Started out with Flying Dutchman #5 PGT but the mouse needed Olson 2R crown tooth. Was like chopping through a old log... I modified Steve's design because 3/4 stuck out too far from the molding so it was off to the bench belt sander to sand off a quarter inch. Would have been less dusty if I had a half inch board... Still learning!1 point

Well I looked at this pattern a while before deciding to get started. And I am Very Happy with the way it looks. Had some Hold the breath happenings, but All in All I Really did Enjoy cutting this pattern. I am not real sure, but think Jim Blume designed it. Anyway all comments are very welcome...............Danny :+}1 point

Blade lubricant?
Mark SW reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
One other advantage of clear shelf liner is you can still see the wood, thus the grain. When doing intarsia or other types of projects where grain direction, coloring variations, and/or patterns are important, you can easily arrange your stencil in place and orientation. Below is a recent project at the stencil application stage. You can see the clear shelf liner that the stencil is glued to. A lot of the times, I fold the liner down on the sides, sometimes not...1 point -
Me too! Dan & RAYFAIRCHILD said: I forgot another trick...shelf liner. I've used it several times. The peel-and-stick liner is placed right to the wood. Then glue the pattern to the shelf liner. The adhesive in the shelf liner helps lubricate the blade. And, no clear packing tape over the pattern. I use clear peel-and-stick shelf liner... WOrks on every type of wood. Come off real easy and leaves no residue.1 point

The cutting took far longer than making the pattern.1 point -
@dgmanYes, clear packing tape is difficult to remove from the wood and probably would leave a residue. That is why I suggested using the clear packing tape as the second layer. Layer 1 - something that is easy to remove and does not leave a residue - everybody has their own favorite for this. Layer 2 - clear packing tape for blade lubrication. Place it here so you do not get sawdust under it obscuring the pattern lines. Layer 3 - the pattern.1 point

Several brands of scroll saw are based on the original excalibur design: see the article " Excalibur Scroll Saw - What Happened?" posted in Resources, Articles in this forum. The Pegas, Seyco and King scroll saws are excellent examples of this design. But the scroll saw now marketed as "Excalibur" is a lower quality version of that same design.1 point

I replaced my Craftsman router table a couple of years ago with a complete setup from Infinity. Absolutely love it!! That said, to answer your question. I made the zero clearance insert(white) it snaps into the standard table insert(red). I have used the Dremel router bits years ago in the Dremel router but it was all a bit flimsy for my liking. I use a MAC mop to soften any end grain tearout. This is the 1/16 bit.1 point

help with buying a scroll saw
OCtoolguy reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
I have an original EX-21 that was made in Taiwan. Now about 12 years old and used practically every day and is as good as the day I bought it. The only thing I did was replace the blade holder with Pegas blade holders. I think all the bad press on the Excalibur came when the manufacturing was moved to China. The original design is now sold under the King Industrial name. Not as expensive as the Pegas (In Canada about $200 cheaper). I hear good thing about it. What ever you decide on get a foot switch if not included in the package. I have the dead man one from Harbor Freight.1 point -

You did a fabulous job in cutting Danny. Very fine pattern and nicely framed.1 point -
Awesome job, Danny. I can see why you had to hold your breath in some of those areas. That's what makes cutting these type projects so fun.1 point

Danny as I am sure you found out Mike's is still the cheapest on blades plus free shipping. I have checked everybody I could think of and Mike's still has the best price.1 point

Latest Projects - Scroll Saw Challenge
rdatelle reacted to rash_powder for a topic
I don’t know if this counts as a ‘latest scroll saw project’; but it is a project and it is for my scroll saw. it’s a below-the-table dust pickup for my Hegner VS22. All those Seyco, Excalibur, and Jet saws with the through the table pickups had me jealous, so I’m correcting it. i e to drill the hole through the dust port, and then hot glue it under the table. There’s a pair of strengthening ribs under it this will fit between. Then an adapter for my loc-line pipe and I get to try it out. Hopefully it won’t be in the way too much. If I don’t like it I can easily cut the hot glue loose and put it comes. it’s made from PVC pipe heated and flattened/shaped as needed. No scroll saw was used, however. All hand saws, chisels, heat gun, etc. if not allowed feel free to delete post!1 point -
