    another memorial plaque

A friend of ours lost her son about a month ago and I made her a plaque and then she lost her daughter last week. They both had the same health problems. So sad. I hope the plaque help her a little as she heals from all her loss. Dick heppnerguy

  4. I stepped way out of the box for a Valentine's project requested by my church to honor all the members for contributions they made throughout last year. So I made these signs painted onto 3' x 2' canvases.

  5. I created a slideshow of the Favorite Projects Scroll Saw Challenge. It's kinda fun to see. I wouldn't mind doing this for the new scroll saw challenges. It's a lot of work, though. Anyway, feel free to share it on your social media. It's fun to show to friends and family. Enjoy!

    Lego Man display

Two of my grandsons are really into Legos so I built two of these Lego Man displays. I loved doing it for them but this would be a good job for a CNC machine. It's amazing how diverse Legos have become over the years. My wife and daughter both have Lego flower arrangements.

    Difficult plywood

I read, somewhere, to rest your wrists on the table. Kinda forces you to relax the arms. I will stop to drop my shoulders when I notice them creeping up. To me, it means I am holding the wood to tight!

    Lego Man display

Wish it was my idea. My daughter found them for sale online somewhere and I copied their design. I think I had around $40 each in them and they sell on Etsy for $50 made of unfinished MDF cut with CNC. I agree, in the right location they would probably sell very well, just not ideal for scroll saw work. Still, a great project for grandkids.

    Scramble Time

Hi All, The last 2 years have been a bit rough, a lot going on in my personal life, but I'm about to jump back into things in a big way. I found out Saturday that I was accepted to a mega-event (Merlefest)... it's a 4 day music festival with a hundred or so craft vendors. I've had friends tell me I need to sign up for it and now that I live closer to it, I did. My last event was in September and it was my best 1 day event ever. My inventory is depleted and now I need to focus on making at least 500 puzzles in the next 11 weeks to be prepared for it. I'm diving in and got my first 25 or so puzzles cut of display items that I sold at my last event. After I get caught up on display items I'll begin working on duplicates of all of the most popular items. I also ordered a Seyco saw and look forward to receiving it in the coming weeks. Iggy

    Cats

Thanks @Foxfold for the pattern! I reduced it, which meant there was a "design" choice made while cutting. This was done as a quick cut instead of working on my tulips project because I received my Pegas blade chuck in the mail. This is about 7/8 thick walnut. Cut with #5 precision skip. One coat if shellac. There are some other issues but hubby didn't see them and they can't be seen from the front.

  12. That's true...to a point. I've been scrolling for almost 30 years. I don't consider myself a "fast" scroller. It simply is a metric that means very little to me, most of the time. I'll change speeds during a cut. I'll speed up when I'm cutting a long, smooth line. I'll slow down when I'm in very delicate and intricate areas of a pattern. It's more about control than speed.

    Acrylic 2.0

I'm trying something different by incorporating color thru the use of acrylic in my projects. Based on the cross I did I decided to try something I did years ago, just "amp" it up a bit. This time I used ⅛ ply, stained one side while leaving the other natural. It's a learning curve for sure, but a fun ride none the less. The first frog is the "original " cut in 2007. I'm not entirely happy with the eye, but it's all part of learning.

    leaving a legacy?

That is a good one! And to me. turning 80 is short order. A good subject. I have no idea what my kids/grandkids will have or care to have for remembering me. I have several boxes of projects but who knows if or what any of them will want. And really, does it matter as long as they remember me and say "he" /me was a wood worker? Maybe if I am lucky they will throw in " He was a good woodworker. I will smile from wherever I am!

    Boat in a ships wheel

A woman in town asked me if I could/would try to finish up a project her husband started but passed away to cancer before he could finish it. I finally got it finished this evening. Here are the before and after pic. I did not make the wheel just finish it of best I could. Paint it and cut out the boat parts to put on it. I cut pieces and filled in the open spots on the back to make look better. And thanks to grampa Paul for doing the boat pattern for me greatly appreciated. Todd

  28. This was a custom order and I enjoy the end result more than the cutting but at the end of the year it was my favorite. Coming close second was this charcuterie board

  29. I'm going to cheat a little on this reply This was not done last year but rather 38+ years ago after I started this great hobby I may be off topic a bit, so I apologize for that When I came out of rehab(drugs and alcohol, the good old days) I needed something to keep me busy Long story short, I found a scrollsaw which I knew nothing about and bought it when I saw that the pattern book had Christmas ornaments. I'll make some ornaments, have my son and daughter paint them. Then I saw this little guy and just had to try and cut him out of wood. He's precious to me and it was a great moment when I finished him. (see the pun there....LOL) So, he's sitting there as I was one day, wondering if I made the right decision with rehab and this life changing time for me, my wife, my kids, my job, friends... Well, I can honestly say that this little guy and I both agree that it was and has been the best decision I ever made in my life. 38 +years sober and drug free and it hasn't been all that bad. Still married to a wonderful girl who could have easily walked away but she never did.

  31. I am way too far past this. I started 35+ years ago as a woodworker/scroller I was always interested in making things with my hands and working with my hands. Probably why I got into construction and worked as an electrician for 43 years. Worked with my Dad when I was 7 helping him restore our house and add a set of dormers on to provide for us kids. From then on I had the bug. I learned so much from him as I grew up. I always said if we had the tools that I have now back then we could have finished a lot quicker. But it made me appreciate what I have now. I use to go to many craft shows just to look at what people created with their hands and minds and that always fascinated me. Met a few scrollers and from there on I was hooked. It happened again about 15 years ago when I got into turning and another hobby was born. Have no photos of yesteryears and everyone has seen my latest napkin holders. That was the last scrolling project I did last year.

  32. I began scrolling back in 98 and my first project was a Christmas scene for my mother. I recall looking at a 16” scroll saw at Sears, purchased it and from there been hooked. My last project posted was a portrait of a Ducenberg.

  34. I got my 1st scrollsaw from Aldi's just over a year ago as I thought it might be interesting to try something new in my retirement. I was quite happy with it for a month or so then I discovered this forum and that was it. After seeing some of the amazing things that people cut on here, I bought a new saw and I've gone from silhouettes and simple cut outs to my beloved Gorilla. I would never have imagined in a lifetime that I could do something like this. I'm totally addicted.

  35. I’ve posted these before so I guess these will look familiar to some. That deer really needs some help! I think I cut it around 2011, which is when I first started scrolling. The Sue Mey nativity scene was cut just before Christmas.

Tried resting the wrists and that was helpful, thanks. Right now it's a little uncomfortably cold in my garage and that cast iron table is a bit frigid
