was created on a cut-off from another piece of tiger maple with a defect in the left upper corner, A knot with a hole in the center was used to create the moon. The mountain simulation used tracings of the wood grain. Dick

looks like a winner to me. I saw that pattern listed somewhere and I liked it also. I do not remember where it was though. You did a splendid job on this. Thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy

  20. Nice job Dick, even with the photo. I think we tend to forget that these simple patterns can give us a lot of joy when giving them to kids. Your great grandson will get many hours of playing and imagination. Jerry

I have thought of doing that myself, many times....usually when the snow/ice are bad enough that even my dumb self isn't dumb enough to get out and drive.

Nicely cut. I have found in my cold shop that fingerless gloves can help a lot with keeping the hands warm. Mine are just brown jersey gloves that I attacked with a pair of scissors. Tom

    cutting shell

Just an update. My first attempt with a ribbed molusk shell turned out terrible. Where the shell was ribbed thick, it was prone to chip. Where it was ribbed thin it sort of went ok. I attempted a piece of oyster shell, but it was far too brittle and flakey and disintegrated along the cut. Gonna try a piece of plain Quahog clam shell next.
