    Small gift fret boxes

Wanted to make some small gift boxes and ordered some mahogony. 6 each 24 x 4" 1/8" boards (should have ordered 5-6" wide boards to better fit pattern). Stack cut 2 at a time. finish with gloss laquer. I had done the 2 center boxes with bubinga wood previously but it is getting very expensive. (twice as expensive as mahogony) Fun cutting.

    Idaho plaque

Just finished this one. Idaho plaque, pattern by BoB scroll . Wood is a repurposed plaque ( 6" X 23" ) from a thrift store, 3/4 pine; blades FD Polar #1 throughout. Second Picture is the piece on the saw with a " 1 2 3 block" as a counterweight, nonslip pad underneath. Started cutting in the center to reduce the weight when I got to the ends.

    Braveheart, again

I cut one like this a few months ago but a dear friend said he'd like to have it so I finally got around to cutting one for myself. The pattern is in the library but I added a bit of detail as I cut it this time.

    Leopard Cubs

Hello all, Here is my latest project, a pair of Leopard cubs. Cut once again from a Bamboo chopping board using a Pegas skip tooth no3 blade. The pattern is by Kenny Hopkins on the Scroll saw village. Thanks for a lovely pattern Kenny, I hope I have done it justice. Regards, Alan.

    Scramble Time

Hi All, The last 2 years have been a bit rough, a lot going on in my personal life, but I'm about to jump back into things in a big way. I found out Saturday that I was accepted to a mega-event (Merlefest)... it's a 4 day music festival with a hundred or so craft vendors. I've had friends tell me I need to sign up for it and now that I live closer to it, I did. My last event was in September and it was my best 1 day event ever. My inventory is depleted and now I need to focus on making at least 500 puzzles in the next 11 weeks to be prepared for it. I'm diving in and got my first 25 or so puzzles cut of display items that I sold at my last event. After I get caught up on display items I'll begin working on duplicates of all of the most popular items. I also ordered a Seyco saw and look forward to receiving it in the coming weeks. Iggy

  10. Ok, here is a project for those who like large…in this case around 750 holes…fretwork type patterns. I had been looking for a long time for an image of a Red Fox (face) that I could convert into a scrollable pattern. There are lots of Fox Images available on-line, but Inkscape cannot deal with the subtle differences in color changes or lack of strong edge definitions found in most of the images. I finally found and procured a stock pencil drawing image that Inkscape’s ‘Trace Bitmap’ command was able to manage, and I was then able to clean-up the trace into a scrollable 11x14 inch pattern. Inkscape was able to replicate the individual pencil strokes creating a pattern with tightly grouped, long thin cut-outs as well as many, small, short cut-outs scattered throughout the pattern. I will post the pattern for the interested in Pattern Exchange. And, just for information purposes, for this cutting I was curious to see how long the saw run time verses my total sit-down saw time would be. At the end of the cutting, my saw run time meter read 5 hrs and 44 minutes. My sit-down time was about 12-14 hours over five days. The eye strain resulting from trying to keep the Pegas #2/0 spiral saw blade within the narrow cut-outs would not let me work more than a couple of hours each day. The cut panel is 5/32” thick Birch solid core ply and the backer is 1/4"thick BB ply painted Black. The pencil drawing was a remarkably close pose to the various color images I found, so I was able to use them to guide my choice of colors for my Artist Acrylic Air Brush work. The assembled panel was protected with multiple coats of Clear Gloss Acrylic. And, once again I made a simple, 1 3/4” wide rail, Poplar Frame that I finished with multiple coats of Black Lacquer. Comments and critiques always welcome.

    Idaho plaque

You could use the plaque as a template and trim the backer with a router with a trim bit. However, because the Plaque is pre painted, I might be inclined to make the backer smaller than the Plaque so the backer edges do not show when hung. To hang I would install two sawtooth hangers, one near each end close to the top. It will hang with out any tipping. Adding shaker pegs would be a nice touch, but not sure what would get hung on them. IMO, jackets or the like would be too heavy. Small fancy hooks might be better for hanging Keys or such. The backer colors sound good, just wondering if they will show enough. Potatoes are brown, aren't they. A simple dark brown might look nice also. These are all just my thoughts. Not trying to tell you what to do.

    Loc Line for dust blower

Well, what I did was fashion a nut out of yellow heart and along with some Goop glued the assembly into the P20. Trying to get that "nut" on then the hose put thru it under that arm was not easy for this guy. But it works and that what counts. I really like my P20, it's just so dang heavy (lol) Thanks for all the suggestions. Chris

I have reported to Inkspace, I noticed on their page that they are experiencing a few problems with the version 1.3.1 and the alignment issue was mention. Thank you for your assistance, it’s truly appreciated.

Looks good but it should be easy to align and distribute. There are lots of videos on this from years ago. Here is one https://youtu.be/MNgjZDkQW1w?si=kddiK7YOSBolxtHy If still not working I would report to Inkscape. They have a forum and a bug report.

So after a lot of fiddling I think I got it right, I still can’t get the align & distribute to work correctly, so I had to align them manually using the rulers which is not ideal. I really don’t know where the problem lies, I’m at wits end because something that should not have me more than a hour has take me 1/12 days. Adding to my frustration we have load shedding and are without power for 11.5 hours a day. So when do have power it’s a big scramble to get batteries charged and do things that you need to do when you do have power. So I have attached my attempt it may not be perfect but at least I got it done and I happy with the result despite all the software problems. Thank you so much for your help, I have to now try and resolve the software issue before I can carry on with the course.

For some reason the stars are grouped together with 2 gray boxes and a red one. If ungroup 3 times (ctrl-shift-g) you will end up with all the stars as individual objects. Delete theboxes and you can lasso the 7 at the top and centre align and the distribute with equal horizontal. Continue as per Travis's video. I hope that makes sense. Any more questions let me know. 39. Here’s an older one I did for hubby one year. It’s a Steve Good compound cut pattern. You can find it on his blog here: https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2012/10/this-is-pattern-i-used-in-yesterdays.html Looks like he has a newer one with more words (Love you to Pieces) that he shared last year just before Valentine’s Day. It can be found here on his blog: https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/search?q=Love+you+compound

  43. I stepped way out of the box for a Valentine's project requested by my church to honor all the members for contributions they made throughout last year. So I made these signs painted onto 3' x 2' canvases.

  44. For me personally, I have never found the slowest speed on my grinder to be too fast as I did on the Guinevere. However, I have found the ability to adjust my speed up or down as I can with a variable speed versus a one speed only grinder to be beneficial. Just as with my scroll saw, I find it good to be able to adjust my speed depending on the project. Sometimes I need to cut slower, sometimes I can bump up the speed, it depends on the type of project, it’s detail, the wood being used, how thick, etc.
