    God Boxes and Bowl

Been a pretty busy summer with not much shop time. Here are 2 projects that I have manages to eek out. The God Boxes are for some of my wifes family The bowl is Poplar and Walnut. One of the best I have done so far. Hope all you guys and gals are doing okay.

  2. I haven’t been very active lately due to a few issues but here is my latest trial run. Made from recycled Rimu and an old drawer bottom. Back in the old days they sure were not shy about making ply with character grain.

    Pocket/Prayer Crosses

I don't do many religious items but started to make theese small crosses. A few simple designs and nothing fancy. Various woods and sizes of each design.

  5. I was in the shop yesterday trying to do a compound cut. But the nozzle had clogged on my can of 3M77 and efforts to unclog it had failed. So I printed my pattern on label paper. But when I tried to attach it to the blank I got too much sawdust on it and it would not stick. Looking around the shop for something to make it stick I settled on my spray can of shellac. It took a little longer to set, but it did stick. The 2nd flamingo is the happy result.

  6. Check out this grain on this cherry board. I was needing a piece of cherry for a project and only thing I have around here for cherry is all rough cut. Hard to see what the grain actually looks like in rough cut but I’m not using this for my scroll saw project after seeing this grain. Thinking about a couple cutting boards with walnut on both sides and this cherry being the center or making it as a table. What would you do with it? It’s only about 5.5 inch wide after edging it and there is a bad spot on one edge that either would have to edge another 1/2 off or plane it down another 1/4 inch.

    Koi

Went back to some fretwork. Steve Good pattern. 1/4" bbply. Failed experiment with scrapbook paper for colour. The glue caused it to wrinkle. Finished with one coat of varathane.

    Napkin Holders

Thanks everyone for all the info. I was able to find the part that I needed to repair two of my napkin holders.

  9. I have a very large counter that has a dozen or so big drawers from a demolished department store. A bit of work to do but if I need a nicely grained ply I replace the bottoms with some mdf

  11. Hi Frank, the cut panel is a piece of salvage ply that I had tucked away with something like this project in mind. It’s 4mm and was a little warped so I used a 8mm backing panel to straighten it. Glued and screwed. The frame might be a little over engineered but better on the safe side than sorry is my thinking. Needs a bit of touching up.

    Vibration

My Hegner was having some vibration problems. Some of the things I learned are - bolt to a good, solid, heavy bench; lube the arm bushings; blade tension seems to affect vibrations; it will vibrate at certain speeds and be dead smooth at others - i'm guessing harmonics happening and amplifying the original vibration. If your bench is stout, lube the arm bushings; if possible adjust them - my saw has grub screws to retain the bushings and they can be snugged up to take small amounts of wobble/slop out.
