Elk Hunter Modified
Clayton717 and 3 others reacted to Denny Knappen for a topic
A modified Steve Good pattern. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood-stained Walnut for the backing. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using mostly Pegas #1 MGT blades, but Pegas #0 Spiral blades around the Elk and Evergreens. A light sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac and two coats spray Lacquer Clear Satin with sanding between coats. Comments welcome.4 points -
I tweaked a great pattern by Sam Custodio. I absolutely love good finger style guitar picking and have tried many times to attain the skill but it's just not in the cards for me. I listened to acoustic guitar music through my headphones while cutting this and it was so therapeutic. The wood is 1/2" Sycamore and the backer was a thin plywood bottom from a repurposed dresser drawer. "♫ Who draws the crowd and plays so loud? Baby it's the guitar man. ♫3 points

Some time ago in one of the discussions on here about cordless tool batteries someone mentioned you could get adapters to use different brand batteries on your tools. I was a bit skeptical but I finally bought one just to give it a try. I have two of the 20V HF Bauer brand battery packs, both of which are larger amp hour than my DeWalt drill has. I got the adapter in the mail today and it seems to work.. Does get a little sticky with the release button and made from what feels like some cheap plastic but it does work and I think it'll work well for my needs.. We'll see how it holds up for some bigger jobs where I'm using it enough to get the drill motor a little warm.1 point

Hi everyone, I'm having an operation next week to try to fix this old mans back, Doc says about 4 to 5 weeks before I can go up and down the stairs to my shop. My CEO, COO and everything else in the house reminded me of some gifts I had to complete before my down time, I just wanted to show them to you guys & gals. I won't be able to work, but I will be able to sign on the internet and see what all my friends are working on. I posted this on the other 2 scrolling sites, sorry for the double post. Thanks for looking. Rick1 point -
I need some help with my Excalibur!!!

If you are pulling blades from the same batch, try switching to either different brand blades or a different group of blades.1 point -
That came out great Charlie. Love the hands. They look real.1 point

I need some help with my Excalibur!!!

Darn, that was the one thing I did not do, and usually check it every few weeks if I am running hard. Just tweaked it. So here is how close I am front and back, while under tension. Pretty close to parallel. 1.5mm diff. I am going to set my blade back where it was, as that seemed to make things worse. I was back to having trouble staying on the lines, and it is so far off 90 on the cut, it is not funny. The blade just was not responsive. Really drifty. I am pretty gentle raising and lowering the arm. Only a couple of times it came down and slammed, I tightened it up to prevent that. Is there a replacement part for the knob? This machine is just over a year old. I am not hard on it, and do not use it for major production. I also do not run it full speed either.1 point -

To me it looks like you’ve done the pattern justice. Very fine work.1 point -
Looks good to me! Thanks for sharing. I’m so happy people enjoy the pattern. Sometimes simplicity is best. It’s what I liked about the original photo. Nice job!1 point

Looks good but it should be easy to align and distribute. There are lots of videos on this from years ago. Here is one https://youtu.be/MNgjZDkQW1w?si=kddiK7YOSBolxtHy If still not working I would report to Inkscape. They have a forum and a bug report.1 point -

Stain question
danny reacted to JTTHECLOCKMAN for a topic
That is correct I asked Steve years ago and his answer was many of his projects are computer generated and not stained at all.1 point -
Most pictures of Steves projects, including the one you show are simulations, the colors are computer generated. You have to find and pick your owns colors. For me, I always use hard woods. For that backer, I would use Mahogany or Sapele. This piece is Maple for the overlay and Sapele for the backer board.1 point
