    Guitar Man

I tweaked a great pattern by Sam Custodio. I absolutely love good finger style guitar picking and have tried many times to attain the skill but it's just not in the cards for me. I listened to acoustic guitar music through my headphones while cutting this and it was so therapeutic. The wood is 1/2" Sycamore and the backer was a thin plywood bottom from a repurposed dresser drawer. "♫ Who draws the crowd and plays so loud? Baby it's the guitar man. ♫

  2. Hi everyone, I'm having an operation next week to try to fix this old mans back, Doc says about 4 to 5 weeks before I can go up and down the stairs to my shop. My CEO, COO and everything else in the house reminded me of some gifts I had to complete before my down time, I just wanted to show them to you guys & gals. I won't be able to work, but I will be able to sign on the internet and see what all my friends are working on. I posted this on the other 2 scrolling sites, sorry for the double post. Thanks for looking. Rick

    New chess sets

I used the same design on the chess table and the table top model. The drawer slides all the way through so there is access from both sides. I made a small difference in the pieces.

  7. A modified Steve Good pattern. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood-stained Walnut for the backing. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using mostly Pegas #1 MGT blades, but Pegas #0 Spiral blades around the Elk and Evergreens. A light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac and two coats spray Lacquer Clear Satin with sanding between coats. Comments welcome.

  8. Okay, that is how mine are. I just wanted to double-check that the play was normal. I noticed when I tightened them the motor slowed down, and figured that was not good!

  9. Is it the same volt rating? That is important.

  10. Not the problem. I have been cutting for a long time, I am known for splitting lines, and had cut 3 toys just before things went sideways. I made sure I was not pushing hard as well. Sped up the blade, slowed it down, stopped pushing, and watched the blade... did all sorts of technique things. Nope, this is mechanical/ adjustment.

    Zebra pair

This was a special order from a man whose father and step-mother claimed the zebra as their spirit animal of sorts. Both of these people died and the man that ordered it wants to memorialize his dad and step-mom.

  12. Some time ago in one of the discussions on here about cordless tool batteries someone mentioned you could get adapters to use different brand batteries on your tools. I was a bit skeptical but I finally bought one just to give it a try. I have two of the 20V HF Bauer brand battery packs, both of which are larger amp hour than my DeWalt drill has. I got the adapter in the mail today and it seems to work.. Does get a little sticky with the release button and made from what feels like some cheap plastic but it does work and I think it'll work well for my needs.. We'll see how it holds up for some bigger jobs where I'm using it enough to get the drill motor a little warm.

  14. Maybe we need to start at the beginning of the tune process.. Maybe something has moved out of alignment.. First check the upper arm is parallel to the table top by measuring it ( I like to cut a block of scrap that just fits under the arm and I slide it from the front to the back. ) I think my block is 3 1/4? that just fits, your saw may be different.. One thing that messes with tension on these saws is the threaded rod and or the threaded block that the rod screws into at the back knob on the saw.. The threads wear from the banging they recieve when you lower the upper arm down each time that puts pressure onto those threads and they will wear out over time... the harder you drop the arm down and let it slam to the lower position the harder it is on those threads.. When the threads get worn your saw will lose it's tension just the same way that a slipping blade will do.. you will cuss at the clamps and everything but what the actual problem is, LOL

  15. There is quite a lot of play in both upper and lower clamps and rocker arms in my saws.. There has to be some looseness otherwise it'll put a strain on the motor. Once the tension is on the blade everything should be pretty tight though.

  16. One more thing from me. Try different blades. I have found that the blade that worked for me in the past does not work as good on a current project. Different wood different blades. I have quite a library of blames and I do not hesitate to switch around. In all my years of scrolling, I have never had a "favorite blade". I go through many different types, many different configurations of teeth.

