  1. Thanks so much for your replies and very good comments, I see now I was on the wrong track all together the foot switch IS a dead man switch not a variable speed foot pedal. So having tested it it works just great, thank you all once again.

  2. I was in the shop yesterday trying to do a compound cut. But the nozzle had clogged on my can of 3M77 and efforts to unclog it had failed. So I printed my pattern on label paper. But when I tried to attach it to the blank I got too much sawdust on it and it would not stick. Looking around the shop for something to make it stick I settled on my spray can of shellac. It took a little longer to set, but it did stick. The 2nd flamingo is the happy result.

  4. Hi villagers... I finally decided to do something. But I ran into some small hurdles. Those hurdles were really small because I remembered some tips I read in the village. I wanted to make a joint that slides into another wood. This one is is at 45deg. So I remember someone saying single bevel cut, you can only do with spiral. So you cut without spinning the wood. Using all sides of the spiral blade. Here is the fit check. It is too tight need to sand it. Here is my scrollsaw sander / file. The other tip was great , another piece of this project was longer than my 26" C arm . . So I remember to turn the blade so it cuts backwards. No picture. But a great tip. So it was a simple project but I am not done. A simple towel rack. But it won't be holding towels. I had to do a size check before I continue. Actual placement on the wall. I have to shape the corners and decide what fretwork to add. Suggestion for fretwork are welcome.

    Am I wrong?

This is the second saw I have questioned the posting of and they took the listing down, the first one also took their posting down after writing me a very nasty response. I'm a Marine it felt good to get called such names again. But if it is legit, why do they hate questions? You know if it looks and sounds too good to be true, well, it probably is to good to be true.

  6. The G0969 is probably fine. Like Scrappile, it annoyed me that they claimed this saw as "unique." Nevertheless, if they can step up and support the saw, it might be an interesting choice. Besides Pegas, Other similar Taiwan saws are the Jet, Seyco, and King, and overseas Axminster and Carbatec. If I lived in/near Atlanta, I would be very tempted to go Dewalt, as they have a crew of Scrollers in the club there that are experts at repair/maintenance. Repairs for any of the Pegas type saws are dicey. If I was close to Seyco, I would go with them, even if I don't like their current saw style as much. Since I don't live anywhere nears those places, Pegas might be my choice, via ArtCrafters/Denny, mostly because I like Denny and he will try to help facilitate warrantee repairs. Currently, my older Taiwan Ex was Seyco, my current 16" is King.

  7. I'm not sure why you want to disconnect the speed control? I have the Wen 21 and I use a dead mans switch which you plug the saw into and then plug the switch into the electrical outlet. I can change the blade speed by the control on the machine. i bought mine on Amazon for less than 15.00 I believe. Is this what you were thinking about??

  11. I've only been scrolling for about 6 months and currently have a Wen 3922 16 inch saw. The saw works fine, but fretwork is painfully slow due to the design (lack of rising arm and re-tensioning the blade). So, I'm looking for an upgrade. I'm leaning towards the Pegas 21 inch, but came across the Grizzly G0969 21 inch saw. It looks very much like the Pegas at a much lower price - delivered for about $400 less. I like that the table is much larger than on the Pegas at about 20 x 28 inches and that it's made in Taiwan (not China as are many of the other Pegas-like saws). The owner's manual is excellent, especially when compared to the Pegas manual. I've searched for reviews and videos on this saw but haven't found anything. Does anyone here have experience with this saw or even with Grizzly as a company? Any other thoughts on how it might compare to the Pegas will be appreciated. While I'm here I might as well ask for any comments on upgrading from an entry level saw to a saw like the Pegas. What improvements will I notice? I'm sure moving from one internal cut to the next will be much more efficient. Other noticeable improvements? Thanks

    It's about time

I have been somewhat busy in my shop but just did not get around to posting for a long time, so here are a couple I cut. The Judy Garland pattern I have been waiting to cut for some time and just never gotten to it. The little bi plane is from the # 60 issue of Scrollsaw Woodworking and craft magazine. It was in the issue as a toy but as you may know be now I am not a big fan of wooden toys just because they are too plain for the most part and I prefer the more like model look. So this one I rounded off the body and the wings and brought the upper wing down some to make it a little more realist looking. I have a neighborhood friend who has had me make him several wooden air craft that he hangs on his garage ceiling where we have coffee with several other people every day. I have some more projects to post when I get around to it later. Dick heppnerguy

  15. An oscillating tool would be perfect for this. I have cut sheet rock with mine, and the cut out will nearly press back into its hole. Perfect for making spot repairs and such.

