I was trying to determine where to put this but then I thought, yeah, I'm darn proud of this and yes, I think it's something worthy of bragging rights. After 6-months it finally arrived. Denny at artcraftersonline.com gave me a great deal and I tried not to pester him too much as to when it would arrive. He sent me an email late last week saying the ship was in port and this weekend another email came with the tracking numbers. It was delivered today and I anticipated putting everything together tomorrow during the 4th holiday. But..... after I got home from work I couldn't stand it and went out to the shop. The new Pegas 30-inch with stand!!! This thing is a beast yet quiet and smooth as silk. I still have to get use to the blade clamps and I need to check all the settings but after a quick glance I don't think anything is very far from true. Thanks again, Denny!9 points

Been a bit since I have finished a project. SOOOOOOOOO much going on. Garden in full swing, tractors and a backhoe that need fixed, a little camping and fishing. My Mother-in-Law passed away this last week and my wife is just beyond sad. I finally got in the shop yesterday and today and finished the frame and put this together. It is a H.Botas Pattern. The piece is poplar strips glued together and planed down. The frame is some teakwood that is used in pallets of things coming from out of the country. The splines are Dark Walnut from here on the property. The stain is Golden Oak.8 points

After some serious sewing projects for our boat, I finally got some time on the saw! 3/4 plywood of unknown woods. A gift from a friend. Used a #5mg blade. No finish on it yet. Actually, not sure what to use! Thoughts? I don't want to mess up the flexibility. 20230629_151731.mp42 points -

My journey into Intarsia
Charlie E and one other reacted to Dennisfm56 for a topic
This is my journey into doing intarsia. Learning as I go and certainly not using the more exotic woods that are available. Strictly pine and poplar so far using stains or paint for color. The actual order that I have done them is the Whale, Rooster, Goldfish, Butterfly, Apple and finally the Cat. Happy with my progress, but still much to learn.2 points -
A good way to monitor the time on your saw to perform maintenance.2 points

One could plug the power strip to the foot switch and plug the saw, vac, clock, fan, etc into the power strip. Just make sure the power strip has an overload breaker in it. Larry Looks like Ray and I were thinking the same thing at the same time.2 points

Plug everything into a power strip and plug the power strip into your foot switch. When you step on your foot switch it will power the power strip which in turn will power whatever is plugged into it.2 points

Eagle Owl
scrollntole reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
Eagle Owl pattern by Jacob Fowler found in Woodworker's Pattern Book. I used 1/2" Cherry approximately 6" x 10". The base is unknown wood. I used Pegas #1 MGT blades and cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac. Another light sanding with a Mac Mop and then one coat spray Lacquer clear satin. Comments welcome.1 point -
Timer setup
wombatie reacted to James E. Welch for a topic
I can't take credit for the idea, I saw it on YouTube some time ago. I think it was Jim's fix-it shop or something like that. Anyway, I finally set mine up. I know some will find it silly or not at all useful but I think it's neat. It's an analog clock that is attached to my foot switch. When the saw is running the clock is running. I can simply set it to 12 and count how long I've worked on a project. I can take a break, eat a sandwich, take a nap and when I get back and start again the timer goes again. I suppose you could use this to price your work, but for me it's more curiosity. I just want to see how long certain projects take. I found the clock on ebay for $10 so to me it was worth it. I will say that there weren't many analog clocks on ebay when I got this one though so it could be hard to source. It has to be analog because digital would reset every time you killed power to it.1 point -
Vibration?
OCtoolguy reacted to James E. Welch for a topic
Does everyone's saw have a spot in the speed adjustment where vibration is worse? I've gotten almost all the vibration out by bracing and supporting and while it's minimal, there's still a spot right around 3/4 speed that vibrates more than any other speed. Once past this spot it's still again. Through many adjustments I've gotten this spot to as small of a spot as I can and all and all I'm very happy with it. I'm just wondering if everyone has this spot in their speed adjustment. It's almost like it's the perfect harmonics in this one unsweet spot.1 point -
Vibration?
OCtoolguy reacted to James E. Welch for a topic
This is the wording I was looking for. Is that what it is? Might be. It's a small window between 70% and 80% or so. Then it's great again. I just work below or above that speed. Not a big deal at all. Just a peculiar thing that I wondered about. Sometimes it's good to ponder. Lol1 point -

