Taking advantage of warmer garage shop
Norm Fengstad and 7 others reacted to jimmyG for a topic
Well the weather finally got past fifty the last few days so I had to take advantage of it and get into the workshop to scroll. Too bad I didn't realize the rectangular hole in the base pattern was too big for the project before I cut it. After modifying the size, cutting it again, and spouting some choice words I finished it up...8 points -

Using 1/16" blade with a Carter Stabilizer
Scrappile and 6 others reacted to Juan Rodriguez for a topic
I have a 14" Grizzly band saw. I installed a Carte Stabilizer(CS)) on it. I was watching Jeff Vollmer's videos where he was cutting boxes and puzzles using a 1/16" blade. And wondered if I could run a 1/16" blade with a CS? So I decided to experiment... The blades are hard to find because of the size. I found out that Pegas makes the blades and called Bearwoods Supply, a distributor for Pegas. I spoke to the rep. who was very helpful and informative and ordered the blade (#14). The blade appears to be 931/2" in length. It fitted well on the groove of the CS with the teeth of the blade clearing the groove. My first cut was a large puzzle. The cut was very clean and smooth (not as smooth as a scroll saw blade). I was very happy with the results, it was fast and accurate. I plan to use this method to cut the outside perimeter of the puzzles and cut the intricate parts of the puzzles with a scroll saw blade to save time. I also plan to use this method for cutting boxes.7 points -
A couple of photos, and a donation to the local PD SVU (Lot's of photos)
Fish and 3 others reacted to rafairchild2 for a topic
Hi folks... It's been a while since posting on SSV, as I have been busy at my day job, and also spending a lot of hours in the workshop. Yesterday, I dropped off an assortment of 10 wooden toys to the VA Beach PD. This is the first batch of many that will go to them. The first image are the 10 toys 'curing'. I finished them in raw linseed oil. They will be used by the SVU when they come in contact with children. Kind of sobering in one way. The second photo is the box I deliver them in (no used Amazon boxes ) I am waiting to hear from two other PDs and a hospital. I have another 10 ready to be boxed for whoever asks. The Hippo is a gift for my grandson who turned 1 yesterday. I also gave him the completed Noah's Ark made out of 12 species of wood. The Hedgehog, goes to my 'rent-a-son's' newborn daughter along with a 12 species puzzle. I also included some photos of some of the other things in various stages of production, a lot in dry fit stage. I actually just finished cutting out the Cow/farm piece, it is 5 layers. I did it as a quad stack, so I produced 4 at the same time. It is in dry fit stage, now comes sanding, painting, then glue up. So much to be finished. This is my box before I started the linseed process. I counted this morning, and I have about 30 toys, ready for drilling, sanding, profiling, and wheels. Some get linseed, some do not.4 points -

Scrappile, I had the same sentiments. I was able to find one at Circle Saw Builders Supply in Houston, TX for less and the shipping was around $7.00.2 points -

Using 1/16" blade with a Carter Stabilizer
OCtoolguy reacted to Juan Rodriguez for a topic
I really don't know. But is wide and deep enough to accommodate the 1/16" blade. You can call Carter Products and they will tell you the exact measurements.1 point -

I have looked at the CS and other Carter products many times. I think I would use my bandsaw more if I had them, but I just can not bring myself to spend the money. Thanks for the info.1 point -

Springtime Bird Scene, Scroll Saw Project Video
Norm Fengstad reacted to artisanpirate for a topic
Hey Everyone! In this scroll saw project video, we make a cute Springtime Bird Scene designed by Steve Good! The project uses 1/4 inch material and can be finished in a variety of ways! Spring is right around the corner with better weather and longer days! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate1 point -

The problem I had with the pattern design was the bite taken out of the surf board was on the side of the board not where he was being attacked and it was too large. Ive thought about turning the surfer around and have him being chased instead. It's not easy being me..1 point

Here is the one I made for my wife. I made the pattern from a photo on Pinterest. The wood is Eastern Red Cedar, finished with rattle can lacquer. Of course, I got it done the day before Valentine's Day, which is unusual for me, as the finish is usually still drying the morning of Valentine's Day. Tom1 point
