I haven't posted in some time with new projects because I've been busy working on commissions. I thought I'd post some of them to give you a "look-see." The Porsche was actually three photos I combined into the one piece. The K-9 was with a local police department and passed away. The plaque was a presentation to the handler. The three dogs together are my fur babies (not counting the new puppy I got the wife for Christmas) I'll post patterns of the Border Collie and Lab in the library. Those were 'free to use' photographs that I made patterns from at the request of the customer. If you have any questions about any of the pieces, please let me know. Hope you enjoy!

  2. Found these three saying while browsing Facebook. Thought I would share in case someone could make use of them. First one would be great for the laundry room. The second one is just too funny and the third one is also super funny.

I have one picked out but haven't started it yet. I always wait till the last minute because I like the whooshing sound of deadlines as they fly by. Tom

The puppy, Chip (as in Chocolate Chip Cookie), is only 4-months right now and is all legs and puppy fuzz. He's a Papillon so I'm going to wait for the adult hair to come in and to fill out a little.

  9. Ok, here is a project for those who like large…in this case around 750 holes…fretwork type patterns. I had been looking for a long time for an image of a Red Fox (face) that I could convert into a scrollable pattern. There are lots of Fox Images available on-line, but Inkscape cannot deal with the subtle differences in color changes or lack of strong edge definitions found in most of the images. I finally found and procured a stock pencil drawing image that Inkscape’s ‘Trace Bitmap’ command was able to manage, and I was then able to clean-up the trace into a scrollable 11x14 inch pattern. Inkscape was able to replicate the individual pencil strokes creating a pattern with tightly grouped, long thin cut-outs as well as many, small, short cut-outs scattered throughout the pattern. I will post the pattern for the interested in Pattern Exchange. And, just for information purposes, for this cutting I was curious to see how long the saw run time verses my total sit-down saw time would be. At the end of the cutting, my saw run time meter read 5 hrs and 44 minutes. My sit-down time was about 12-14 hours over five days. The eye strain resulting from trying to keep the Pegas #2/0 spiral saw blade within the narrow cut-outs would not let me work more than a couple of hours each day. The cut panel is 5/32” thick Birch solid core ply and the backer is 1/4"thick BB ply painted Black. The pencil drawing was a remarkably close pose to the various color images I found, so I was able to use them to guide my choice of colors for my Artist Acrylic Air Brush work. The assembled panel was protected with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Acrylic. And, once again I made a simple, 1 3/4” wide rail, Poplar Frame that I finished with multiple coats of Black Lacquer. Comments and critiques always welcome.

    A cute little angel

I use my router table for all my router jobs. It is the only way I feel really comfortable using a router. Dick heppnerguy

  17. Here’s an older one I did for hubby one year. It’s a Steve Good compound cut pattern. You can find it on his blog here: https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2012/10/this-is-pattern-i-used-in-yesterdays.html Looks like he has a newer one with more words (Love you to Pieces) that he shared last year just before Valentine’s Day. It can be found here on his blog: https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/search?q=Love+you+compound

Thanks Marg, they have lived together for about 15 years so I don't see why they're getting married now.

    Difficult plywood

I agree with Ray.. and I've been messing with inkscape since around 2008 ish.. Only started getting better at it because having a laser and CNC you can't just print a pattern or modify one by taping several pieces of paper together to create a custom pattern like I used to do back in the day. These machines do whatever the file / drawing shows.. no modifying it as you cut.. LOL so I'm slowly getting better with that program.. BTW.. I've had these machines since 2018 and still barely know that program even though I have to do it and figure it out.

  24. I am part of the Herb Society of America and we love hummingbirds. I made a hummingbird plaque for the outgoing president. I enjoy segmentation and working with various types of wood stack-cutting. Hopefully it is a gift she will cherish for years to come.

    Motor in rear

Well now you are changing the question... I did not read on here that any of the saws change how good of a scroller you are, that is talent, practice, patience, and perseverance. No matter where the motor is placed on the saw. I'm not even sure you asked the question you were looking for an answer to.

    Motor in rear

Thx for all this info and input, but all in all the I feel the scroll saw doesn't make the scroller. You could have an expensive saw, hawk or hegner, and be good, but someone else with a dewalt will be a better scroller, its the talent of the person scroll sawing, RJ
