  1. I thought it was about time I showed this one on here. Thanks to Frank for helping me out greatly. used recycled oak. Hard and dry as nails so it taught me patience that I didn’t know I had.

    Christmas In Heaven

I have cut several of these and used a laser engraver for the text. Nothing very intricate but a very meaningful item.

I made these for my granddaughters for Xmas. A big Thank you to grandpa - Paul for making the pattern for me. I changed it in a couple of spots, hope I did it justice.

  4. I recently finished these portraits and frames for my girlfriend and her family. She lost both her Grandmas within 6 weeks of each other this year. I’ve stack cut 2 sets of 3 of one pattern and a set of 5 of the other and laser engraved the back of each frame. A big thank you to Paul @grampa for the pattern making. Thank you very much. Merry Christmas everyone.

    Canary wood and alder

Ron Johnson has a game in Bragging Rights using Canary wood. I’ve made a few birdhouse ornaments with Canary and the wood sure is beautiful and easy to work with. Also seems like you don’t need to put a finish on it. I’ve had a board for over 10 years and it looks as fresh as the ornament that I just finished. Also, I had a 2x8x12 piece of alder lying around. I’ve never used alder and find that it’s easy to work with and in my opinion, very pretty in a plain sort of way. I made a Penny Drop game using the bandsaw box method, finished with a few coats of shellac. If there is anyone looking for different woods, these two are certainly worth a try.

  10. My goal is to create a plaque that 1)holds and protects an 8 inch silicon wafer. It is like a thin sheet of glass. 2) Has Co-workers name with a title of Technical Product Lead "TPL". project in work... All wood shown is Myrtle also known as pepper wood. Our project name has "pepper" in its name. 2 pics shows the un-stained full concept. Notice top portion of pic shows the pattern and concept. Kinda a saturn ring the label TPL. Yes this is a play on letters "JPL". 2 moons symbolize his two Jr engineers. When this guy holds his weekly meetings he has a calming effect of the whole team. He really deserves recognition. His background on his computer shows space pictures. next 2 pics shows stained plaque and contrast of his name letters. I will be pouring polyester resin over the whole 8 inch wafer. Also the moons will have cut wafer material cover with resin. My last progress was Dec 18th. I got an unwanted b-day present that paused my progress. I like the font choice but when choosing a font, I forgot to think about angle cuts. See last picture. This small thin piece of wood was a concern but overall it came out great. Need to make BB plywood backer, glue letters in, seal and finish boards. Then add wafer material and pour polyester resin. If there is any cool things I can do before finishing it I would love ideas.

    Trucks

The trucks are almost done, a final sand, and finish. The best part is they roll straight with the trailer!

  15. This little guy started life as a Sue Mey pattern, number NW4195 JOY GNOME I cut a tree about 1/8 inch larger than the original pattern to place behind the Gnome tree, and then I glued on a piece of silver glitter paper. I then decided to make our little friend 2 dimentional buy putting a second layer of wood on the hat, gloves, and shoes. I finished it off with a string of "Rice Lites" that I bought on AMAZON, I used hot glue to keep them in place, turned on the switch and viloa. So, Ann Marie decided that he should be on smething seasonal and off to her quilting room she went, you can see the results, it looked great. Well Ann Marie showed it to one her friends, and it sold on the spot. I'm trying to finish another one quickly, because we are hosting all the little ones for a Christmas Party on Sunday afternoon and we know they will get a big kick out of them. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my VILLAGE family. Hopefully, you will get the chance to share some times with the ones you love. Rick

  16. I made this for a different granddaughter and must admit I love it! I can't stop playing with it! Simple but very entertaining! ( my wife is playing with it for the video, she is not my granddaughter!) I got this one from a book, but Steve Good also has an acrobat pattern. acrobat.mp4

  17. I have used alder on some intarsia pieces and liked the look of it. But I thought it had a outhouse smell to it when I was cutting.

  29. Here is my new set of geometric patterns with spherical effect, each consists of 3 layers, size 7x7 inches, I recommend to use different types of wood or stains, it adds a good deapth effect with spherical geometry. The first layer is quite fragile, so it could be a challange. Patterns - https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

  33. I saw it. Way too basic. The Rothman book has everything I need in it as it turns out. Seems those bows are a common design and used by others too. That is where I needed the pattern. Boxes, heck I make those in my sleep. I am hoping to carve out some time to make a variety of different boxes both scrollsawn and maybe turning a few also after I get some more pens done. Right now I am in a pen making groove with so many new ideas in my head. just the nature of the way I work. Thanks.
