  1. Have been setting up my shed shop these last few months and finally looks like I will start scrolling, (Yea!). I was going through a box and came up with these cuttings from long ago. The three Mahi Mahi was one of my first projects. At the time I had purchased a used Hegner and cut the fish on it. It was a good saw but I a quickly grew tired of the blade set up. So I quickly sold it and purchased a Hawk. I loved this saw. But due to medical issues and a bunch of other things, I had to sell it and everything else and moved back to Miami from Ocala. I was without a saw till a few months ago when I purchased a Pegas from Denny. The two Easter cuttings were from Sue Mey and I stacked cut at the time and gave them away at Easter. Looking forward to scrolling agin.

    Viking

The pattern is by Russ Beard. It has 576 internal cut. I used 15 blades. It took approx. 24 hours cutting time over approx 10 - 12 week. I had 3 weeks off for Covid, did a couple of items for customers and had various appointment also in that 10 - 12 weeks. I used 1.5mm bamboo x 2. I think I was a quarter of the way up from the bottom when I regretted ever starting it but now I'm glad that I did it. My main reason for cutting this is for my Grandson who did his ancestry DNA and found that he had 3% Viking in him which he gets from me. He was over the moon to discover this so I thought it appropriate to cut this for him and one for me. Marg

    Blacksmith.

My father was a Blacksmith. He started his apprenticeship when aged 14 and worked until aged 65. A kind hearted man with a will as strong as the iron he worked. He had five sons and to his disappointment only one followed in his footsteps. I was’t the one as I went to sea when I was 15 and since then have worked countless (over 30) different jobs in different countries. as per usual I used all recycled wood.

    O'le Man River Steam Boat

Over the years I have done several cars, planes, landscapes and a few ship. I thought I try my hand at a Mississippi style steam boat. It was about the max size for my EX-16 at 17 x 14 and had to do some cuts coming in at opposite directions. The railing was the most challenging with close to 140 very narrow cuts. Lots of very small cuts, especially the stairs. I really liked the drifting smoke coming off the stacks. It took several days to cut because it would get hot in my shop, garage and did most of the work in the mornings when it was still cool. 1/8" BBPW with shellac/ lacquer finish.

  9. I saw this on FaceBook a few days ago. I thought it was a brilliant idea for using scraps, especially Baltic Birch. The person who did it lives in Italy. Just an awesome picture. His name is "Faber De Refibus".

  10. In addition to Ray's advise, you may try rebooting your computer and then restarting Inkscape. This may cause Inkscape to try to recover a file that was shut down improperly.

    Tombstone/Doc Holiday

Scroll portion made on 3/4 Baltic Birch, Painted with artist oil, Lettering MDF dipped several times in Shellac, Bronze leaf and oil paint details, Background MDF panel finished with artist oil, Inter-frame reclaimed old growth pine, distressed with Shellac tinted with walnut Transtint, Outer-frame Wormy Maple distressed finished with Linseed oil. Portrait and landscape painting is another hobby on mine. I've been searching for ways to incorporate painting with my woodworking projects. This is my first attempt to paint a scrollsaw project. Give me your honest opinion on how it looks.

    A Few Jim Blume Patterns

I cut these three after a six-month layoff. Harvest Time - Back Porch - Bucket Harvest Time was changed a little by me and took the most time.

    OUCH!

No scrollsaw injuries but I do have one finger that’s flatter on the end than the others because of a homemade disc sander. Trying to sand a small piece of wood on it. I knew better but I was in a hurry. That’s when accidents happen.

    OUCH!

It is never good reading of accidents that happen in a shop. any tool in a shop can hurt but any tool that has a cutting blade can hurt that much more. stay safe and work with much care. My biggest accident was with an exacto knife. i was cutting the molds off I use for my pen blank making that I use when pour resins, and the blade slipped and it was a decent cut. Bandaid did the trick but being on blood thinners, that was not pretty. What a mess.
