    next Sue Mey pattern

More of the same! This is just a nice pattern. Not sure I'm happy with my color choice for lights but it is what I had. I like the white lights but the purple is a bit much. Looks better in person.

    Dust Collection

This custom duct collection port from BigRiverWares / Etsy fit the Pegas saw exactly and greatly improved dust collection. Well worth $20.

  3. I came across this in the Big Book of Scroll Saw Woodworking (a library find) and gave it a go. Enlarged the pattern 170% from the book. 16 1/2" long by 6" wide on 5/8" pine. The pattern for the support calls for 1/2" thick but I stayed with 5/8" for it too. Used my new bandsaw to cut the outline of the pattern. (is that cheating?) #5 Pegas MGT blade . Took about 3 hours to prep and cut out. Colored using food dye (from my wife's cake decorating box O' stuff) and denatured alcohol with a small brush. That took about an hour while watching TV. Tried using alcohol and acrylic paint on a previous item but could not get the intensity I wanted for this. Maybe it was the paint. Showed The macaw to my wife and she claimed it . . . so I made another one for the next farmers' market outing. The string holding the support is temporary. Pattern shows a small eye hook at the top of the support for a string/cord, which I still need to do. It can be taken apart and reassembled. So now I'm on a puzzle kick. Made some other smaller animal ones and some have sold, so I'll keep making them too.

    Compound project

Hey everyone, decided to have another go at some 3D compound cutting. This is my 4th attempt so far, it says LOVE on one side and WOOD on the other. Just a piece of pine 1 1/2" square and about 4 1/2" long stained with dark oak. Pattern courtesy of the Scroll saw Workshop, sorry about the quality of the picture ! Regards, Alan.

  7. Luckily Home Depot and Lowe's are good about taking online orders back at their retail locations. Replaced two table saws, a bench and spindle sander without any hassle. Although I don't like spending big money on tools, I've decided it's not worth the time and agravation trying to work with inferior ones. My last two purchases were Dewalt and super happy with the quality and ease of use. I worked in retail management for "many" years and today's so called customer service is pathetic!

  8. A small rose. Pattern by Steve Good, 1/8 inch unknown wood, #2/0 Polar blade throughout (1 blade). One coat BLO, two coats shellac, uncut quarter for scale. These sell well at the market, but are a misprint on the size, and I hate to print anything and then not cut it. I was able to get some stuff done over the last couple of weeks, more in my gallery

  10. I started to file a dispute with my bank but the procedure and paperwork involved was just too much B S to add more insult to injury. I don't do Facebook but I did write a few reviews. Since it was through Amazon I have a shipping label to print. Basically I could return the wood and (Subject to their approval) they MIGHT issue a refund LESS shipping costs... I'm tempted to save up some trinkets from my 3 dogs and ship THAT in the box with their prepaid label. I'd still be out $50 but a few pounds of turds would make a statement

    Saying HI

It's so great to hear from you J.T. even on this sad note. Please consider rejoining us here on SSV. We need your sage advice more now than ever. Lots of new scrollers. ComeONBACK! I did not want to comment in the thread about Rick Hutcheson because that is not about me. So just a quick note to say HI to the villagers who remember me and to answer Ray's post. Just an update as to my doings. Since the great shut down of the pandemic, the shows I was attending never made a comeback so my scrolling days came to an end. I sold off my Dewalt788 and Hegner18" saws for a fairly cheap price and it sounded like the new owners were enthused to have them. I did keep my 2 RBI's 220 and 226. But they have been idle and I have shifted my focus to turning and mostly the making of pens. I found these are far easier to sell and to also give away. I have included a couple photos of my last show I did and my set up. I really do have alot of stuff to get rid of. as I have gotten older the desire to do shows like that is not there any more. Last year I did sell some things through FB market place and may at some time do a yard sale thing and sell things from the garage to lighten the load for my family when I pass. The eyes and hands are definitely not the same. It is good that there are new members joining the site and choosing scrolling as their hobby of choice. It still has its merits but not what it once was. I basically can not add any new sage advice that has not been given by the senior members here, I am sure. But did want to say a BIG HELLO to all and maybe I will poke my head in from time to time again. Hope all are doing well.

  25. Practice patterns are OK but they do get boring. Simple outlines are a good way to start and you can give them to kids to color and keep. Love you new practice piece, you did well. Marg

