    Dream catcher

This is cut from 1/4” Cherry with an 1/8” Baltic Birch backer. Both finished with natural Danish oil. It is a Sue Mey design.

    Jellys

Found this on Lightbox Goodman's site (someone posted another project they'd done, so I had to go and browse https://lightboxgoodman.com/collections/trending) and thought it would be a fun cut. I was right, for once. 1/4 bbply for the jelly and the backer, both stained Minwax Honey. Frame is a random 2x2 ripped in half, stained Minwax Provincial. I hit the jelly with a rattlecan of blue and purple, making the blue heavier on the top and purple heavier on the bottom. Thought it turned out pretty darn spiffy.

    Magikarp

My Daughter asked me to make "something out of wood" for her boyfriends birthday. He's a huge pokemon fan, and especially magikarp This is what I came up with. The magikarp is segmentation basswood painted with craft paint. The background is also basswood. I cut it into 2" wide pieces and knocked the corners off with a block plane. Frame is Butternut. Also knocked off the corners with a block plane. Overall dimensions are about 12" square. Chris

    Lover's Tree

Here is the lover's tree all finished. The painting too the longest because the weather is so cold. I spray outdoors and bring it inside to dry in the spare room. Marg

  6. I decided to create a new puzzle for my kids. I wanted it to be a 3D puzzle that is a bit more difficult to do as opposed to traditional 2D projects. And this is what came out in the end. Wooden Tuck 3d puzzle pdf plans.mp4

  7. This is something I have been working on for two years. I would work on it for awhile, get stuck on something and then come back later. It was a combination of a plan and actual drawings of the car. A lot of different tools were used but many cut with my scrollsaw. The fenders were compound cut and then shaped. The difficult part was fitting the fenders to the curved body. The Spoke wheels were a huge challenge and I made many bad ones before figuring it out.L

  9. Hi all !! I have been a woodworker for pretty much my whole life (42 years young), well certainly as soon as I could hold a toy saw anyway. LOL I got into scrollsawing back in the early 2000's when I'd saved enough money to buy myself a craftsman scroll saw. I know that doesn't sound like a huge deal but at the time I was a young father with 2 kids both in diapers. We lived in a rented mobile home and I used the back porch with a tarp wrapped around it as my workshop. If you dropped anything chances are it would roll into a crack between the deck boards and be gone forever. There was no power outlets so I tapped into the outside light fixture with one of those screw in things that give you an outlet. If anyone turned off the switch I was in the dark and my tool stopped. Fastforward many years and I have a full shop. I wore out the craftsman scroll saw years ago and only just recently bought a new saw. I went with the 16" king industrial which seems to be similar to the excalibur, pegas and excellsior -- although I'm still not clear on the differences. Oh, and I also 3d print and designed a better vac attachment for my saw that works pretty well. (I'm sort of proud of it) LOL

  10. I have been itching to cut another Eagle pattern but could not find an image that I liked or that had not been done by others. Since the Bald Eagle is our National Bird and the Emblem of our USA Nation, it is very fitting that it is often shown in various portrayals with the Stars and Stripes, our Grand American Flag. I found this Image of an Eagle that I liked, but it had a distressed Flag in the background that I did not like. I tend to be a purest and find the many images of our American Flag shown distressed or with other colors to be, IMHO to some degree, unpatriotic. I feel Our American flag should be treated with all the respect it deserves. So, I went searching for a more, again IMHO, standard Image of our Flag. As you are probably aware, there are a vast number of free images available. I found an Image of a waving flag that was more suited to being converted to a scroll saw pattern. I combined the Image of the Eagle (minus the distressed flag) I liked with the version of the Waving American Flag. My problem was that the Eagle was a “positive” image and the Flag a “negative” image. I solved this problem by cutting two separate cut Panels. One of the Eagle and one of the American Flag, with the area that is hidden by the superimposed eagle removed. The Eagle was cut out of a 1/4” x10” x 12” solid core Walnut panel and the Flag was cut in a 5/32” x 14” x 12” solid core Maple panel. The backer (third layer) was 1/4” x 14” x 12” BB Ply. The positive Eagle cutting was quite fragile, so I darkened it by dipping it Minwax Dark Walnut Stain. The stain was lightly/gently wiped off, hung up and allowed to dry for over three days. I used my Air Brush to paint the Backer and Flag Cut Panel, the flag “Red, White, and Blue” colors. In lieu of using Acrylic Gesso under the colors, I sealed all the surfaces to be painted with clear Acrylic Sealer. The Eagle panel was cut with Pegas #0 and #2/0 spiral blades while the Flag panel was cut with Pegas #1 MGT R blades. After the stain was dry and painting completed, the panel was assembled in two steps. The Backer and Flag cut panel glued up first and then the Eagle cutting was glued to the surface of the Flag cut panel. Thus, three layers. You can see this in the second Photo below. The assembled panel was then finished with multiple coats of the Clear Gloss Acrylic For this unique piece, I custom made a gallery style Floating Frame using nominal 3/4” Maple hardwood with a thin nominal 1/8” gap around the panel. To match the Maple Cut Panel the Maple frame was left natural and finished with the same Clear Gloss Acrylic Protective Finish. You can all salute now. Comments and Critques always welcome.