  18. Take a piece of thicker stock scrap and cut into it a short straight line, then spin the piece to the back of the blade.. should slide right into the slot you just cut if the blade is square to the table. Might be a dumb remark here but squares can throw you off sometimes as table tops get worn.. especially those painted table tops like the EX saws have.. could be worn and giving you a false reading. Edit to add: You table doesn't look too worn.. I have seen the dust port holes also give you false readings though.. There are only a handful of things it can be.. I've even had a bad "twisted" blade that was making weird things like this happen.. don't know how it got like that because it was brand new blade.. so if you haven't tried another blade maybe check that. I know you're not new to scrolling so.. Another thing is the actual wood itself. I've also had a piece of cherry wood that gave me fits.. turned out the wood was under some sort of weird tension and moved after being cut.. any other wood I cut was fine.. so it had something to do with the wood itself.

Fine cutting of a beautiful pattern Charlie. I still pick away once a while.

  20. If that being the case can you push on the arms and do they move. Maybe a bearing has worn out but again as the saws moves it should show signs of vibration. I know on the Dewalts the table use to rock. You would see this when you put your weight on one side of the table to the other when shifting your cuts. Maybe look at that. We are all just spitballing here.

  22. My guess is that you are pushing too hard especially for that thick of wood. Cutting thick is a slow process, have to let the blade to the work. It gets boring some times.

    Guitar Man

What a beautiful pattern and cutting. Hubby is a guitarist. He has quite a collection, now about 15 of them. He is now getting into building them. Up to now it has just been kits. Latest one was an acoustic. He was looking over my shoulder when I stopped on this post. He really liked it. Does Sam have a site where the pattern can be obtained? Or would you be willing to share to me as well?

  25. I do not have that saw and no little about it. But you need to look at the action itself. Manually push the arm up and down with the square next to the blade and if the blade moves straight up and down then it is not the saw and it is your pushing technique. At times we get to pushing too hard and you are putting pressure where there should not be. As you are cutting let off from pushing and if your piece walks back to a certain position it tells you that you were doing too much side pressure. It happens to all of us. May have to change the speed of the saw one way or other. Certain woods just cut slower than others. Other than that I can not help.

  33. Very, very nice cutting. Please follow doctors orders. I had back surgery several years ago. The surgery went even better than expected and the hardest part for me was not being able to do much or lift anything over 5 pounds for 6 weeks. I felt great it was so hard to stay down. I really hope yours goes a well.

  38. I wanted issue 159 ( the one with Diana Thompson's awareness angel) and I was able to contact a seller on ebay that had a collection and they split the one off and sold it to me reasonably. 41. Thanks... The choice of painting it black was once again over thought, being I'm such a spazzz. I have to keep reminding myself of the saying "keep it simple stupid" I had a small battery powered turn table and at one time I thought about painting one side black and the other white.

    F-4 Phantom

The Phantom is a large fighter with a top speed of over Mach 2.2. It can carry more than 18,000 pounds of weapons on nine eternal hardpoints, including air-to- air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, and various bombs. The F-4, like other interceptors of its time, was initially designed without an internal cannon. Later models incorporated an M61 Vulcan rotary cannon. Beginning in 1959, it set 15 world records for in-flight performance, including an absolute speed record and an absolute altitude record.

    Name Puzzle

This was a custom order. My daughter's friend was having a baby shower and my daughter is broke. I offered time and materials (cause that's what we do). I gave her a choice of fonts. Thanks @don in brooklin on for the Berlin font. This is what she chose. It is Wondrus from DaFont. I think it might become a fav. This is cut from 1/2" ply with a #7 blade. Acrylic paint with Walrus Oil as a top coat.

    leaving a legacy?

Looking at his thread again I came up with a good idea. My kids and grandkids have always told me about the big bond fire they are going to have to get rid of all the things I have made that no one wants. I think I will come up with the ugliest thing I can find, make one for each package it up with a do not open until after I am in the ground... there will be a note with the ugly project that says if they do not hang it on a wall and leave it there forever I will come back and make their lives miserable. Hide thing on them move things around in their homes you know to the haunted house thing on each of them.. This is going to be fun!
