    New Harbor freight saw.

All the pin on the HF saw does is hold the arm up. Like the add on mechanism that people bought for the Dewalts. To lower the arm you have to reach all the way back and pull the spring loaded pin. A dumb design in my opinion. A lot of extra effort when top feeding. The blade tension keeps the arm down. The EX and other saws that have the ball spring, It is just friction that holds the arm up. No locking or releasing anything. The reason this damaged my friends saw is the one on the left (original) got tired so the prior owner over tightened it until it damaged the arm. The one on the right is the new replacement. As you can see the ball extends further. It doesn't take much to keep the arm up.

  6. I know this not the right place to put this but I thought it was probably the place most looked at by members so I took the liberty to post it here. This will be most interesting to those that do intarsia work but even if one does not, I believe all would be interesting in viewing it My daughter in Heppner, Oregon, where we lived for over 15 years before moving to Arizona, has a wood burning stove that she heats her home with and she was cutting her wood so they will be ready when the summer warmth disappears. As she was splitting some Camerack wood some of the pieces had this unbelievably beautiful pink center. Knowing that I do some intarsia, she sent me a photo of a piece of it. I asked her how wide it the pink center of the wood. She told me she thought some of it was between 3 and 5 inches. She is coming for a visit next week and told my she would put a piece or two into her backpack to give to me. The cause of the pink centers is not really known for sure by us but I was told several years ago when I had a piece of it that was a brilliant blue, rather than the pink center this one is, that it was caused by a certain beetle that homes in the trees. Other guesses was it was caused by the soil in which it is growing. As far as I know, all is just a guess. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy seeing this, and yes, I hope to be able to get more of it and seeing if it is workable. My daughter said she will try to save as much as she can for me. My other daughter who also lives in Heppner is also a wood worker so I don't know how much she will be grabbing for herself, leaving whatever she decides I should be able to have for myself. The Pink does not go through most of the center of the wood pieces so they are extremely rare to find. Dick heppnerguy

  7. I am wrapping up my 125 toy donation project and needed to do some 'toys' for the older kids. I wanted something that could be played alone or with someone else. So here we go! I made two variations, the first is drilled for pegs, and the second is drilled for marbles. You can play 3 games on these boards. And yes, I use my scroll saw to cut the straight lines. What I am displaying right now is "Fox and Hens". The goal is for the fox (black peg/big marble) to take 8 hens off the board to win. For the hens, they have to corner the fox. Fox can move in any direction and jump hens to take them off the board. Hens can only move forward or sideways, no jumping. Play alone or with another person. The 2nd game is a take-off of the old triangle peg game. Fill all the holes with pegs (or marbles for my variant) except for the center hole, then jump pieces to remove them. The goal is to only have one piece left. Very challenging. 3rd, I noticed you can play tick-tack-toe. You can even try to play 2 T-T-T games at once! Larger games 3/4" Walnut finished in Old Masters Gel. Triangles are made with 3/4" ash, unfinished. Edges are routered so they are smooth on both sides. I also did a couple of laser-burned baseball dice/pegs games out of 3/4" mahogany. I cut the shape of the game on my scrollsaw.

    WEN LL2156

I've seen a lot of complaints of this with this saw.. In all the cases the saw wasn't only a few weeks old and was returned.. so I do not know what was the cause.. One person had returned 3 saws for this as an exchange.. then finally returned and bought something else. If you're under warranty that might be the best option. Be nice to hear what the problem is though.

  10. Is it that big of a difference? I bought my EX21 for the easy, rapid blade changes. I can't imagine using anything that does not have this.

  11. Just some quickies to add to the 125 toys I am making for a local children's cancer organization. I figured I needed some things for the little-little ones too! The teethers are finished in beeswax and coconut oil. The balls and rings on the rattles are quite large. They do not fit in my "Choke Hazzard" tester. I like these quick little projects.

Their customer service number is 800-232-1195. Should be able to get parts there.

  13. Another thought just came to mind. Most all of us use foot switches to start and stop our saws. That could present a problem because the variable controller is not being "exercised" the way it was intended. It could be building up a corrosion of some sort on the winding of the pot and make it start acting funny. It might be wise of us who do use foot switches to give the knob a twirl each time we use the saw just to clean the build-up off the winding and its moveable contact part.

    Some of God's work

There is a beetle infesting lots of Washington wood in the forest, I wonder it it somehow caused the color variation. Like the boxelder beetles makes the red in boxelder.