  14. No need to ovethink this issue. Just use less adhesive to attach the pattern to the wood. I barely use any super 77. just a super light spray. Takes a while to figure it out but once you do this problem will no longer be an issue. I just follow the directions on the can for a temporary bond.

  21. Well, for my 2 cents. Since I've started using shelf liner on the wood prior to gluing the pattern, I've never had a problem with removing the pattern. I try to make sure that the wood is as clean and dust free as I can get it. Put on the shelf liner, I use and old credit card to make sure there is a good bond then glue the pattern to the shelf liner. I do watch how I remove the shelf liner, especially form ply, making sure I pull toward thin spots, not away and pull very slow on the thin areas. Chris

  24. Oooo I love this so much!! I love how you took great care to find the perfect flag for the project. Our flag deserves so much more respect than it is getting these days. It just peeves me off. This piece is very inspiring and now I want to do something patriotic!! I just love it!

  25. I have a heat gun (a hair dryer with higher heat level) I use to separate the pattern. My patterns are affixed to the wood with Walmart shelf paper and rolled with a wallpaper roller to get maximum adhesion. Applying heat works well and reduces the stress on delicate drop-outs. This is the one I use - it has 2 heat levels. https://www.amazon.com/Hangar-9-HAN100-Heat-Gun/dp/B0006N6XZW/ref=sr_1_2?crid=23BGNNKZ3M9YL&keywords=monokote+heat+gun&qid=1687267924&sprefix=monokote+heat+gun%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-2

  26. I scored a piece that I think might have been a table in a previous life. It was amongst some cypress lumber listed on Facebook marketplace that I picked up an hour or so from home in South Louisiana. I thought that since the cypress was recovered from an old home on the bayou that pelicans were in order. So here it is.

    The Three Amigos

The knee from the knee replacement has been doing better and the swelling form the blood clot is not as bad. This allowed me to get into the shop a little the past couple days and let me to finish my latest project. The piece is cut on 1/4-inch Birch and stained with Ipswich Minwax while the backer is Birch sprayed with black. The black is a single coat because I wanted to show the grain pattern even though it is covered by the paint. The frame is pine cut down from a 1X8 and then cut to fit. The piece and frame were sprayed with 4-coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding with 320 grit sandpaper between coats. This piece is the "Three Amigos" together after doing each individually. I've believe I posted a picture of the individual pieces already so I'm posting a group photo now. The wife will rearrange the three individuals around the Three Amigos piece. These were fun cuts and it's also nice knowing that I also did the patterns. By the way, in the Three Amigos piece, they are Oreo, Hershey and Kiss. Guess you could say we have some SWEET PUPPIES!

    Wedding Gift

Not sure where this should be posted, sorry if I put it in the wrong place. I just finished this 3 layer wedding gift for a very special customer. It is a great Sue Mey pattern that I made some modifications to, I put the cross on a base and personalized it for the bride and groom. The face piece is Sugar Maple and the back piece is Purple Heart, the styalized arms for the cross are Cherry. I put it on a base of Sapele and the names were cut from Cherry. Thanks Sue, for a great pattern. Thanks for looking. Rick

  31. Today is our 55th Wedding Anniversary. I didn't have a chance to get a card so when Steve Good showed his "DAD" gnome yesterday I modified to Love you and used the back for the message. A reduced in size and had to make a few modifications on the go as the hands covered the e completely. All done in less than a day.

    Cross for my wife

Wow, I love the lilac color...sooo pretty but I love that color and you did such a nice job when cutting it. Hmmm, guess you will have to see what colors she likes....My husband always looks at my clothes in my closet to figure out what colors I like (most of the time - except when picking out the color to paint our front door!)