I swear I am going so slow I think my mind is actually moving the wood. Maybe people who are good are really Jedi.1 point -
Even on my Hegner, there are sweet spots and there are not so sweet spots... I found that on all the scroll saw I have own, except the Craftsman it did not have any "sweet spots". That puppy was all "Not so sweet spots", but I got scrolling done on it. I have not bolted my Hegner stand to the floor, I have the bolts, may do it one day, probably the day before we move...1 point

Vibration?
James E. Welch reacted to OCtoolguy for a topic
I think we can all agree that every scroll saw has some vibration. It's just the nature of the beast. Both of my Ex's are very smooth running saws but they each have a spot that is not good to use. I have never run any of my saws wide open because to me, it's just not comfortable. I am usually just under 3/4.1 point -
Vibration?
OCtoolguy reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
I have a newer 21" Excalibur, and it is the same thing at about 80% or so. But I find there are one or two "chattering" spots in the speed. Harmonics might be the reason. I usually find I like working at lower speeds so it is not an issue with me. Before I got my Pegas chuck, I would get slight vibration at around 60-70%, above that it is annoying at different spots.1 point -
Here is what I did back in '21. I was wanting to know how long pieces took to cut. Real saw cutting time. After a lot of research I found what I wanted from Grainger. I ordered it a few days ago and it came today and it is now installed on my Pegas saw. It is an L6 series LCD Resetable Hour meter By ENM of Chicago that reads hours and minutes. Yes it is a litlle bit pricey at $71.42 + S&T, but I wanted the simple push button reset. Cheaper models did not have a reset capability which would be fine if you just wanted to know how long the machine was operated for maintenance purposes. After cutting a hole in the side of the Pegas (just needed to take out a piece between two of the existing oval holes) I mounted the provided plastic frame that the meter slips in to. After which I simply cut the black and white wires in the plug wire, stripped them back a short didtance, twisted them together and inserted the black into pin # 1 and the white into Pin #3, tightening down the screws to hold them in place. I reniforced the plug wire behind the meterwith some electrical tape and slipped the unit into the mounted frame. A quick test run produced a one minute indidation to show on the meter. With a push of the button on the front it returned to 0-00. Here are pics: Yes, I did gouge the adjacent metal with the cut off grinder...me bad. This set up only shows saw run time. Actual saw sit time can be once or more as much, depending on number of holes. Threading time is often more that sawing time. I'm adding this comment today. My setup has bee working fine, but I just do not think about reseting it at the beginning of each new project. When I do look it will have quite a few hours recorded. It is interesting to see the cutting time, but I think I need to add a second timer to record just how long I sit at the saw on a given project.1 point

Simple project, most satisfaction
Charlie E reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
Sometimes, it's the simplest of scroll saw projects that bring the most satisfaction. My first (and only) grandson, Liam, playing with the rattle I made for him. What's cool is the clothing was given as a gift from a Turkish officer I work with at NATO. He's about to become a first-time father, and not only did I make a puzzle and a car for his soon-to-be baby, but a near identical rattle just like this.1 point -

Well, ya gotta start somewhere, and with limited funds, get what you can and see what you can do. Last year I bought an old craftsman bandsaw at a yard sale for $75. Turned out to be really old, as in no replacement parts were available. It was a 1/3 Hp and did so-so cutting small pieces of wood. So later in the year, I sold it for $50 at one of our yard sales and consoled myself with a $25 lesson. So if you do go the used route, see if replacement parts are still available. Fast forward to now - I did some construction /remodeling/ house flipping work for a couple of friends and used the money I made to buy a new bandsaw. And am pleased with it. There is an saying on the forum I've seen and subscribe to: "Buy once . . . cry once". So, in my opinion, if you're hot to get a bandsaw, then go for it and see where it takes you. Regardless of how it plays out, you will learn a lot. Good luck with it. Oh, and a good blade does make a lot of difference in cutting and the quality of the cut.1 point