  26. Speaking of return hassles... A lot of companies including big box store chains are going to the "not purchased here locally no returns here" policy.. A story that happen to me back in June. I bought my wife a Apple watch for her birthday as she expressed that she'd like one because of her new job didn't allow her to have her phone on her and she wanted to know if I or one of the kids sent a message. It's not that she couldn't have it with her but that she had no pockets or anyway to have it with her. Anyway I bought a watch from BestBuy online as my car had a issue and road construction had the main / short way to get to the local BestBuy and I was also busy with a big order. When the package was shipped I was here out in the shop working and I also live in the boonies so typically don't have porch thieves. Regardless I was here and the package couldn't have sat on the porch more than 15 minutes. Box was rough looking but contents was in the box ( or so I thought ). Fast forward a few days I give the box to my wife for her birthday and she opens up the box to find the Apple watch box inside and opens that up.. nothing in it but a charge cable.. closer inspection you can see where the bottom of the box had been opened and taped back shut with clear tape over the brown paper type tape. We immediately take the whole thing into the local BestBuy and they refused to do anything about it because I bought it online and shipped to my house. They said if I had shipped to store and picked up they get a bounceback of profit for the sale.. They did set me up with a number to call and a case number or something but they refuse to get involved because it wasn't purchased through their store. SO just FYI if you buy from a box store.. have it shipped or do the pick-up at store rather than ship to home.. I've been hearing of many other stores doing this very same thing. Needless to say the online customer support was great, no questions asked they replaced the watch. They asked me if I wanted the watch shipped to me or the store. I chose the store but then the store didn't have any in stock and I got a run around with the store about that.. was supposed to be ready for pick-up on a given date and it wasn't they pushed it out another week, I got online and found the next town had one in stock so I go to online chat and give my case number asking if I could just go pick that one up and they switch it to that store so I could. Boy what a run around for trying to do it all online the easy way. Anyway, just wanted to bring this point up that I think many local stores are refusing any customer service if you didn't get it in store. We have heard about delivery workers stealing stuff out of boxes.. I suspect this is what happen, whether is was a dock worker loading a truck or the driver making the delivery.. somewhere down the line the watch was stolen.. BestBuy said it's happening a lot too. They've had boxes come in off the trucks for ship to store the same way.. opened up and just a empty box inside the package, LOL Crazy times..

  28. Sorry to hear of such a bad situation, only time i've ever ordered wood online was during Covid lockdowns and I was very impressed with the plywood I recieved... so much so that I've considered not getting it locally.. Locally i get it in 5ft x 5ft sheets and it's kind of a pain to cut it down to sizes.. I do have the local supplier cut into half sheets but it's still pretty large to finish cutting to size. This is the place I ordered it https://www.cherokeewood.com/baltic-birch-plywood/ and I've seen many others reviews of this place.. seems like a good place to deal with. I've been to my local woodcraft store and wasn't ever much impressed with the quality of wood they had in the showroom. I wasn't sure if that was how it always was or if they was waiting on a shipment of fresh supply. What they had looked like slim pickings and had been picked through so I assumed they would be getting a delivery soon.. but maybe this is how they do?

Trust me it’d be too boring. It probably too me 6-8 hours to make this one. I know there are much better and faster ways but I enjoy it. It’s therapeutic and I just do a bit here and there. Many times spending nearly the whole time watching a Braves game just to do a couple of eyes.

    Hanging Macaw Parrot Puzzle

Hi Barb, Yes, I had to do some whittling on both of mine as well to get the parrot piece to slide onto the support. But once I did that, it made it a lot easier to assemble/disassemble the puzzle.

  33. I might be tempted to go to their Facebook page, if they have one, and let everybody know what has happened and how you are being treated. I did that one time when I was having problems with U.S. Bank and I actually got an email from somebody up the chain that same day and wanted to know how they could rectify the situation. Don't accept what is happening to you. It will never get better if you lay down. Fight them and you will win. They hate bad publicity and letting them know that you have been wronged is where you start. Edit: I just checked and they have a presence on FB. Let them have it!

  34. My new Halloween set. Each pattern consists of 3 layers, recommended to use stains or 2 types of wood, 1/8 inch. Approximate size of each pattern is 3,5 x 3,5 inches. I added ring for hanging - I think it is great variant for home or jard decoration for Halloween. Patterns at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

    Cross

These are from a Sue Mey pattern. She has a LOT patterns of crosses. The one on the right is 1/4" cedar and the one on the left is 1/2" white oak (more substantial). Cut on my Pegas scroll saw. I used a Pegas MGT#3 blade for the cedar cross. I started the white oak cross with the same MGT#3 blade but soon changed to a MGT#5 blade. I intend to put a backer on the cedar cross to give it support. I am still deciding how to finish the two of them.

    Eagle and Lab

Finished a couple pieces over the weekend. The Eagle is a Arpop pattern double stack cut in 1/4-inch ply Birch. One is finished Natural stain while the other is Ipswich. Both have 1/4-inch Pine backers painted black. The frames are custom fit using framing material. The Lab with Duck was at the request of my wife and is a pattern by H. Botas. I double stacked 1/4-inch Maple ply and again finished one with Natural and the other Ipswich. I used 1/4-inch Birch for the backers and painted one black and the other is stained with Espresso. Again, the frames were custom cut using framing material. All the pieces were sprayed with four coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding using 320-grit sandpaper between coats. I used Pegas 2/0, 0, 1 spiral and 2/0 MGT blades. The wife plans to gift one of the Labs with the duck to her dog training instructor. Obviously, she has a Lab. I'm almost finished with a Papillon piece she plans to gift one of her dog training classmates. She and my wife are the only two training Papillons. Both were fun and relatively easy cuts.

  47. I cheated and put 3 Scroll Saw projects on top. This is my project that I finished today. I have been saving wood and designing over and over in my head for about a year. All of the wood is either grown and cut right around the house or reclaimed from a local barn that was built in the 1890's. The woods are Oak, Pine and Cedar. All were rough cut and either planed down or lightly sanded. Some of it had worm holes and I thought it added some character. The finish is sprayed satin Poly. The size is 36"x54", Bences are 19" tall. I only used 8 brads for the leg pillars and 8 screws to hold the top on. Everything else is glued and doweled. I am hoping to make memories with this table and my Son and Granddaughters.
