    A helping hand

I’m quite enjoying this art form . A lot different from all the toy making I usually do. More challenging in lots of way specially patience. as normal with me it’s all recycled wood.

  2. Can't remember who said they leave their pattern attached when spray painting to avoid getting too many coats applied trying to get those cut areas covered. Leaving the pattern on stopped me from having to apply a thick coat when pattern was removed. Works like a champ!

  5. I started making Christmas decorations for family members a couple of years ago. We send it out early so they have a chance to add it to their decorations the same year as they get them. I pick rather simple items and I started them a little earlier this year so I would have a clear slate for regular Christmas items if someone wants to place an order with me. This year I am doing these little snowmen. I am planning on making 12 of them, so far I have finish 4 of them. Here are a couple of them so you can see what I am up to in my shop this year. 6. My sweet sister Amy, 66, passed away as the result of a stroke a week ago. Her happy place was Cape San Blas, Florida. We went there together with our families and shared a beach house for the week of Thanksgiving several times. Those weeks were like Heaven on Earth. She had no grandchildren so was like a bonus grandmother to my 5. She and I shared a love for the song "Here Comes The Sun" as done by James Taylor and Yo Yo Ma. Her son-in-law is a gifted guitarist and played it at the funeral. I cut this the night before to put alongside her beach pictures at the funeral chapel as a tribute to her, and therapy for me. You can see her bird that has left our flock in the upper right. Amy was able to donate her kidneys, liver, and eye lenses. Cherish your loved ones each day.

I made the pattern for this from a painting that I found online. The original artist was not credited. It's 8 x 10 x 1/8 inch Baltic Birch plywood. Cut with Pegas #1, 2 and 0 spirals.

So sorry about the loss of your sister Charlie. I’ve been there with several family members. It’s a tough thing to deal with. What a wonderful plaque you made. I wish I had your talent of design.

  15. A couple of weeks ago at the Farmers Market a family came up on their bikes. One girl, about 10, had a recently broken arm and was "in a mood", just was not having a good day. I was the second booth in from the edge of the market, so I asked if she wanted to see some "woodworking magic". I had one of the reindeer cut out but still in the block, so I showed them the block, pointed out where I had cut both side and then took the 3D reindeer out of the center of the block. I didn't make a sale but it broke the girls bad mood and she (and her family) were able to enjoy the day at the market. That got me thinking. Now when I prep the deer for cutting I drill a pilot hole in both sides pf the block and then cut out the reindeer. I remove the deer from the block and brush off as much sawdust as I can and remove the small waste pieces from the legs and antlers. put it back together and sell the item block and all. And they are selling better than the deer by itself.

  16. Alex Fox Basket C03 Modified, I only cut 7 rings making the basket 2" high. I used 1/4" solid Cherry 8" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. After sanding and gluing each ring, I sprayed with two coats Lacquer Clear Gloss, Light sanding after each coat. Comments welcome.

  19. I cut the "IRON HORSE & THE BABE", using the pattern by Kris, that he so graciously shared with me. I took the liberty to add the famous ediface that surrounded THEIR Yankee Stadium and then framed the piece. It was a gift for our Pastor, who would greet everyone after mass on Sunday and ask me to wait because he wanted to speak with me. He needed to speak with me about his Yankees, when I prsented him with this gift,he couldn't belive it and it stillhangs in his office to this day. Thank you again, Kris, for your generousity. Rick
