My Little Contribution
heppnerguy and 11 others reacted to Scrappile for a topic
My little contribution for Christmas Dinner. Spent Christmas at my daughter's. It was great first time in about five years. She asked me to cut some napkin rings for the dinner. So at her request I did Mr and Mrs Kringle. Which is a Diana Thompson pattern. I cut them sanded them but they had to paint them. I am just to shakey anymore.12 points -

I had enough window frame molding to make another box. I had stack cut the rose pattern so I needed to put this somewhere also. I did amp it up by scrolling a pattern on the sides. They sort of disapeared once I started spray painting the black lacquer so my wife gold painted around the pattern along with the feet. There are probably 10 coats of lacquer on the top. It goes down fast and dries fast and I started wet sanding after 5 coats each coat. It came out very deep and shiny. The trick is to progressively go to a finer sand paper and to make sure there are no shiny parts between each coat. Amazing how hard lacquer gets.4 points

Paisley Rabbit intarsia
Tbow388 and 2 others reacted to Montserrat for a topic
My labor of love. From a children’s book. With permission of the illustrator to make one item and not sell it. I started on November 22nd and put the first oil on December 28 . The center panel behind the window frame is decoupage from the original illustration our esteemed colleagues in The intarsia forum suggested I post in bragging as well. Apologies for double posting.3 points -

It takes a Village to make a great dust collection system
Jim McDonald and one other reacted to MarieC for a topic
A while back Paul @Scrappile posted some info on his dust collection system and many folks from the village responded. So I decided to set up one for my saw as well. I have a very large noisy dust collector which I use for my large equipment but I wanted something quieter while I scroll saw. I bought the Dewalt Stealth (really quiet) shopvac and set it 20' away from my little workshop room (located in our Orchard Building). I then hooked up the locline suction tube Paul suggested and purchased the bottom attachement from @James E. Welch https://bigriverwares.etsy.com/listing/1497458276 and hooked that up as @rafairchild2 described using dust gates as a "throttle" to decrease the suction to just what I needed. Then I took @Rolf cool collecting catch system and added it... so If I had a piece that was sucked up it would land in my catch container. I didn't have a container like his, so I took an OXO storage container from my kitchen (it held coffee beans) and drilled 2 1/2" holes in both sides and used it as my collection container with a screen over one side. I also added a "Y" where it came out of the wall so I could add a vacuum hose for clean up in my shop. Wow! it really works great. I used to use a small paint brush to remove some of the sawdust and now I don't need it. I also have virtually no dust on the floor anymore.... Thank you Village People for all your help!2 points -

Harbor Freight Foot Switch
Juan Rodriguez and one other reacted to smitty0312 for a topic
My foot switch died a couple weeks ago, I can't scroll saw without it, I like to have 2 hands on my work at all times, I was ready to go back to Harbor Freight to purchase a new one ($14.99), but thought I should at least take the old one apart to take a look, to my amazement it was very dirty & full of cobwebs, after fiddling with the wires inside IT NOW WORKS!! The circuitry is very simple inside. I have the monetary foot switch which is pushing 10yrs old. I saved myself $15 bucks. Doll furniture
Alexander Fadeev reacted to rdatelle for a topic
Hi everyone. Just finished these pieces. Still have one more chair to make out of Oak. I ran out so I had to order more. The table and chairs are a Steve Good Pattern and the doll swing is from Berry basket. The swing is about two feet tall and made out of pine. The table is made out of Walnut and chair is Oak. I'm not sure if I want to leave them plain or just give them a coat of Mineral oil. There for my three Granddaughters ages 4, 5 and 8. I really don't want to varnish them Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks Ralph!1 point -

Hey everyone! It's been a while and I'm glad to see some familiar names and a whole bunch of new ones! A couple of months ago I had a dog related retail shop reach out to me asking if I'd be interested in displaying some of my items for sale. I was very upfront with her, told that I've done it 3 times before and it simply didn't work out. Apparently my sales pitch and charm are what sell them at craft events. Seriously, in retail stores they've never done well. The puzzles need to be shrink wrapped so that pieces don't get scattered around and folks don't grasp and comprehend the concept of them. But... this time, some mild success as she has sold about 8 or 9 puzzles and a leash rack or two in the past month with holiday shoppers. Considering I sell 40-50 or more at a 1 day craft event, I won't be giving up that part of my fun. LOL I hope everyone is doing well, especially my beloved Puzzle Zombies.1 point

For the faces they used those paint pens. Made it a lot easier for them. I may have to get some. I got a request for one of my 3D Christmas Nutcracker, maybe I could do a better job one the face with the pens.1 point -
Great job Paul. I wouldn't be able to paint them either. LOL1 point

It takes a Village to make a great dust collection system
danny reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
Yes, I have the prototype as I was the first one James sent it to. When I am running with my bottom "throttle" at least 50% I get nearly zero dust. I have a small throw/catch box under the opening, resting between the table legs, below my knees that catches some of the larger 'chunks' that drop (and I pitch castoffs) or are not sucked up by the top vac. I also find with the top vac, I really do not need the 'puffer' either.1 point -
That is a terrific idea. Well made too as always. Marg1 point

I'd advise you to still wear your mask. The stuff you can't see would anaze you. I have dust control and an overhead air cleaner and I still wear my mask.1 point

I have almost no dust under my scroll saw after sawing for 4 hours today. There are a few little pieces but the dust seems to be picked up by the top and/or bottom dust ports. Usually I have a pile of dust under my saw and everywhere else. The other thing I noticed is I can now saw without a mask on. I usually have sinus problems when sawing. Saying that, I will still wear a mask when I saw walnut or any of the exotic woods since I just want to be careful. I believe @rafairchild2 has been using this dust port for a while and he might have more information about how it has worked for him.1 point

Beautifully done Matt! Did you cut the words out individually and glue them to the backer? Proverbs 3:3-4: I had to look it up, do not know the Bible from memory.1 point

Latest Projects - Scroll Saw Challenge
Peter Lampman reacted to alexiv11 for a topic
Good afternoon everyone. My name is Alex. We are a family of refugees from Ukraine. In Ukraine, my hobby was carpentry. I also kept bees. I really wanted to make something for the house in the shape of a hexagon like a honeycomb. I decided to make a watch. My family really liked this clock; it set the style in our kitchen. When we were getting ready to leave Ukraine, my wife wanted to take them with us as souvenirs. I told her that she didn’t need to do this. I'll try to make the same ones in the new place. We didn't know then where we would end up. With God's help we ended up in Quebec. I recently made a clock and it reminds us of our home in Ukraine, as if we were at home.1 point
