    Never Forget

From the ashes of a tragedy and a pile of rubble deep from mountains piled with twisted steel a woeful people weep then somewhere came a ray of ray of hope amidst the shattered dreams as these men came out and stood upon all those broken beams J. Blume 2023

    Money Puzzles

Having not been here for awhile, and after taking a look around the site to see what everyone is doing, I see that puzzles of all kinds are still popular. I did some of the money puzzles by Steve Good and they were a big hit when I was still doing shows before the pandemic. So my question is has anyone else tried these puzzles?? They are kind of fun to make. I make all denominations and the puzzle is actually 2 puzzles in one because I do the reverse side also on the same puzzle. So to mess with builder you can turn the pieces front and back. Take them a little longer to make. The movie prop money is so real looking too. In fact before one show there was an article in the papers that someone used this money in some sort of scam. Here is my version.

  3. Bats and Moon puzzle by Al Baggetta found in the current issue of SWWC. I used 3/4" Hard Maple 8" square. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #3 MGT blades. After sanding, stained the bats with Saman stain and dipped in diluted Shellac. Then another light sanding with a Mac Mop. This puzzle is a little difficult as several bats are very similar in size. Careful assembly required. Comments welcome.

  6. Hey Everyone And Happy Labor Day If Your In The States! In this fun scroll saw project video, we make a neat little Miniature Horse Head Diorama! This Steve Good Design uses 1/4 inch material for the horses head and 1/2 inch material for the base. This Project would look great in a cabin out in the country! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    The Lifter

Back when I had my DeWalt they didn't have the lifter invented yet.. But shortly after first getting the new DeWalt Jim Dandy came up with the "easy lift" .. That made so much difference in the scrolling experience that I could never go back to a saw that the arm didn't at least stay up.. Then I got spoiled when I got my Hawk scroll saw.. spring loaded upper arm sure is much nicer than even the easy lift, LOL.. no lifting at all as the arm just pops up out of the way once you release the blade or break a blade.. Sometimes when I've not used my Excalibur in a really like time I forget that I have to "lift" the arm manually.. LOL.. I'll be setting there for like 5 seconds waiting or in a daze as to why the arm didn't go up, LOL

    Hanging Macaw Parrot Puzzle

I came across this in the Big Book of Scroll Saw Woodworking (a library find) and gave it a go. Enlarged the pattern 170% from the book. 16 1/2" long by 6" wide on 5/8" pine. The pattern for the support calls for 1/2" thick but I stayed with 5/8" for it too. Used my new bandsaw to cut the outline of the pattern. (is that cheating?) #5 Pegas MGT blade . Took about 3 hours to prep and cut out. Colored using food dye (from my wife's cake decorating box O' stuff) and denatured alcohol with a small brush. That took about an hour while watching TV. Tried using alcohol and acrylic paint on a previous item but could not get the intensity I wanted for this. Maybe it was the paint. Showed The macaw to my wife and she claimed it . . . so I made another one for the next farmers' market outing. The string holding the support is temporary. Pattern shows a small eye hook at the top of the support for a string/cord, which I still need to do. It can be taken apart and reassembled. So now I'm on a puzzle kick. Made some other smaller animal ones and some have sold, so I'll keep making them too.

    Compound project

Hey everyone, decided to have another go at some 3D compound cutting. This is my 4th attempt so far, it says LOVE on one side and WOOD on the other. Just a piece of pine 1 1/2" square and about 4 1/2" long stained with dark oak. Pattern courtesy of the Scroll saw Workshop, sorry about the quality of the picture ! Regards, Alan.

  12. I'm not a puzzle maker. However, I found a nice Puzzle of an Elephant that I thought would be nice to make for my soon-to-be-born Great-Grandson. His nursery is all decked out in Elephant's on his crib blankets, a hanging mobile etc. I did not have any nice solid wood, so I decided to cut it in a piece of 3/4" thick premium pine, since I plan to paint the puzzle pieces anyway... Airbrush Elephant Grey of course using Artist Acrylic paint with a Polycrylic protective coating. Thinking I needed a wide kerf I used a Pegas #1 spiral blade. This proved to be the wrong choice. Although it goes together easily it is very loose and the cut edges are not very smooth. I have since found out, from replies to my Q&A, I should have used a standard blade. I had used a drill hole to start the perimeter cut which left a solid boarder. I added a backer to the border, mounted the boarder - tilted back about 12 degrees - to a base and I’m able to use it to display the puzzle that won’t stand up by itself. I stained the Pine stand with Minwax Sedona Red and finished it with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Lacquer. Although I did not do things the best way and the results could have been better, I think the finish project came out OK. Comments and Critiques always welcome.

  16. as I said previously, I am almost never happy when I color my work and I did try again on a project I had painted before just to see if I could do any better. Here is the results....and this is an improvement over what it was like before this one, so maybe I can get the hang of it if I keep trying. I hope so, anyway. Dick heppnerguy

    Rikon Scroll Saw

I saw that today too Dave. I think it was on Steve Good's site. It looks like a nice saw as long as quality control is doing its job. Of course you have to add $100 or so for the better Pegas chucks.

  20. JT Here is a picture of the large panel. This is not mine, it's where I got the Idea. Didn't think I'd ever be able to do one ( cost of the wood ) but I took down a large Elm tree and had it slabbed up. I now have 13 boards to play with.

    next Sue Mey pattern

More of the same! This is just a nice pattern. Not sure I'm happy with my color choice for lights but it is what I had. I like the white lights but the purple is a bit much. Looks better in person.
