  1. A couple of cool pallet boards made the difference in this simple cutting.

  3. Well, only one way to find out. Besides, it's really up to you if it works or not. I'd say give it a try and see what you get. That's half the fun of this hobby! Chris

  5. I've started on my next project, hopefully I haven't bitten off more than I can chew This will end up being a fishing rod rack, but I want it fancy for my Son in law. I found the pattern for a round end table with a dragon motif, the legs are dragons, and the top has a lot of veining cuts of a fire breathing dragon. I also wanted it to spin on a lazy Susan bearing. I've got all the parts and pieces together to be able to begin the project. The base will be a 2 inch thick 12 inch diameter slab of Elm, then the lazy Susan, next a solid 1/2" Elm circle, next layer will be another 1/2" Elm disk with recesses cut for the butt of the fishing poles as well as recesses for the bottom of the dragon legs. The legs come next with a 3/4 square center support, topped the the 12" diameter top. The top will have slots for the top of the fishing poles to set in. My plan is to finish with "latches" for the top of the rod fashioned from extra tail sections. Picture of the original table:

  6. If I'm looking at the picture correctly, you aren't talking about using laminate flooring, rather the material referenced in the picture is the plywood underlayment. Is that correct? If so, I would say that it might be OK for portraits, but I don't know exactly what that underlayment is. If it is the common Luan plywood, then I would advice against using it for anything with much detail in it. Luan is OK for backer board material, but I've never liked scrolling it. It splinters & chips too much and isn't as strong & stable as Baltic birch plywood.

Was on Vacation couple weeks ago and just finished up a couple items, and finally sold my Craftman band saw and treated myself to a wen bandsaw that I bought on Amazon so far I like it much better then the craftman

  8. Thanks everyone. It is underlayment but it’s a better grade than regular old luan. I’ll give it a try.

  10. Here is a snowman I made out of left over flooring. I love how it turned out. Just decide if you want the line vertical or horizontal.

  11. Next month will mark one year that I bought my Dewalt scroll saw and joined this great community of people. I've made quite a few projects in that time and received very helpful, valuable information from the members here. Just wanted to thank you all very much and special thanks to "grandpa" for his time and effort putting up with me to get some beautiful patterns of our Min Pins, past & present. You all Rock!!

    Sanding and shaping area

I know things are busy for everyone with summer here and all. But I wanted to share my sanding and shaping station. I believe I finally have it to where I want it. Only took my 6 months (lol). But now everything is within reach and projects on the table. The Foredom is removable so I can use the dremel and the vac takes care of most all of the dust. Now I just need time to work on things. The Raptor has been on the sanding table for over a month now (ugh!)

    Vibration

You can set up automated searches on Craigslist, eBay, and Facebook that will notify you when something new is posted. If you are patient and careful, the used scroll saw market offers some great buys. However, depending on where you live, you may need to be willing to drive a bit. I bought a Pegas that had never been used from a Facebook ad. I had to drive from Tallahassee, Florida to North Georgia to get it. I have owned four scroll saws and only one was purchased new.

  16. I bought the Bauer from HF tonight.. I bought a couple different styles and sizes of blades too. Just went out and did a test cut a very small area and i think this is going to work perfectly for what I need it for on this job.. just what little I did use it I now can see that this might be another tool that now that I have I'll maybe be using it way more than I originally thought. I never really even looked closely at them before and had no idea how they worked.. Looking at all the different attachments that can be used with this thing really was amazing.. Thanks to all that have given their opinions on this topic.

  18. Sorry, Jerry. I regret posting my NATO display and causing this $t storm. I will hold my tongue. My flag arrangement/application is correct, according to the Flag Protocol AND the Rules of Flags in an International Military Alliance known as NATO. Anything else mentioned by others is ignorance.

  19. To make a custom adapter for the vacuum port you can use a plastic water bottle ( disposable ) and a heat gun. The heat gun will shrink the plastic so that it's tight. #2, what Kevin said.

  20. I searched Fellowship of the Ring wall art. There are several sites selling metal cut outs which I used as a pattern.

  21. I too looked at the photo and see it is a Sureply wood product. They make both underlayment as well as flooring so hard to say what you have. But if it is the underlayment that is a poplar wood top layer. Yes it is very flat and void free. There are other brands that are just as good but what are the inner cores made from and as Bill said many times that plywood does splinter when cut. They always recommend to score with a razor knife first before cutting to prevent this when they lay this on the floor. Now if it is a flooring which I do not think it is because of the width then that could be different. Also looking at the wood closely you see small holes in it thus tells me it is a undelayment plywood. You could try it and see what you think is the only way for sure to find out. Good luck.

  22. Question 1: My vacuum hose fits perfectly so I never had this issue.. but I was thinking if you know of someone with a 3d printer that could print out a adapter for the size you need might be the only solution you have.. or if you have one somewhat close in size and can wrap some electrical tape on the fitting to make it fit tighter might be an option? There was a person here on this site that was making some sort of adapters and selling them on their Etsy site but not sure exactly what they was making or who it was.. Maybe someone here will remember and chime in. Question 2: I don't have any first hand experience with this but I have read about it with other types of saws and vacuums and one persons solution if I remember correctly was they put a 3 way plug connector and had a light or something hooked to it so it'd draw enough power to turn the vacuum on correctly..

    Grampa's Patterns

First of all, thanks to Grampa for the Baby pattern. The second piece is another Grampa pattern from the Village Library. Both pieces will be a gift for a great friend whose wife and he just had their first baby, Stella. Both pieces were cut on 1/4-inch BB and stained with Minwax Ipswich. The backer is Pine stained with Minwax Pure Black. The frames were cut from 1X material and also stained with Ipswich. The pieces were then sprayed with several coats of Polyacrylic with light sanding between coats. I've also included the photo of Stella. She's a cutie!

  25. Yeah, I'm a bit that way myself. I have a stack of wood I took from pallets, I need to send a few of them through my planner or sander and see if there is something amazing hiding underneath. I do like the look of Charlie's piece

  26. Neat. You have a good eye for selecting the right board for a picture. My neighbor, who has a stack of pallets, told me to help myself. All I see is a stack of ugly boards.

  31. Me too! (lol) my honey do list keeps my "shop" time short, but now that I pretty much got the sanding area set up I should make better progress.

  32. I use the bottles the glue came in also. I do like Kevin's idea about swapping the tops between Tacky Glue and Titebond. I might have to try that. Sometimes the dropper top is a better option. As for glue spreaders, I use acid brushes I buy in bulk at Harbor Freight. Fingers do work better, but invariably, I end up smearing glue on some surface I don't want it and don't realize it until my fingerprint shows up somewhere after I've applied a finish. Hmmm, the thought just occurred to me. Maybe my fingerprint, in yellow glue, could be a new way to sign my work.

  34. 1. I am having real problems to find an adapter for my vac hose. The Pégas has a port of 63 mm, and I couldn't find something with a couple of more mm to fit. I have a temporal solution that doesn't suit me, and I would like something, ideally, on hard plastic. Did you have this problem and how did you solve it? 2. My Vac (it's a Karcher WP 6) has a plug to connect the tool. But it only works sometimes and when it works, it stops after a while. It only happens with the Pégas, not with my other tools. It seems as though the Pégas didn't "send" enough power to switch on the vac. Is this possible? Maybe you had a similar issue with your scroll saws and vacs and you can give me a hint of what's happening. Thanks!