I started out with a small 9 or 10" ? Ryobi bandsaw that I picked up at a garage sale real cheap. Thought it was a pile of junk until I actually bought a quality blade.. I put a small wood slicer blade on and used it to resaw some 4" wide by 3/4 thick boards down to thin 1/4" to make ornaments with. It was a lot better saw than I was expecting it to be.. A quality blade will make any saw that much nicer, LOL1 point

I'm glad passing on the idea helped someone. I'm with everyone else, plug everything into a power strip that's connected to your foot switch. The clock is going to be pulling very little amperage. You should be fine.1 point -

I hope my granddaughter doesn't see this as she is big on horses and has been her whole life. Now her 3 year old has her own horse and even does some round pen training herself. Very nice pattern and cutting. You are so good at pattern making and I...well I keep telling myself I will take the time to learn to do pattern making too. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

My journey into Intarsia
Dennisfm56 reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
Now going back and cutting some intarsia projects, It bring back the memories of failure I experienced mant times. I would have my cuts with perfect joints until I glued them. Then the frustrations hit. I made a couple of intarsia project last week and had the same problem. I never seemed to really understand what it was that was causing my problems but I still have them. Not ever time but enough to keep my from diving into too many more. Now I can chalk it up to old age, as i am 83. You and I both know it really is just pour workmanship on my part..don't tell anyone else that about me. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

The wife has been visiting family in PA and I was fortunate enough to stay home and take care of the fur babies. It also allowed me time to finish some projects I kept putting off. The old car is a pattern by Grampa. I cut two and placed the "face" side of the wood together when I stacked to see if that would help with reducing the delamination issues.... it didn't! They are cut on 1/4-inch Birch. After using watercolor to paint the painted piece I used Minwax Ipswich stain and found that does the best covering up the delamination. The backers are black painted Pine. The frames are pre-finished framing material cut to fit. The deer scene is a Steve Good pattern, Both are 1/4-inch Birch, one painted and the other Minwax Ipswich. A black Pine backer which has a painted cardboard bird and moon painting glued over the cut-outs in the backer. The last was a request for Mother's Day for someone that never returned to pick it up. It is a Steve Good pattern cut on 1/4-inch Maple ply stained with Minwax Espresso. The Lauan backer is 1/4-inch and stained with Minwax Natural. I've got a couple projects in the making, one I've already started and another I'm waiting on the new saw to arrive to start that one. Both1 point

I routinely cut small pieces on a 12-inch miter saw. If you clamp it correctly, it isn't difficult or dangerous. If you want to know how, watch this.1 point

I use one of these to hold the piece while cutting it on my table saw, band saw, or router table, or even a scroll saw, but I added strips of sticky backed 80 grit sandpaper to the surfaces that grip the part for a better and safer grip. Actually, this isn't exactly the one that I have. Mine is yellow and has an aluminum guard along one side that can be angled to ride against a fence. I can cut very small pieces with this, without putting my fingers in harms way. https://www.amazon.com/Holder-Router-Tables-Safely-Smaller/dp/B06ZYNNFVW/ref=sr_1_42?crid=1KYUUUBKM7X9Q&keywords=small+part+cutting+jig&qid=1687835367&sprefix=small+part+cutting+jig%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-42 Sorry, I can't remember where I bought the yellow one, but if it comes to me I'll update this post. I think the yellow one is the original, but now even Rockler is making one, but of course it's Blue and more expensive. Found It !! - This is the one that I have. https://www.infinitytools.com/router-table-saw-small-workpiece-holder Charley1 point
