    Lady in a Hat

Although it isn't fully finished, I thought I would post here. Patttern supplied by @FrankEV, thanks. 1/4 bb ply cut with #5mg blade. It is just under 6" square. Colour is acrylic paint. I will be putting a floating frame around it. That will be stained black. It will be a ckear finish, probably Tung Oil.

  3. My latest Intarsia piece. Done for the PAM (project a month) in the Facebook group Just Intarisa. Kathy Wise donated the pattern. Woods used: Spanish Cedar, Rainbow poplar, Walnut, Cherry, Aspen Wenge. The eye highlight is a pencil crayon sharpened and pushed in the hole. Finish is 2 coats of Osmo Satin with a coat of Walrus Oil over top. 25 pieces.

    Christmas prep

Trying to get some stuff done before I get my cataracts addressed, I am making embellishments for some scrabble tile name ornaments. I found the blanks for these at Hobby Lobby which saved me a ton of time sourcing 1/16" ply and cutting it to strips. The snowflakes have two light coats of shaker can white and the holly is handpainted with Unicorn Spit (full strength). Dime added for scale. Cut these in 10 to 14 piece stacks--but they are fragile.

  5. First time I have seen this piano box. You and Marie are true wood artist. Both are jaw droppers. Unbelievable talent in both of these boxes. Dick heppnerguy

    Piano Music Box

This is for my daughter's graduation. My apologies for the long read....It certainly took me multiple tries and a long time to create this. I used maple and walnut for the keys with black wood veneer turned sideways (the keys are 5/8 thick). The mahogany and walnut stripes are also 5/8 and were stack-cut on the Hawk G4 so the pieces could fit together when I separated them. I also used the veneer turned sideways to take up the kurf.... I made the ornament on top and the ones inside the box on my EX 21. I also cut a thin piece of walnut for the under side of the top since I didn't want the piano keys to show when you open it.. I polished it to a high gloss. The bottom was all walnut and I purple floxed the inside. The music box was a challenge since it came out of an antique powder box. 20240605_140234.mp4

  7. Since I'm up at the crack of dawn every morning it's a great time to work in the shop before the afternoon heat arrives. A Steve Good pattern scrolled on 1/4" Baltic birch...

    Linda Ronstadt

Thank you! She was definitely part of the soundtrack of my youth. I like the backer too and it's just a piece of 3/8" pine plywood. I stained it and and then lightly sprayed it with flat black and rubbed it with 0000 steel wool before it dried.

  14. I agree, very nice, simple but eloquent! But what heat. Going too be 90°+ tomorrow, but remember it is the first day of summer. It should be hot! That is what we all look forward to all Winter!

    Celtic Heart Name Plaque

I got the idea from a site that makes and sells customized metal signs. I changed their Celtic knot to one with a heart. I imagine for those that sell, this would be a good seller. Takes a while to cut out though. I'm definitely not a fast cutter. About 8", 3/4" Alder with flat black Luan backer.

    Dewalt planer sale

Well, it sounds like a pretty good deal, but whether or not you can justify it, only you can determine. I probably use my planer as much or more for scroll saw projects as other WW'ing stuff. Having the planer gives me all sorts of flexibility to use different thicknesses for different projects. I'd be lost without it. That said, dropping $600 on a tool is not a decision to be made lightly. You've already committed to spending several hundred $ on the Wen and Dewalt 734. Now the question is, can you realistically step up another couple hundred for the 735? Good luck. I hope you can find a way to make it work.
