    Blacksmith.

My father was a Blacksmith. He started his apprenticeship when aged 14 and worked until aged 65. A kind hearted man with a will as strong as the iron he worked. He had five sons and to his disappointment only one followed in his footsteps. I was’t the one as I went to sea when I was 15 and since then have worked countless (over 30) different jobs in different countries. as per usual I used all recycled wood.

  4. I saw this on FaceBook a few days ago. I thought it was a brilliant idea for using scraps, especially Baltic Birch. The person who did it lives in Italy. Just an awesome picture. His name is "Faber De Refibus".

  6. After reading your post I was concerned about rebuilding the dinette seat in our camper. It *HAD* been screwed to the wall; but was no longer and I paniced a bit about having to cut screws. Fortunately it pulled out of the wall and I found them to be screwed from inside the seat to the wall. Is your slide-out sagging? Our camper is a 2016 and the slide must have at least 1/2" sag in the middle of the slide out ceiling. I'm going to put a 2x4 with an adjustable end in to brace it and push it back straight. I'm not sure the exact span, its at least 10', but that is way too much to be unsupported given the construction methods used. I'm kinda looking for a bombed out camper to turn into a mobile shop. It may take a while to find a $500ish wreck with good walls, floor, and roof to flip. I've got time though.

  7. Not much of a sportsball kind of guy, but I do enjoy a couple of active pastimes. Archery is the only one I've done any sort of scrolling for, though.

    O'le Man River Steam Boat

Over the years I have done several cars, planes, landscapes and a few ship. I thought I try my hand at a Mississippi style steam boat. It was about the max size for my EX-16 at 17 x 14 and had to do some cuts coming in at opposite directions. The railing was the most challenging with close to 140 very narrow cuts. Lots of very small cuts, especially the stairs. I really liked the drifting smoke coming off the stacks. It took several days to cut because it would get hot in my shop, garage and did most of the work in the mornings when it was still cool. 1/8" BBPW with shellac/ lacquer finish.

  10. Have been setting up my shed shop these last few months and finally looks like I will start scrolling, (Yea!). I was going through a box and came up with these cuttings from long ago. The three Mahi Mahi was one of my first projects. At the time I had purchased a used Hegner and cut the fish on it. It was a good saw but I a quickly grew tired of the blade set up. So I quickly sold it and purchased a Hawk. I loved this saw. But due to medical issues and a bunch of other things, I had to sell it and everything else and moved back to Miami from Ocala. I was without a saw till a few months ago when I purchased a Pegas from Denny. The two Easter cuttings were from Sue Mey and I stacked cut at the time and gave them away at Easter. Looking forward to scrolling agin.

  11. Hi everyone, before I start banging my head angainst a wall, can anyone tell what is happening when I try the following. I imported an image into inkscape and successfully performed a black line to red line change and when I tried to save it, a box came up on the upper left of my screen that was titled WMF Output. There were a bunch of options in the box, but noneof them were highlighted, so I just hit okay, and the image I was working on went off to NEVER-NEVER Land. Then inkscape shut down and the image is nowhere to be found. I don't recall ever seeing that box before, so good ole MAGIC FINGERS must have hit the wrong keystroke somewhere. Thank you in advance for any help. By the way, NO WALLS WERE DAMAGED IN ANY WAY. Rick

    Something different

I've scrolled these two images smaller and mounted them on stands painted black. Decided to try something different. Enlarged the pattern, outlined the 1/4" cutting with 1/8" BB ply using the washer trick, painted black, and mounted it on 3/8" BB ply with Danish oil.

Welcome. Nice piece. My husband's great grandfather was a blacksmith. We still have a few things from his shop including a ledger where he kept track of the work he did along with a bench.

    Something different

Nicely done. I really like how the Danish oil brings out the grain of the wood. I've used the washer trick many times and have an assortment of various size washers just for that purpose.

  40. My next door neighbor's son invited us to his 7th birthday party. We're pretty good buddies and he calls me "Mr. Charlie." His mom will probably like this more than he does so of course we'll bring a toy/game present too. Giving a kid a wooden portrait would probably be as exciting to them as socks. The words, written so skillfully , are from Bob Dylan's, Forever Young.

    Mountain Train

I was in a quandry lately as to a new scroll project. I was wandering through pinterist and came across a train picture I really liked. I had done Alex Fox's pattern and tried my hand on this one. My wife put it into grayscale with Photo Shop and I started eating pixels with MS 3D paint. (too lazy to learn a new program) It took a few days for the design and then off to the copy store. Cutting took about 2 days. I still have put on a finish but it has been too humid to do any spraying. I hope things dry up and cool down soon. 1/8" BBPW on 1/4" backer.