  16. Original in terms of Excalibur is a bit more complicated. The King is almost identical to the Excalibur Anniversary edition (black and gold table). The prior Taiwan model of the EX was Green and had no holes in the table (no dust collection), which is the model I have. There were multiple EX version prior to that, including all the earliest models being made in Canada (as were Dewalt at the time). That said, the King, Pegas, Seyco and ect are coming out of the same factory as the prior Taiwan Excaliburs, but but none of these, including King, are part of the original company. A few employees of General, that were involved with Excalibur, did leave General and landed at King. Not sure if they are still there or not.

  17. Paul, You know I always try to give the best advice I can and I think I have a solution for you with this device here.. won't burn up any electric motors guaranteed.. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1680623041/antique-american-1876-cast-iron-pedal?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-home_and_living-furniture-living_room_furniture-other&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAjwqf20BhBwEiwAt7dtdWwpEDNe3d2hmpa1YrEzi0HyhGkHnVfglhzY9OrYmK-1woYP8cYuWxoCfv4QAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_12570712527_123240177087_507395010691_aud-2007167693469:pla-307001398688_c__1680623041_111184285&utm_custom2=12570712527&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwqf20BhBwEiwAt7dtdWwpEDNe3d2hmpa1YrEzi0HyhGkHnVfglhzY9OrYmK-1woYP8cYuWxoCfv4QAvD_BwE

  18. Okay, but just for the sake of argument, My wife sews all the time and controls the speed with a foot pedal. I drive a car, more complicated than scrolling, I control the speed with a foot pedal. I am one who really would like to be able to control the speed of my saw with a foot pedal. I do not scroll at the same speed all the time. Different speeds for different parts of scrolling. But I yield to your advice. I do not know enough about motors to mess around with them. But, the speed control of a scroll saw is not part of the motor. It is controlled by a switch outside the motor. You turn a knob, could that not be a push mechanism? Oh, well no matter, back to scrolling.

  19. Refer to the article "Excalibur Scroll Saw - What Happened", published on this forum a few years ago for an interesting read about them and a list of brands manufactured in Taiwan. Note that Pegas is also manufactured there. But there is a plant in China (not Taiwan) that makes a scroll saw like the Excalibur but not necessarily to the same quality standards as those made in Taiwan. I do not know where the Grizzly is made.

  21. I've seen this saw quite some time ago and to me it looks like the WEN saw in green instead, LOL.. IF it is the same saw then I've seen a lot of complaints about the motor lacking power to cut through some of the thicker wood.. I think I've even seen some motor failures posted too.. https://www.lowes.com/pd/WEN-WEN-LL2156-21-Inch-1-6-Amp-Variable-Speed-Parallel-Arm-Scroll-Saw-with-Extra-Large-Dual-Bevel-Steel-Table/5012515583?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-tol-_-ggl-_-PMAX_TOL_000_Priority_Item-_-5012515583-_-online-_-0-_-0&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwhvi0BhA4EiwAX25uj_od8okrUKwG6wXINzRW2cZzugkPznZ6KOiNacv6iJodEuY4GOm89hoCfd8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Might be worth watching for a good used saw to pop up on marketplace or craigslist etc.. but if you insist on new.. the Jet 18" saw was priced at one time in between the DeWalt and the Pegas.. Not sure how the prices have changed I'm sure since the couple years ago when I was looking at them.

  22. Be interested in how you like it if you choose to purchase one. Their write-up is a little overstated, implying their tilting saw is a unique system. There are several brands that do the same and that feature has been around for many years. But it still could be a good saw. Grizzly has a pretty good reputation. I have one of their bandsaw. A good saw. I have purchased a couple of other tools from them, but not all of their brand. I have Never had any problem with their service or shipping.

  23. No experience with the Grizzly scroll saws but do have two Grizzly bandsaws that I have had for years. Both of the bandsaws have been very good for me with no problems at all. I once called Grizzly for another manual for one of the bandsaws a couple of years ago and it was sent out very quickly and the rep on the phone was very friendly and had good knowledge about the product. Best of luck in your scroll saw search.

    Am I wrong?

I agree it's probably the same saw as in the photo.. but which photo. I inquired about a truck that was listed on marketplace in Michigan.. person replied that the truck was in San Antonio Texas but they'd deliver it to me for free once I put half the monty down and pay the other half when they get here. LOL.. I said great my family lives in San Antonio and they can just go inspect it and purchase it on the spot as I'm flying down in a couple weeks anyway.. asked for the address etc.. they never responded back.. don't understand why as a sale is a sale and I had cash money to buy it.

    Am I wrong?

I see several differences between the two saws. One thing that no one else has pointed out yet is that one saw has one wrench slot, and the other has two. I'm not sure what you call these slots, but when I had my Hawk, that is what I used them for.

    Am I wrong?

`Don't know if you are wrong about the saw itself. But there are two different bases shown. Besides the labels and so forth you will note that on one base the right most leg is mounted inside the top part of the stand. On the other the leg is mounted outside of the top which would lead to wobbles. That does not say anything about the saw though. But how mane people have two bases and one saw???
