    My latest clock

my version of the Chimes of Normandy. I left a few things off that I thought weren’t necessary. 1756 holes drilled and only a dozen blades. Made out of quarter inch cherry.

    Christmas signs

Signs that I made for my two daughters for Christmas. They are as different as can be and each sign fits their personalities. Cut from poplar and painted with craft paint.

  6. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project, we make an amazing fretwork flower pot that can hold up to a 6 inch vase, (it could also hold a candle, just be careful). This Steve good design uses 1/4 inch material for the whole project and would be a great gift for that friend or family member that has a green thumb! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    Two More Inlays

Two more inlays (only because they are easy) a generic Hare and hopefully a likeness of our dog Holly, I didn't get the pointy ears quite right unfortunately, but the grandchildren recognised her straight away, so it must be somewhere close Woods and pattern same as last time, Steve Good pattern, 1 1/4" mahogany for box 1/4 mahogany top and base, 1/4 Oak for inlay, I would like to use a whiter wood for the inlay, if you have any suggestions for it, that are easily available in the UK it would be greatly appreciated, I'm not very up on woods I use what I can scavenge or have given me as a rule for my scrolling, yes I am a very poor tight git lol PS. the pic of Holly is from 2014

  8. What a cool idea to help someone reduce or stop smoking. I tried many times to reduce or stop. Even tried hypnotizing, which didn't work. Finally went cold turkey. Was tough but made it. That was over 20 years ago. Don't remember the exact because I tried so many times. Best of luck to your friend. Your craftsmanship really shows in this project. I hope your friend knows what a good friend he has in you. I salute you. Jerry

    Pelican Puzzle

I finished it this weekend. A Pelican puzzle pattern by Harvey Blyer. I used 3/4" Poplar approximately 6" x 8". Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades. After a light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac and another light sanding. Comments welcome.

  13. Finally got some shop time this week. I was able to get this cute little guy done. Cut from Aspen with a #1 mg blade. The colour is done with Unicorn Spit. Backer is BB ply, about 6" diameter. Finished with Walrus Oil. Pattern was from https://www.sg-patterns.com/slides/Glass pattern 002 Dragonfly Delight.html via a posting on one of the FB pages I subscribe to. I was also able to get a number of other cut, but not finished, projects finished!

    Non Scrolling Projects

I needed a little table to set between our chairs when we are camping. I decided to make a checker board table. It folds down and stores easy. I wanted to make a cigarette rolling tray. So I came up with this. There is a small routed out place in the lower left corner to gather extra tobacco. Both projects are made from scrap oak and poplar.

    WWII F4U CORSAIR FIGHTER

Looks pretty. The white paint strips on engine cowling really help show the engine area. Not sure about a black cockpit cover. But again I like it. Just for fun, if you wanted to above and beyond you can inlay some white stars on wings. But it adds alot more time and not much return for the effort.

  31. Peruvian Walnut is known to be an eye and skin irritant. See the article at Peruvian Walnut | The Wood Database (Hardwood) (wood-database.com). It is not clear to me if this is from organic vapors or micro-particles. You might want to wear a protective mask when cutting it. Something like this combined with safety glasses should work. Amazon.com: 3M Rugged Comfort Quick Latch Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6503QL, Gases, Vapors, Dust, Large : Tools & Home Improvement. I would encourage you to check out the wood you are working on The Wood Database site, especially the section on allergies and toxicities and especially when working with a new to you wood, exotic or otherwise and especially now that you have experienced a reaction to such. Happy cutting! What are you doing with the Peruvian Walnut? Post pictures when it is done.

  32. My box fan with a furnace filter does way better than my ceiling mounted air filtration system.. putting it on the floor about 2 - 3 foot from the saw on the side that the air puffer blows the dust towards seems to pull a lot of the dust "down" toward the ground instead of sucking it up to the ceiling and hopefully getting into the filtration system. I also do have the Seyco scroll saw dust collector..it seems to work pretty decent. but the box fan is quieter than any of them and also moves more air.

  33. I wear big clunky bifocals made from shatterproof lens material. Additionally, I always use my 5x magnifier, which is another barrier. From there, I have a WEN air filtration unit going as well as my filtered a/c that blows across me and keeps dust in the air moving away from me to the WEN. Of course, I have top and bottom vac to get most of the dust away. many people just use the 'puffer' and that blows dust right on you for the most part.

    MY PEACEFUL PONY

Thank you very much, Jerry. If you would like to see more pieces, check out my posts on this forum or look at the Member Gallery where more projects are posted, To see the largest collection of carved fretwork projects', go to pinterest.com/dickmiraglia, and click on Wildlife Interpretations in Wood. I have published articles in Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts, Creative Woodworks & Crafts, and Carving Magazine. Most of the articles are detailed instructions with loads of pictures and show how to do the power carving with a Dremel or Foredom rotary carver and which bits and burrs to use after the pattern is cut with the scroll saw,. Unfortunately, the publishing company of Creative Woodworks and Crafts has ceased publishing all of its magazines and the old copies can be hard to find, Sometimes, Google search or Etsy can help locate these older copies. The below listings might help: Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Fall 2008, issue 32 Tiger Creative Woodworks & Crafts April 2010, issue 147, How to Choose the Right Scroll Pattern for Carving CW&C, March 2011 issue 155, Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot CW&C, MAY 2011,ISSUE 156, Pride of Africa, Lion Head CW&C, March 2013, issue 171 African Giraffe CW&C, Feb 2012 issue 162 Gold Canyon Bobcat CW&C, June 173, issue 173, Claudia's Grand Canyon Elk CW&C, Dec 2012, issue 169, Great Horned Owl Hope this helps locate some of these detailed instructions for you. 41. My Lawn guy has a early 50's Chevy Pick Up he keep "rustic" pristine and he is very proud of it. Thought I would surpise him with this plaque. 1/8" BBPW with 1/4" backer finish is shellac and lacquer. Used my "paint In" method on the tires and grill.

    Two More Inlays

Maple is a great contrasting compliment to any dark wood, especially Walnut. Yes it can be exspensive but if you are only going to use it to make inlays you can get a lot out of one board. https://ocoochhardwoods.com/ is a good source. BTW, nice work.
