    Cross for my wife

I saw this cross posted on Etsy and saved a photo of it to my pictures about 3 or 4 months ago. I finally found the time to make it and I could not find the piece again to see about buying the pattern so I just made a pattern from it. The one I saw was made with different colors of wood inset that was so beautiful but as I got into it I began to realize it was going to be more than I was willing to try so just cut out the skeleton pattern I had made and call it good. I thought it was so pretty the was it was in the photo I downloaded but since I turned away from what I really intended to do, I found I still liked it the way it turned out. I just hope when my wife returns home the middle of July, she too will like it. Dick heppnerguy

  2. Made myself a stand for my scrollsaw so I can cut outside. It is on castors (2 that can lock) so easy to move around and also I made a 10 degrees incline so it is nice and comfy to use, added a drawer for my blades and what not, so it is real nice to just open the garage door and enjoy the nice weather

  3. looks great Pete! I have done the same thing with many of my tools such as the planner, table saw, bandsaws, lathe and scroll saw. Just wheel them outside on the deck and use and then back inside the shop when finished with all the mess staying outside. You did a great job!

    Bookshelf piece

Commissioned for the birthday of a friend who has taught at the same university for 40+ years. It is the formal logo of the university and is only the fourth I have cut. This one is approximately 7.5 x 9 inches of 3/4" cherry from Ocooch. Base is two pieces of 3/4" buckeye from another project. Cut this with Pegas #3MGT blades and finished with satin lacquer. As a bonus, I glued the final blade to the bottom of the base.

    Almost finished

I have almost completed this jigsaw pattern, just a couple of coats of wax still to do. The Eagle is on vertical grain Sapele and the fish is on cross grain, both pieces of wood were 3/4" thick and I used Pegas Modified Geometry #1, #3 and #7. Turned out OK but I know what I need to do next time to make me happier with it.

  8. I did something similar. I can easily roll either of my Excaliburs outdoors and they both have their own onboard dust control systems. When inside the shop they hook up to a Fein vac. I do like the idea of a 10 degree tilt. I hinged the tops of the stands to enable that but have never done it. Don't ask why. Just haven't.

  9. Nice, Pete. Unlike the others, I'm tall enough that the width wouldn't be a problem for me. My legs are long enough to straddle the stand.

    Birthday Ornament

Just finished this Birthday ornament for a good friend of mine. I want to thank Don for doing this pattern so quick for me. We had a couple of problems with it. I had spelled the name wrong but Don was able to fix it for me. It measured around 5 inches in diameter and made out of walnut. I used a #3 UR blade for it. Thanks again Don.

    Round Picture Frames

Where can I buy small round picture frames to insert in a hole?

  12. A better idea than the sanding of the tips is just to replace the inserts whenever a blade STARTS slipping. Way better fix and the tips are really inexpensive and you do not need to start sanding the tips to get a better hold. The clamp instantly become as good as new, if they have not been reaped on too much. Dick heppnerguy

    Bookshelf piece

Very creative. This will be a treasured piece for the receiver of it. Not only because you made it for him but also because for you and him, it carries a lot of sentimental value too. Dick heppnerguy

Sharon is away in Oregon until the middle of July. I guess I will just cut another and when she gets home again, I will let her pick the colors she likes. Dick heppnerguy

    Cross for my wife

Wow, I love the lilac color...sooo pretty but I love that color and you did such a nice job when cutting it. Hmmm, guess you will have to see what colors she likes....My husband always looks at my clothes in my closet to figure out what colors I like (most of the time - except when picking out the color to paint our front door!)

  24. Pete, Wow! I really like that....Richard has a point about the knees, but I guess I wouldn't have a problem with that. I do love your drawer. Hmmm, I might need to make something like that....Love the EX, too? Is it an EX 21?

  25. Very cool, though I would worry about my knees as I get pretty up close and personal to my saw.

  31. Just a quick segmentation project I am working on this weekend. I just did the first coat of paint. Need to sand, glue it up and add the gloss finish. Thought it looked pretty good in the loose dry fit stage. But this speaks outdoors to me. looking at a single flow brings me such joy seeing the handiwork in creation.

    Dewalt 788

It was years ago and it went with a custom stand and dust control. And at the time there were no deals in effect. It had been tuned and maintained. She got a good saw.

  35. I did this one a while back. When leaving Jasper AB going west there is this very big “lake” not sure if you can call it that it was only about one foot deep ( haven’t been to Jasper for quite a while so not sure if it’s dried up). Anyway we saw a bear walking across the water and it looked like it was walking on water ( the kids called it the Jesus Bear). Even though this picture is a Grizzly walking on ice, it always reminds me of my favorite place on Earth, Jasper.

  36. Bill, I've got two Excalibur saws. Both green machines that both came with the crappy mechanisms that Excalibur had. I hated them. The changeover to Pegas clamps solved all my hangups. They are easier to use and stay in adjustment far better. And, the way the Pegas clamp bodies are made, using a high grade aluminum, will keep them from ever spreading like the Dewalt/Delta clamps eventually do. So, with that said, it's just a matter of keeping the clamp screw tips clean and flat. So far, after a couple of years usage, I've only dressed one set of clamp screws using a fine sand paper and a flat surface. The only complaint I have is the price and I figure that the import duty/tariff is responsible for a lot of that. Not sure but thinking so.

  37. My De Walt's clamps still work OK but, when they start slipping, I have a couple Pegus clamps waiting.

  38. That's a great tip about "painting" the back of a piece in an area of perceived fragility with thinned epoxy in advance of cutting it.

    Fiona Kingdon WIP

I do the taping it waste in also, helps. Also helps protect the fragile pieces already cut for getting broke by my clumsy fingers while I am moving the piece around.... Another thing I will do, it the piece is real fragile, I will finish the cut then turn the board over and 'reinforce' the thinest areas of that piece with CA glue to give it more strength.. A couple times when I was going to cut something I knew was going to real fragile,,, before I even started drilling holes, I 'painted' the back side with thinned epoxy, to give more strength..

    Picking

I use a light spray of clear shellac, then lightly sand the surface, and haven't noticed this problem a couple of extra steps bt it pays off in the end.

    CA Glue

Now some of you may remember my run in with CA glue, so it's not my favourite and to be honest I'm a little scared of the stuff. However, at times it is very useful. I use the tiny bottles pictured below but find that the teeny nozzle gets clogged up with dry glue quite badly and I'm never going to take the top off completely ever again so I'm asking to see if anyone knows how to prevent this. I've tried poking it with a saw blade but even that doesn't seem to work very well plus I find I have to put the bottle in a small vice in order to hold it still while I poke.

    CA Glue

This was the result of the glue landing on cotton sock after knocking a small bottle over . The reaction was heat and smoke that welded the sock to my foot. Not sure that, even if I had it, acetone would have made a difference .

    CA Glue

the only place that i use this glue is when I tied fishing fly's , now that i am older I buy all my flyes. I put a drop on all the knots , It makes it harder for a fish to tear up a fly. besides that my wife used to bitch about all the feathers. IKE

I always have a bottle of acetone around when using CA. It is a quick solvent and will undo skin stick togethers if necessary