  15. My first was an AMT. it was my dads. He made the most beautiful intarsia pieces with it. I had no such luck. My next one was a craftsman. Both of these saws were pin only. Both also collected dust from lack of use. My nephew gave me a DW788 and what a difference. That got me hooked. Since then, I’ve purchased two EX-21’s and two Hegner’s. (I have a summer shop and a winter shop) I still have all four, but use only the Hegners. The only time I’ll use the EX’s is when I need to tilt the head.

  19. Thanks Dick. I can never put a price on some of my more intricate work, so I tend to give those away as well. However, when I do receive financial gifts so I can make more toys to give away, I usually send a thank you gift, like a Welsh Love Spoon, or just recently one of my Christmas tree nativities. I get more satisfaction from giving things away. I have no need, nor desire to sell things. Though people do come along and inquire about buying something, I just ask them to donate to my para-charity and I'll send it as a gift to them. Below is one I am working on now. I am just at the dry fit and testing the lighting. Still need to do the final glue up and dip in linseed oil to bring out all the colors. I had an idea and ran with it, and from the initial design to having all the layers cut was about 2 - 2.5 hours. It's cut from Mahogany and Wenge. This will most likely go to the young man in which the cancer organization was founded by his mother. She calls him "King David", and David and Goliath is one of my favorite Biblical stories. I have a sermon I give on that story "Goliath couldn't buy his sneakers at Walmart".

  20. 16" craftsman 20 years ago. I think I got it as a Christmas gift. I learned on it and really got into scrolling quick but it started having issues after about 30 hours of scrolling on it. broke down and bought a DeWalt 788 type 1 major improvement. about 5 year later and countless hours, the windings in the motor shorted out ( or something like that. cant quite remember." got my current ex16 11 years ago. although I haven't done much scrolling in a while its ready to roll after hundreds of hours of use.

Yes, you are correct about the sign. No, I did not see the Charlie Brown rock....Not sure why I missed it. Probably because I was so excited when I saw your Heppner sign that I had to share with my hubby the significant about it. Do let @Scrappile and I know if you ever return there again.

  22. Delta 788 - now disassembled awaiting me to get replacement bearings. Which I thinking I'll never do as I have a Pegas that keeps me busy. Keeping my eyes on prices for new Delta's - the old story of price comparing a new one compared to cost of total bearing replacement.

  23. Thanks, I thought maybe you had some special brush you were using. I use gold Taklon artist brushes. A window cleaner from the dollar store does an excellent job cleaning acrylics.

    You Ask Why

The first time for me was rattling and vibration. I replaced the entire drive link with one from Seyco. Two years later the motor began stopping at random times and I replaced it with a motor from Seyco. I also replaced the electronics because I discovered that the output that controls the motor speed was constantly varying which was causing the motor to speed up and slow down. So, now the only replaceable parts that haven't been replaced is the speed control pot and the power switch. I have a Pegas saw but the EX-21 is still my go to saw because it is set up perfectly for me.

  25. Been cranking out a bunch of projects lately with 1/4" BB plywood, wasn't paying attention and ran out. So while waiting for Ocooch's order I decided to clean the shop. Not the smartest day to do it since it's been 99 degrees with a triple digit heat index. Every tool rolled out of the shop into the driveway, blow and vacuum every speck or sawdust off/out of them, clean all the blades and lube moving parts, vacuum the floor corner to corner, drain compressor, organized the contents of drawers and cabinets and swiffer dusted all surfaces. Spotless! How often do you do a big clean??

    WEN LL2156

Does anyone know where to get replacement set and thumb screws for the WEN LL2156 21" saw? The only thing I found on the WEN website was the upper clamp which I think is identical to the lower clamp. I had heard that Pegas was developing the set and thumbs screws to fit the LL2156, but I don't know if they have done it yet. Mine are fine now, but I want an extra set on hand when/if I need them. Thanks.

I have a WEN LL2156. Of recent the RPM's on the variable speed control have slowed down and when you're cutting it boggs down. Anyone else experience this?

My 21" Excal failed on me too, for some reason I could not cut and stay on the line anymore. There's a whole thread here of my troubleshooting.I bought a 30" Pegas. I still have the Excal, and I finally got it working, but it sits on a cart in the corner. Perhaps when I get another table, I'll set it up again and use it for some rough cutting.
