    Man in the Moon

Finished another intarsia piece. I am so glad that patterns are just suggestions!!! This pattern came from the SSWC #71. This is mostly poplar. The eye has some walnut & two other mystery woods. The lips are two separate mystery woods. Finished with one coat of shellac then topped with the beeswax butter! The Poplar is from the stuff I bought this spring and had cupped. The tips of the moon are on the cupped edge, but I thought it worked with the moon. I really liked the grey markings in the wood.

    Wall art

Some wall art husband and I made from the floating shelves, to the wood turnings, to the scroll sawed pieces.

    Corgi Portrait done

With the help of @grampa, I finally finished the Corgi portrait that he made from a picture I posted. Thanks so much. I used a #2 and #3 spiral blade to cut this one out. Just need to put some danish oil on and it's ready for its new home.

  4. I had hoped this piece of Cedar was the right wood but did not turn out like I had hoped.....Working on a 2nd one on Adler wood...I really liked Charlie's pattern and wanted to do it justice..Thanks for looking. Steve,

  5. Probably the first movie to show me that I have absolutely no business in prison. If interested, the pattern is in the library.

  6. On this one I embedded a magnet on the left side so I could add the arrow. This would be helpful if you would be playing someone who is absent so they know it is their move.

    I'm calling it done!

Another SG pattern finished... Didn't want to add any wood to the back for a hanger and take away from the clean lines. Couldn't be free standing since it was front heavy. So, I glued black felt to the back (Glue stick) found the easel back of an old picture frame, cut it to fit the back and used double stick tape to mount it. Not unique or high tech but it is what it is...

  8. I was just excited to get the replacement part (motor to arm connector rod) for my Hegner Multimax V-22 and ready for some work. A niece had a birthday pending and I wanted to get something special done for her. She loves the shore and ocean, so found this pattern from Steve Good's site. I have a tendency to jump into things whole hog and this really did test and develop my skills in a hurry (first scroll saw project). Was especially worried as I used a plank of Lowe's 1/4" birch ply and some practice cuts on a hummingbird pattern had me wondering if the top piece was going to explode on me. Went through 2 dozen Advanced Machinery #3 reverse double tooth blades on the two top layers. Used up a few #5's on the easy third layer. Simple spray on coat of Watco lacquer. Pretty sure I went through most of those blades because of the slow pace of my cutting. Think I spent about 8 hours on the top piece. I think spiral blades may have been more appropriate, but I ain't there yet.

    Commissions

I haven't posted in some time with new projects because I've been busy working on commissions. I thought I'd post some of them to give you a "look-see." The Porsche was actually three photos I combined into the one piece. The K-9 was with a local police department and passed away. The plaque was a presentation to the handler. The three dogs together are my fur babies (not counting the new puppy I got the wife for Christmas) I'll post patterns of the Border Collie and Lab in the library. Those were 'free to use' photographs that I made patterns from at the request of the customer. If you have any questions about any of the pieces, please let me know. Hope you enjoy!

  10. How fast you can make a project only really matters in two scenarios. 1. The customer is paying by the hour and you already told them it would take 2 hours. 2. The wife comes into the shop and tells you the Smith’s are coming over tonight and we need to give them a Christmas gift. BEEN THERE!

  11. It's been hard to get motivated to get in the garage workshop to work on anything lately. So I printed out a few patterns and psyched myself up to get off my butt and do something constructive... Unfortunately the temp in the garage was a little chilly. Even though I could fire up the heater and get the air temp up to almost tolerable, I'm not wearing gloves on that cast iron scroll saw table... Oh well!

  12. Wow, bet you are anxious to get started on that gem... I'm looking forward to 65 degrees but hardly do anything outside except maybe some sanding.

  13. Wondering how you were doing on that project. Did you find all the equipment you needed?

  14. I definitely don't blame you one bit. At 65 degrees, if there is a whisper of wind, I find it difficult to go outdoors and set up my tablesaw. That's my next thing, to cut some plywood down to size to start on the peacock table lamp that Berndt Munzieb sent me the plans for.

    I'm calling it done!

You nailed it! I've cut that one also and used a green piece of felt as a backer for contrast.

  23. When my daughter saw the first one I made she mentioned that it would be a great graduation gift for my grandson. He will be going off to college and he could put it up in his dorm room and play his roommate as they came and went. That's what rang my bell.

beautiful work, looks great and very nicely cut too. I also like your idea of using black felt for a backer.

  26. Beautiful and I like the arrow. The first time you made one I thought it would be fun to have up and play over a period of time so that's a great idea!

    Difficult plywood

I find there are HUGE differences in BB plywood or what be call it. I always buy the stuff in 5x5 sheets or from a place I know sells the real thing.

  32. I was reading on another online forum and came across this video link. I watched it and found that it might come in very handy at some point. I hope you get something from it. I know I did.

  33. I just checked the FB account. The gentleman is having FB issues, surprise, no surprise. The original page "A saw subject" is still up. the new one with the brand name has been taken down by FB ( he is not Hegner, so it violates the "rules" ).
