  1. A few more items for stock. One of my upcoming shows is for a cat rescue, hence the two cat puzzles. Wood is poplar ordered from KJP hardwood.

  3. Layered Snowflake Ornament #1 pattern by Keith Fenton and found in SWWC Winter issue page 72. I stack cut two blanks 1/4" x 4" square for each top (Ash) and back (Eastern Red Cedar}. I found the Eastern Red Cedar is too fragile and broke when sanding, so I balanced by cutting off every other little piece. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using #1 MGT blades. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac and the one coat of spray Lacquer Clear Gloss. Comments welcome.

  4. Does this count ? I'll answer my own question, it's not scroll saw related so that's a big NO! LOL It's kind of Halloween related though.

  5. Had a Co-worker ask me for a Louisiana Tech logo for his mancave. He graduated from there. This is what I came up with.

  8. I started a new feature on my personal blog site, and actually recorded a video to go along with the photos. "What's on my Workbench". Usually, I have a few projects going on at the same time, I also have a few that are already set with the patterns glued on. Lots of patterns are already printed and sitting on a shelf. Kind of A.D.D. if you ask me! I have another post here tracking my Flag, Eagle, and Lady Liberty project, but this is another one that I am plugging away at currently. This is a 1937 design from Germany (Saxony), it will hold 5 tea candles when done. This pattern was given to me by someone in Germany and the plan is to give it as a gift to a German Officer I work with at NATO HQ. I kind of wish that I had done this 4 years ago when my Branch Head "Colonel Paul" was my boss, He was from the Saxony area. It would have made a great going away/ retirement gift for him. He was one of the best bosses I have had. Lots of detail work!

  9. I almost hate to throw my hat into the ring with such awesome projects. My little ole skull pales in comparison to you guys. Here it is anyway though.

  11. I have been away from most of my intarsia making projects and decided to try and make a few of the patterns I have had around for awhile. In doing so I found a photo of this one somewhere on line and downloaded the photo and attempted to make a pattern from it and cut make it, as i sort of liked the little guy. Here is what I ended up with. The one thing I added to the wood to get what I wanted from it was the multiple little lines on the owls body by simply using a wood burning too to make them. I have never tried that before and thought it worked fairly well this time. Dick heppnerguy

  13. Making a few adjustments to the base layer of this piece. I had resized the eagle, and need to account for the change. One I am satisfied with what I penciled in, I will red pen it for these old eyes

  14. When I first moved to Arizona I saw an owl almost every morning when I walked the neighborhood, but for the past couple of years I see nor here then no longer. I am not sure why that it but I really enjoyed them ask WHO I was as I walked by Dick heppnerguy

  15. Thank you. I was hoping to find the pattern and purchase it but but was unable to do so and I had to make me a pattern as best as I could so some of the detail was unavailable to me. I lost a good view of all parts and did the best I could to make a pattern. Dick heppnerguy

Reminds me of the old show route 66. Every teen my age watched it and dreamed of a life like that. Nice cutting.

  22. Okay, here's day two. The eagle has landed! As I was arranging the elements of this, I decided to put Lady Liberty on a riser, rather than having her at the same level as the eagle. Aesthetically, I believe it looks better with three levels. Oh and the score... 1 broken crown point broken and repaired. 1 broken eagle tail feather repaired. Now I have a dilemma on how I will finish this. I was going to do a rattle can finish, Of course, Red and blue for the flag, and if I add an accent backer that would be white. The eagle was going to be gold, and for Lady Liberty, I was going to do a mix of 3 rattle colors and simulate copper, her original finish. I have included a photo of one of my multi-rattle can finishes. As you can see it comes out well. The thing is, in order to get the desired effects, I have to lay multiple, THICK, coats of paint. I am afraid that those will clog the small line veining in Liberty and the Eagle. This would mean going in by hand and clearing them all out. Because of how many and how fragile the pieces are, I am having second thoughts. I do not want plain wood or stain. I am thinking of bringing out my airbrush, as that is thin paint, but the effect will not be the same as I had planned. Any thoughts on that for finishing?

  23. Well done, Dick. Owls are always popular, Everytime I go out side in the dark, the owls are hooting like crazy. Seems like there are getting more and more of them in our area. I wish the little burrowing owls would come back. Unfortunately they are no longer to be found in our area.

LOML decided the little crosses were too plain, so she blinged them up.

  28. I cut this once before, a couple of years ago. I looked up the difference between thankful and grateful then and had to look again to get it straight in my mind. As I understand it an example would be, while you’re thankful for the food you’re eating, you’re grateful that hunger isn’t really a problem for you.

  32. Been a while since I cut anything monster/horror-related (I do have a couple printed out and in the to-cut stack), due to some on-going family crises, but here's a couple I've done over the years. These usually hang around our office area at work during October.

  35. My latest project was mini model A cars. They are so cute and fun to make that I made a second batch of 18. These are for my upcoming shows. I’m currently working on a fleet of Kenworths which will soon be completed.

  36. I did this one a while back. When leaving Jasper AB going west there is this very big “lake” not sure if you can call it that it was only about one foot deep ( haven’t been to Jasper for quite a while so not sure if it’s dried up). Anyway we saw a bear walking across the water and it looked like it was walking on water ( the kids called it the Jesus Bear). Even though this picture is a Grizzly walking on ice, it always reminds me of my favorite place on Earth, Jasper.
