Whew, almost done with this one. Tomorrow I will add a couple of coats of shellac. 12 1/2 hrs of cutting 15 minutes for the plaque outline. 3/8" Elm for the plaque 1/8" hardboard for the backer, backer prepainted. FD Polar #1 for most of the fretwork, about 4 holes needed #2/0, #5 Polar for the outline. A lot of time but it looks good.

  2. I needed some new outdoor ornaments. Thought I would try Steve Good's pattern, minus the "Merry Christmas". Stack cut two and used a #1 MG blade. Don't remember what the material is called but is is plastic with ridges running in it. Cutting was easy as there is very little resistance to the material. A lot of fuzzies on the back, but not worried about it because they will be outdoors and no one will get close enough to notice. Hubby wants at least two more, preferably 4 more!

  4. I took my kids to the drive-in to see Muppet Christmas Carol about 30 years ago. We all get together and watch it every year. Tonight was the night this year so I cut two of these to give my two oldest who've given me 5 grandkids. I hope they're still watching it 30 years from now and still have these cuttings to remember tonight. The pattern is in the library.

  5. I cut these way before I did the oval names but never got around to posting them. Please don't ask sizes, or blades or type of woods, my memory is not that good. Marg

  6. Oh boy... went from hardly any business to .... I have a order for 25 of the praying hands clock to make and delivered by 12-6.. AND 26 pieces of the word "knowledge" cut out as a desk / shelf sitter cut from 3/4" material and just using the scrollsaw font. Now I just got two more clock orders for my Dachshund dog clock and has been sold out and switched to a made to order status.. LOL.. Meanwhile ornament sales also picked way up and many are getting close to being sold out.. Moral of my story is.. be careful what you ask for.. a couple weeks back because business hadn't picked up yet I prayed.. not asking for work but for guidance as to where the big man wanted me to be... business had been slow and I was only asking if I should keep at it or look for a job.. Now I got a whole years worth of work to do in a few weeks, If I'm missing from the forums I maybe sleeping in a pile of sawdust in front of my saw..

That looks like the kind of pattern where a person could practice their "sailor language". Well done!

  8. I used 2 kits for my saw. Then I bought 2 lengths for my drill press since I had left over accessories from the 2nd kit.

  10. Here is the boring 20 minute video of me cutting real time video.. might want to turn sound down / off as I didn't edit the sound out so you hear my vacuum dust collector running.

  13. Here you go. Looking forward the blast gate in the bottom right controls both the upper and lower vac. Note that I have a separate blast gate on the lower vac so I can "throttle" it, if the suction is too great on the piece. The bottom vac is 3D printed by James and works a lot better than the stock... in other words, it sucks.

  23. Well my wife wanted to go Christmas shopping early and I wasn't really in the mood for that so I stayed home.. Fired up the CNC and in two hours had carved 27 clock bases.. so now I have 18 clocks scrolled and more than enough bases made. I should have been productive and cut the clocks or done some sanding while the CNC was doing it's thing.. About all I did was clean up around the saws and drill press etc. where I had been working.. Then my son stopped by so I called it a day.. Had I been productive I could have had all 21 of these made and ready for sanding / finishing.. Currently have around 12 hours into this.. Guessing I'll have about 2 maybe 3 hours.. of sanding, attaching the bases, and finishing..

  28. Rolf, thanks for your picture of the trap you made...a mini cyclone is a great idea. I do have a request, could you take a picture of your entire dust set up, I can't figure out where your pivot piece would be on your unit (that @Scrappile mentioned and took a picture of) in relation to your trap. Thank you! Marie

  33. I generally keep my cut with the waste to the right. I am a stop and start also. Add to that I am slower than molasses on a sub zero winter day. My goal is to nail my lines and have the sharpest corners possible. Since I also round the back of the blade, I might also have the saw stopped when backing up. Sometimes not. Here's an example of me cutting. I am still learning to speak and saw at the same time... I now can walk and chew gum though.

  34. I realize that everyone cuts at a different pace. I am just saying that it would take me longer than 20 minutes. I purchased the 20 minute puzzle book, from Fox Publishing. Still haven't cut in 20 minutes!! Maybe 25.

  35. 20 minutes - wow! I would place my time at about 40- 60 minutes!

  36. Glad for you, moneywise, but it would take the joy of scrolling to be under that pressure. I do it only for the joy, thank goodness.
