    Pelican Puzzle

I finished it this weekend. A Pelican puzzle pattern by Harvey Blyer. I used 3/4" Poplar approximately 6" x 8". Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades. After a light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac and another light sanding. Comments welcome.

  2. It has been over 110 up to 117 degrees here in Southern Arizona and way too hot for my liking in the shop so I have not worked out in it for over a month. I had this project started but never got back to it until this week when I decided to buck up and get it done. So here is my little project completed. I decided to try some carving with it, as usually I just cut and shape this kind of projects. I hope to make more efforts with this method and improve a lot as I go. Dick heppnerguy

    My latest clock

my version of the Chimes of Normandy. I left a few things off that I thought weren’t necessary. 1756 holes drilled and only a dozen blades. Made out of quarter inch cherry.

    Christmas signs

Signs that I made for my two daughters for Christmas. They are as different as can be and each sign fits their personalities. Cut from poplar and painted with craft paint.

    Having problems

The #5 should be fine. Be sure the blade is sharp. I use a new blade on each birdhouse.

    Pitbull

Wanted to see if I could do a decent job on a Dog portrait. Found a bunch of stencils and images of various breeds. This Pitbull Portrait with a Heart, caught my eye. I converted it to a scroll Saw Pattern and sized it to fit on an 8x10 Panel. The panel is 5/32” solid core Birch Ply. Using my Air Brush, I painted both the 1/4” BB Ply backer and the cut panel with Artist Acrylic Air Brush paints. The Panel was cut using Pegas #2/0 Spiral blades. As usual, after painting and assembly the panel was protected with multiple coats of Krylon Clear Gloss Acrylic Finish. The panel is mounted in a very inexpensive 8x10 frame I purchased in bulk on Amazon. I think it came out fairly nice, if I have to say so myself! Comments and critiques always welcome. EDIT: I posted the pattern in PATTERN EXCHANGE

  12. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project, we make an amazing fretwork flower pot that can hold up to a 6 inch vase, (it could also hold a candle, just be careful). This Steve good design uses 1/4 inch material for the whole project and would be a great gift for that friend or family member that has a green thumb! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    Two More Inlays

Two more inlays (only because they are easy) a generic Hare and hopefully a likeness of our dog Holly, I didn't get the pointy ears quite right unfortunately, but the grandchildren recognised her straight away, so it must be somewhere close Woods and pattern same as last time, Steve Good pattern, 1 1/4" mahogany for box 1/4 mahogany top and base, 1/4 Oak for inlay, I would like to use a whiter wood for the inlay, if you have any suggestions for it, that are easily available in the UK it would be greatly appreciated, I'm not very up on woods I use what I can scavenge or have given me as a rule for my scrolling, yes I am a very poor tight git lol PS. the pic of Holly is from 2014

    Finishing Cuts

Danish oil is a mixture of BLO and mineral spirits. The percentage varies but pretty much all it is. When I was in Europe that is what they had me finish teak tables with.

    Finishing Cuts

I use BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil) mixed 50/50 with mineral spirits. When I can I use a 1 gallon paint can to mix, dip, and store the BLO. The BLO is good at making the grain "pop", the thinned mixture flows into small crevices better than the regular BLO. The thinned mixture also penetrates better and dries cures faster.

    Team tokens .. Questions.

If you have a router or a rotary tool with a base, that could be routed into the disc, then filled with colored epoxy or self-hardening clay. Just make a template to do the routing, since you have 40 of them to do. To do the routing safely, you could lay out the discs on a board, then rout them all together. After the filling hardens, sand everything flat and cut out the individual discs. Tom

  18. Finally got some shop time this week. I was able to get this cute little guy done. Cut from Aspen with a #1 mg blade. The colour is done with Unicorn Spit. Backer is BB ply, about 6" diameter. Finished with Walrus Oil. Pattern was from https://www.sg-patterns.com/slides/Glass pattern 002 Dragonfly Delight.html via a posting on one of the FB pages I subscribe to. I was also able to get a number of other cut, but not finished, projects finished!

  19. What a cool idea to help someone reduce or stop smoking. I tried many times to reduce or stop. Even tried hypnotizing, which didn't work. Finally went cold turkey. Was tough but made it. That was over 20 years ago. Don't remember the exact because I tried so many times. Best of luck to your friend. Your craftsmanship really shows in this project. I hope your friend knows what a good friend he has in you. I salute you. Jerry

    My latest clock

Very, very nice. Good to see others still doing the "old school" cutting and assembly. My pricing guide from Wildwood (1999) shows a low ball selling price of $600, the high ball price of $2000 and a suggested price of $1500. I would love to make this type of project, but I don't think anyone in town would be willing to pay what it is worth. I know you didn't make it to sell, but whoever ends up with it needs to know the value.

    Two More Inlays

WHEN I do inlay, for the light wood, I use Hard maple (Preferred) soft maple or Basswood. ((linden?) Holly is the whitest I am told. Aspin would also work well. Poplar not so much. I inlay into Eastern red cedar, and oak does not contrast well with it , in my opinion.
