    Modified MAN CAVE Hand Saw

Got a request to make a MAN CAVE sign putting the words not a wrench handle but on the side of a handsaw. Sure no problem. I knew Steve Good and others have those patterns - but - not in the desired font. They were really wavy fonts. So, not being wanting to take the time (relearning) making the changes with Inkscape or Publisher, I started with a Steve Good pattern and went the manual route: enlarging/printing, reducing/printing, taping, until I got it right. I think she and her Father will like it.

  6. After deciding to scale down SG's "Dirty Harry" pattern and dealing with some serious sciatica issues, I finally finished scrolling my project this morning... Even though I was not pain free by any means I just wanted to get the last of it done. I feel it was worth it!

  8. Well, I've pondered long enough on deciding what ones of the 150+ ornaments that I sell to post on here,LOL.. Honestly some of the best ones I like are actually done on the laser but I didn't want to offend anyone on the scroll saw site so I'll stick to the scroll sawn ones.. My favorites to make and most popular sellers are mostly career themed.. so I'll post a few of the more popular ones.. and a couple that I really like but really not popular sellers..

  16. The first shot is a compilation of cuttings I have given family through the years. (Explains the duplication) Second are a few birdhouses I have done. The birds are displayed separately. Third shot is some designs from this year on 1/4" poplar backers. I also mounted some cuttings on purchased metal blanks. Finally, we move on to Randolph who is Rudolph's not so serious cousin. I have had a blast with this pattern. Some have shiny earrings, some have loop earrings and so on. I love doing ornaments and giving them to friends and family.

  20. Nice work Jimmy. Sciatia is a pain in the butt, err back. I too have issues with sciatia and can usually sit at the scroll saw for 2 hours at a time. Good thing I'm not doing this for a living. Jerry

  26. This video by Steve Good will answer so many of the basic questions that we get on a daily basis here at The Village. If it can be referred to by all those who are just starting out, it will answer most all of their questions regarding saws.

    Finished another

The "rope" ring and the middle emblem piece is 1/4" BB, the stained area where the script is is 1/8". I use the waste from cutting the rope as the backer because it is thick enough to put my id disk on and the hanger. this picture does not show the hanger but I use a sawtooth hanger. Do it. I have been scrolling a long time and there military emblems are the absolute most rewarding project I have done. I have been so thanked to the point of tears from some. It means a lot. It is so worth the effort. My dental Hygienist mentioned to me the first visit that she was a Marine. I made one and just left it at her office. I got a phone call from her and she was crying with thanks. Now I go get my teeth cleaned, I get the cleaning and a hug! I still get a bill but with the hug it is not as painful..

  33. 2022 Christmas tree with ornaments made that year. Several are hanging on the window screen. The snowmen are made from Jenga blocks but could be easily made with a scrollsaw. The penguin and Snowman are burnt out light bulbs.

  38. Here are a few I have made recently. I have been trying to use up bits and pieces of wood I have that are too thin for about anything else and also trying to learn to cut thin stock. Stack cutting is not an option since I only want one of each. I have also been learning some new photography and photo editing skills. From Holiday Ornaments For the Scroll Saw - Rick Longabaugh

  39. Page 22, NOEL with a snowflake in the O. The Materials and Tools note says to use a #5 blade on the snowflake and the snowflake is not removable, it's anchored in 4 spots. I realize my skills are not yet up to doing the snowflake but even if they were, I don't think I could do this with a #5 blade, maybe a #1? I just can't wrap my head around a #5 blade here. What is your opinion on it? I would post a picture but I'm not sure of the copyright rules. Opinions on the this too.
    1 point
  40. I have now made three of them. I cut them out of 1/2 inch curly maple. Honestly I never look at the blade recommendations, after about 13 years of scrolling I have my go to blades . I agree a#5 is a bit big but I tend to use much smaller blades than most. For this I used an Olson Mach 3 blade for almost all of it. I thought that the snowflake would look better if it stood proud of the rest of it. So when I was all done cutting I set my table to 3.5 -4 deg left side down and with an Olson #2 blade cut the 4 points connecting the snow flake. I put a small mark at the top of the snowflake (on the back) to maintain the orientation. Withe a bit of wood glue at the 4 points I pushed the snowflake back in. I also put a few drops Of thick CA glue from the back in several places for additional strength. The image with arrows shows direction of cut so that the snow flake stands proud. Also this picture was taken before I removed a bit of glue squeeze out.
