  2. My foot switch died a couple weeks ago, I can't scroll saw without it, I like to have 2 hands on my work at all times, I was ready to go back to Harbor Freight to purchase a new one ($14.99), but thought I should at least take the old one apart to take a look, to my amazement it was very dirty & full of cobwebs, after fiddling with the wires inside IT NOW WORKS!! The circuitry is very simple inside. I have the monetary foot switch which is pushing 10yrs old. I saved myself $15 bucks. God Bless Smitty 414600630_7106656149427181_4132962418010634119_n.mp4

  3. This is definitely on my top portraits. I play and sing several John Prine songs so I am keeping this one and putting it on my music wall. The piece is poplar planed down to 1//2”. The frame I wanted to make as unique as John Prine himself so I used 1-1/4 maple butcher block counter top.

    Carved Fretwork Cat

Well, it's probably been two years since I posted anything I made. This is a pattern from Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts, Fall 2008. Since day the day I received the magazine I said I was going to try this pattern. Let's see, that's 2023 minus 2008, subtract, carry the 1, about 15 years ago. Dick Miraglia was featured in that issue and did a fine job explaining the steps. I was a little hesitant about some of the steps but decided I could always use the firewood if it doesn't work out. Grabbed a maple slab, cut to size, used a trim router to lower the perimeter, then the fun started. The scrolling was straightforward but the maple made is slower than I'm use to. The trickiest part was carving/shaping the face. Not too bad, but I'd tackle it a bit different next time. The detailing was fast and fun. A big shout to @dickmira for the great article. I'll be doing some others as soon as I create some patterns. Cheer everyone!

I had an idea this morning. Good use for small cut offs. Since I have been making so many projects with little books in them.

I have cut several of these and used a laser engraver for the text. Nothing very intricate but a very meaningful item.

I gave it a try also but was not very happy with how it turned out. Was an interesting and different concept and just may give it another effort later on, who knows. Yours came out quite nice. Congratulations to you Dick heppnerguy

  19. Over 75 years ago, my dad made simple wood blocks. We would build towers up to the ceiling. These blocks are in our back closet and now the great grandkids play with them. What a joy.

  26. Yes, it's called a "dead man" switch. Because if you die while at your saw, you're foot will more than likely slide off the switch and turn off whatever machine you are operating. Works great around explosives too. If you have a TNT vest wrapped around you and you take your thumb off the button, "DEAD MAN"!

  27. Ray, thanks so much ...just one question... is it the type that to keep it on, you keep your foot on it, and as soon as you take your foot off, it turns off? (Did I use too many commas?)

  28. I'd love to find a latch switch that size. The swithch that came with my Hegner was and I did like it more then the thicker switches from HF.

    cutting with acrylic ?

That's what I thought when I first cut acrylic sheets. Not the case. Probably not enough adhesive on the paper covering. Slowing the balde helped some but not enough to keep things from gluing back together. I put clear packing tape over the cut lines and had no melting. I can't remember what blades I used but it was before I started using Pegus blades.

  33. It has been a couple of years since I cut acrylic, but when I did, I cut it with the plastic sheet that came on it and was happy with the results, i.e. it protected the acrylic from scratches.

  34. I'm curious. Most plastic sheet material comes with a paper covering to protect it from scratches. I've always presumed that the adhesive in that paper acts in much the same way as masking or packing tape. Thoughts?

  36. Managed to get something completed for once: Fairly happy with the outcome, considering this is basically my second project, first involving any kind of more intricate fretwork. It’s not as clean as I’d like it to be but it looks okay from a distance. Not sure whether it needs a finish or not? It’ll probably be hanging on a wall so barely any touching or such. Maybe a clear coat of spray varnish? I do also have boiled linseed oil available…

    Can't Waste Wood...

I had a few scraps of Wenge that were cupped so I glued and clamped them together to form a thicker and flat board to use for a project. My next door neighbors of 23 years always talked of moving to Florida and they finally did recently so I wanted to make something for them. Scrolled some lettering and made a Florida theme easel back plaque. Took awhile to find images I liked of the flip flops and palm tree and size them to what worked and even more fun to scroll the little things and get them painted. I'm hoping they like it when I give it to them the next time they are here.

The trucks are almost done, a final sand, and finish. The best part is they roll straight with the trailer!
