  1. This is only my second Intarsia piece, and yes again, it is almost a direct copy of a work I found on-line. For a full descriptive write up see my post in the Intarsia/Segmentation section. Thanks for reading.

    It's about time

I have been somewhat busy in my shop but just did not get around to posting for a long time, so here are a couple I cut. The Judy Garland pattern I have been waiting to cut for some time and just never gotten to it. The little bi plane is from the # 60 issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking and craft magazine. It was in the issue as a toy but as you may know be now I am not a big fan of wooden toys just because they are too plain for the most part and I prefer the more like model look. So this one I rounded off the body and the wings and brought the upper wing down some to make it a little more realist looking. I have a neighborhood friend who has had me make him several wooden air craft that he hangs on his garage ceiling where we have coffee with several other people every day. I have some more projects to post when I get around to it later. Dick heppnerguy

    Gecko

Simple little gecko. I thought he fit in well with the things on my barn door. Just an image I found on Pinterest. I’m planning to do lots of similar little critters to decorate the privacy fence. Love the versatility of this hobby.

  4. I think your wood choices were good. I have done roses in Cedar, aspen, canary and padauk. There are lots of different color roses.

    Mountain Train

I was in a quandry lately as to a new scroll project. I was wandering through pinterist and came across a train picture I really liked. I had done Alex Fox's pattern and tried my hand on this one. My wife put it into grayscale with Photo Shop and I started eating pixels with MS 3D paint. (too lazy to learn a new program) It took a few days for the design and then off to the copy store. Cutting took about 2 days. I still have put on a finish but it has been too humid to do any spraying. I hope things dry up and cool down soon. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer.

    New puzzles

Finally broke out of my shop malaise and got a couple of new puzzles cut. The round one is 10” in diameter and 163 pieces. The rectangle is 12”x 11” and 132 pieces …

    Another Jewelry box

What a great team you and your wife are together. Both of you do such beautiful work. They are fabulously done. You mentioned that it was a little hot at home....We have only had one month below 110 degrees this month and it was on the first with only 109. This week it is 116 to 115 degree but at least it has been cooling down to the 90's at night. Dick heppnerguy

    Sanding Solution.

Why didn't I think of this sooner. I sand a lot of small parts and it has always been a pain trying to hold them in place. Today a lightbulb turned on. Hard to believe with this old brain. I took a piece of 1/2" plywood and put shelf paper on it. I then used spay glue on the back of a sheet of 120 grit sandpaper and stuck it to it. Worked great! I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this solution but I thought I might share it.

    Up in smoke...

My dad showed me a way to get 90 deg corners in frames that nobody uses any more (not even me), but it does work when you absolutely can't manage to get perfect 45 deg cuts and are on a tight budget. There are 90 deg picture frame clamps available (You really only need one of these for the cutting, but having 4 is better). You do need the two side pieces of wood to be exactly the same length, as well as the top and bottom of the frame pieces. If they aren't identical, you will never have success. To use this method you make your cuts at as close to 45 deg as possible and then place the two pieces that will be joined together in each one of these clamps, as close together as you can get them. You then run a hand saw down the joint between the two pieces, trimming off the inaccurate cuts until they have the same blade kerf width gap between them the full length of the cut, and the two angles on the pieces are complementary to each other. This does not necessarily produce perfect 45 deg cuts, but the joint between these two pieces will make a true 90 degree frame corner that fits tightly together. This link is mostly intended to show what these clamps look like. There are plenty of other versions and sources (probably cheaper too). https://www.amazon.com/Corner-Degree-Woodworking-Framing-Drawers/dp/B0CSN5MGY5/ref=sr_1_15?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SN439hxZkv8dgqpHOtDv3nLQR-118pIqwDUonYka7W1jkCEifF30zLXRLb3zJRoH6RgvNbBFzxWLy6HLl8QqMZlEM-gEk3Pp-d8oUXPIU2hFtghvW_d9OdTFron1Nl_z3GzTVpgv80cYgETaeK9OXeaW5NefO46xCA7TWdQgiDY010PnvfiItcp1lH_y3Xbycdxd2eXdqkymwyeop7QmdtIPX81DzKT-FMKJfUSYwSbL3KN2eM1SlTjrBxENznUdzvOC1saBtis3w3sSETdTjRsBxIF1YIxuCNRkeH10wZI.qS0jC4x-SxIgosOqvsEE8x8aphxxwDIbvL4yKpPY90I&dib_tag=se&hvadid=580673590016&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1021166&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=4032859852090508229&hvtargid=kwd-939433024701&hydadcr=29042_14560085&keywords=90%2Bdegree%2Bwoodworking%2Bclamps&qid=1721323505&sr=8-15&th=1 Charley

    Up in smoke...

If I may make a suggestion. Never work with measurements when cutting sides. Work with a jig that has stop blocks. If you place your blank against the stop blocks they have to be the same length. If you use pencil marks and try to line up to blade you can be off just enough to throw measurements off. There are many jigs on the net to show. And of course that 45 degree cut needs to be accurate also. Good luck.
