Lockheed Jet Star II Thought it was time to visit the “Way Back Machine” and look at the Jet Star II. Back in the mid 70’s and 80’s I worked as an aircraft mechanic at White Plains, NY (HPN) It was a major hub for business aviation aircraft 45 minutes north of NYC. One of the most familiar aircraft on the airport was the Jet Star I and Jet Star II. Companies like Xerox operated a fleet of these aircraft along with Reader Digest, Avco Lycoming and Texas Gulf Sulfur. It had 4 Honeywell 731 Turbo fan engines and fuel capacity of 18,000 lbs. with a range of about 2,500 miles. It could carry 10 passengers and 2 crew. It had inflatable leading edge boots on the wings for deicing. The original Jet Star I (P&W JT-12 Engines) was first produced in 1961 as part of a Gov program and the Jet Star II’s were produced from 1976 to 1979. A total of over 400 of both models were manufactured. The Jet Star I model has been retired but there are still some Jet Star II’s still flying.7 points

Don't get much scrolling time anymore, but I did squeeze in one over a 5 week period. This is a pattern by Jacob and Wayne Fowler. Book titled "Woodworker's Pattern Book, 78 Realistic Fretwork Animals" The pattern is made to be done with one piece of wood, but I figured out how to at least make the head with White Aspen. the body and stand are Black Walnut. I/2" thick.6 points

So, I had the thumb book holders on display last week, and actually remembered some books. I just need something to display how it works....something......something... ! some "thing". Due to the interconnectedness of the universe, Steve Good had a pattern this week of a hand holding a heart. A little work with Inkscape and I made a "thing" :4 points

Working on 3-dimensions with my spoon carving
wombatie and 2 others reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
This is one of my projects for today. Started carving at 3/4" thick blank stock, I was only going to go to 1/4" on the leaves, but I wound up going REALLY thin after I did shaping and sanding. Also working on my undercutting technique to get more dimension and shape. Still a bit more sanding before laying the Old Masters clear gel finish on it. My inspiration is the calla lilies in my garden.3 points -
Had to cut this one
DickMira and 2 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I ran across this pattern, which by the way was not a scroll saw pattern, and liked it so much I printed it so my wife could look at it later that day. Immediately she said that she really liked it and wanted me to cut it. I told her that it was not a scroll saw pattern and it was not a really clear photo of it anyway. Well my wife usually gets her way, so I told her I would try to look it up again and see if I could get a clearer look at it, but I could not find it again, so I enlarged it and gave it a go. I was going to make a frame for it and make a rectangular background but she did not want one like that. So I made an extended background and painted it with three different colors, as I did. So this is how it came out. Reminds me of something from a kids story book about witches or something like that. Dick heppnerguy3 points -

I hate this font
OCtoolguy reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
This is an early Steve Good pattern. He used Stencil font A better alternative is Stencil 2 font or Scroll Beach Beach Italic The only Bridge required is the R. See below. First line is Stencil and second is Stencil 2 last is Scroll Beach Italic If you have questions please post and I am sure some one will have a good alternative.1 point -

Haven't tried any others yet. They are all great until they aren't. If there's a 10% chance of getting a dud, I'm usually in that group, just the way it's always been... Maybe I'll get lucky on the next online order from one of the recommendations here.1 point

finally got back in the shop
danny reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
It has been record breaking heat here and today and yesterday are no exception. It is still in the 100 plus teens here. we are supposed to find some relief in about 2 more days. I can't wait. I have another request for a new project and I need to be able to work in my shop as it is for a wedding taking place this soon. I found this pattern on a paper cutting page of the computer and knew when I saw it that i just had to cut it. this is how it came out. My wife took it off the wall the second day it was finished and gave it to our granddaughter who was at our house helping my wife wife her meds and doctor appointment coming up in a few days. Yes Norm, I wrote the poem. I did the pattern a few years ago and took the time a few days ago to clean it up a little. Thank you.1 point

Compound project
danny reacted to Scrollshrimp for a topic
Hey everyone, decided to have another go at some 3D compound cutting. This is my 4th attempt so far, it says LOVE on one side and WOOD on the other. Just a piece of pine 1 1/2" square and about 4 1/2" long stained with dark oak. Pattern courtesy of the Scroll saw Workshop, sorry about the quality of the picture ! Regards, Alan.1 point -

as I said previously, I am almost never happy when I color my work and I did try again on a project I had painted before just to see if I could do any better. Here is the results....and this is an improvement over what it was like before this one, so maybe I can get the hang of it if I keep trying. I hope so, anyway. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

actually, do to the extreme record braking heat here in Southern Arizona..I choose to not make a frame for this one and just use the pattern's 'kind of' frame instead. However I do agree on using a frame and as far as painting goes, I told my wife I wish I had the talent to paint but everything I try to paint, at least for the most part, I wish I had not tried as I most often become very discouraged with the outcome. That said, I did purchase some paints that I am anxious to try and see if I can master it enough to begin to be happy with the results. So I have to agree with all you said but I hope you will begin to see some of what you are talking about in the very near future. Thanks for your hints. I love to see your work as the frames and painting are done so well. I certainly agree that color when done properly add a tremendous amount of interest and beauty to any project, if done well Dick heppnerguy1 point -
Finished a couple pieces over the weekend. The Eagle is a Arpop pattern double stack cut in 1/4-inch ply Birch. One is finished Natural stain while the other is Ipswich. Both have 1/4-inch Pine backers painted black. The frames are custom fit using framing material. The Lab with Duck was at the request of my wife and is a pattern by H. Botas. I double stacked 1/4-inch Maple ply and again finished one with Natural and the other Ipswich. I used 1/4-inch Birch for the backers and painted one black and the other is stained with Espresso. Again, the frames were custom cut using framing material. All the pieces were sprayed with four coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding using 320-grit sandpaper between coats. I used Pegas 2/0, 0, 1 spiral and 2/0 MGT blades. The wife plans to gift one of the Labs with the duck to her dog training instructor. Obviously, she has a Lab. I'm almost finished with a Papillon piece she plans to gift one of her dog training classmates. She and my wife are the only two training Papillons. Both were fun and relatively easy cuts.1 point
