  1. Even though I have good seating and posture, if I sit for more than a few hours my OLD back let's me know that's too long. I worked a few hours on "Missed Opportunities" another Steve Good design yesterday and a few today to finish it. I'm quite sure seasoned scrollers could have knocked it out in half the time but hopefully I will get faster as I keep practicing. At least I haven't ruined anything "yet"

    Compound project

Hey everyone, decided to have another go at some 3D compound cutting. This is my 4th attempt so far, it says LOVE on one side and WOOD on the other. Just a piece of pine 1 1/2" square and about 4 1/2" long stained with dark oak. Pattern courtesy of the Scroll saw Workshop, sorry about the quality of the picture ! Regards, Alan.

  4. Did this Russ Beard pattern for a customer, used 1/4” ply wood, cut with a #0 pin less blade, finished with two coats Danish Oil, light coat Mahogany Stain and two coats clear varnish. I’m happy with the end result and so is the customer.

    Done for a friend

Thanks Don for doing the pattern for me. I did this for a friend at work for a relatives wedding. I used a #3 skip tooth,3/4” oak and a semi gloss poly. I really like the piece of oak. I had it stacked in the garage for about two years. I have about four more feet of it. That is white oak correct? I usually can only get red oak. I got this from my brother. Thanks for looking.

  7. Yet another kirigami piece from . 1/4 bbply, I found its cheaper to get the 4'x8' sheet and cut it down into manageable quarters than to buy the smaller pre-cut sheets. Single-stacked this one, so it used a lot of Pegas #0/2MG blades. Stains are Minwax "Natural" and "Honey".

  9. It has been record breaking heat here and today and yesterday are no exception. It is still in the 100 plus teens here. we are supposed to find some relief in about 2 more days. I can't wait. I have another request for a new project and I need to be able to work in my shop as it is for a wedding taking place this soon. I found this pattern on a paper cutting page of the computer and knew when I saw it that i just had to cut it. this is how it came out. My wife took it off the wall the second day it was finished and gave it to our granddaughter who was at our house helping my wife wife her meds and doctor appointment coming up in a few days. Saying HI

It's so great to hear from you J.T. even on this sad note. Please consider rejoining us here on SSV. We need your sage advice more now than ever. Lots of new scrollers. ComeONBACK! I did not want to comment in the thread about Rick Hutcheson because that is not about me. So just a quick note to say HI to the villagers who remember me and to answer Ray's post. Just an update as to my doings. Since the great shut down of the pandemic, the shows I was attending never made a comeback so my scrolling days came to an end. I sold off my Dewalt788 and Hegner18" saws for a fairly cheap price and it sounded like the new owners were enthused to have them. I did keep my 2 RBI's 220 and 226. But they have been idle and I have shifted my focus to turning and mostly the making of pens. I found these are far easier to sell and to also give away. I have included a couple photos of my last show I did and my set up. I really do have alot of stuff to get rid of. as I have gotten older the desire to do shows like that is not there any more. Last year I did sell some things through FB market place and may at some time do a yard sale thing and sell things from the garage to lighten the load for my family when I pass. The eyes and hands are definitely not the same. It is good that there are new members joining the site and choosing scrolling as their hobby of choice. It still has its merits but not what it once was. I basically can not add any new sage advice that has not been given by the senior members here, I am sure. But did want to say a BIG HELLO to all and maybe I will poke my head in from time to time again. Hope all are doing well.

  12. I hear you. A couple hours sitting at the scroll saw and my old back will not straighten up until I move around for an hour or so loosening things up! But you got it done and a nice job.

  13. It just wants us to 'stir up the blood'. Nice job, clean cuts, and it's not about how long, but about how much fun. When I try to go faster I mess up and that ruins everything for me.

  15. In fact there is a ring that he made that shows perfect hexagon light panels 5 panels. He showed the ring during his lunch presentations. He allowed GIA to photo it. They said is is the only opal specimen that showed crystaline structure. He said he will donate it to smithsonian when he dies. It did not make it to Smithsonian. It is in the LA Historic museum. I considered a this to be a personal message but the topic might be good for other readers. I have been thinking how I can mount my specimens in wood. I only have 2 small ones. It seems I also forgot to tell you your work is really nice. Very good ideas and execution.

  20. Speaking of return hassles... A lot of companies including big box store chains are going to the "not purchased here locally no returns here" policy.. A story that happen to me back in June. I bought my wife a Apple watch for her birthday as she expressed that she'd like one because of her new job didn't allow her to have her phone on her and she wanted to know if I or one of the kids sent a message. It's not that she couldn't have it with her but that she had no pockets or anyway to have it with her. Anyway I bought a watch from BestBuy online as my car had a issue and road construction had the main / short way to get to the local BestBuy and I was also busy with a big order. When the package was shipped I was here out in the shop working and I also live in the boonies so typically don't have porch thieves. Regardless I was here and the package couldn't have sat on the porch more than 15 minutes. Box was rough looking but contents was in the box ( or so I thought ). Fast forward a few days I give the box to my wife for her birthday and she opens up the box to find the Apple watch box inside and opens that up.. nothing in it but a charge cable.. closer inspection you can see where the bottom of the box had been opened and taped back shut with clear tape over the brown paper type tape. We immediately take the whole thing into the local BestBuy and they refused to do anything about it because I bought it online and shipped to my house. They said if I had shipped to store and picked up they get a bounceback of profit for the sale.. They did set me up with a number to call and a case number or something but they refuse to get involved because it wasn't purchased through their store. SO just FYI if you buy from a box store.. have it shipped or do the pick-up at store rather than ship to home.. I've been hearing of many other stores doing this very same thing. Needless to say the online customer support was great, no questions asked they replaced the watch. They asked me if I wanted the watch shipped to me or the store. I chose the store but then the store didn't have any in stock and I got a run around with the store about that.. was supposed to be ready for pick-up on a given date and it wasn't they pushed it out another week, I got online and found the next town had one in stock so I go to online chat and give my case number asking if I could just go pick that one up and they switch it to that store so I could. Boy what a run around for trying to do it all online the easy way. Anyway, just wanted to bring this point up that I think many local stores are refusing any customer service if you didn't get it in store. We have heard about delivery workers stealing stuff out of boxes.. I suspect this is what happen, whether is was a dock worker loading a truck or the driver making the delivery.. somewhere down the line the watch was stolen.. BestBuy said it's happening a lot too. They've had boxes come in off the trucks for ship to store the same way.. opened up and just a empty box inside the package, LOL Crazy times..
