  1. I have these, and I like them mainly because they don't get crushed if I step on them. I have four.

  2. I have an older EX-21 with no dust collection. It is a simple box that catches the sawdust and small piece that catches it before it fall on my leg. It is real crude and if I was doing more scrolling I would add dust collection of some sort but this works. I have a ceiling fan that runs too.

  5. Congrats on the new saw! IF you have troubles with the blade chucks, I suggest upgrading to the Pegas chucks.. Most these tension levers are plastic... however I've never had any trouble with them with either the DeWalt, Excalibur, or Pegas chucks.. The issues I have seen is when people tighten the blade too tight they strip the threads in the cheap aluminum or pot metal chuck metal material.. Or they spread the clamp apart so they don't clamp properly. Pegas chucks I believe are made of a much better billet style aluminum rather than the cheap cast aluminum etc..

    Hummingbird lamps

I've been off the radar for a while. We had company come from NH. We had enticed them to come and visit for the "Fall For Greenville" festival. It got postponed because of the hurricane. They decided to come anyway. We visited Falls Park and the next day we drove up to the Tryon Int'l Equestrian Center just over the NC border. As we drove north to the center, we saw many massive broken off trees along the road. It looks like several may have laid across the road at some point but had been cleared. We were only about 10 miles south of Lake Lure but decided they didn't needed any tourists viewing the devastation. While they were here, they fell in love with my hummingbird lamp. As a consolation for missing the festival, I would make them one. It took about 4 days and I used up the last of my lexan. I was glad I had the original to work off of for the measurements. The 1/8" Lexan is easy to cut on the table saw with a 80 tooth cross cuit blade but it does make a mess with all the chips/dust. It becomes static and sticks to everything. Starting to think about making some Xmas gifts.

  8. Grim Reaper In A Potion Bottle I made this one larger—about five inches wide. These are a pain to make, mainly because the three layers don't match size-wise or shape, and I have to do a lot of sanding and filing to smooth the edges. My grandson claimed this one on sight.

  9. There are no major flaws in a Hegner or a Hawk! Just somethings people may prefer of some other things.. Not flaws!

  10. Yes they are great. My brother led me onto those. One year Home Depot was selling the shop vacs for $40 around Christmas time. We each bought 2 and wish i bought a couple more because the price has more than doubled. Then we bought the hoses and a tremendous upgrade. I bought the Hepa filter for them also. Just used it alot this summer for I am doing some sheetrock work on some rooms in the house and after sanding I vac the walls down before I prime and no dust at all and the hose did not fight me either. Just long enough too. Now I have a garage vac set up in my garage for cleaning the cars and other projects I may do out in the garage or in front of it and it too has a hose similar to that but is 25 feet long so I can reach anywhere. It is so flexible and easy to wrap up and hang by the vac. That thing is also a great vac. Wall mounted and always available so I do not have to pull shop vac out every time I need a vac outside.

  11. I think a couple issues that new scrollers have, especially if they have some familiarity with other wood cutting saws, is how slowly scroll saw blades cut and how quickly they wear out. Size & type will determine how fast and how long a scroll saw blade will cut but they will never cut like a bandsaw, table saw or even a jig saw blade. Setting realistic expectations seems to be one of the first things a new scroller needs to understand.

    Blade holders

When I first got started scrolling I had to have the latest greatest inventions. Everyone was making blade holders from PVC pipe and using caps to secure blades. I made a whole rack of them and I colored them with paint because I use to paint the ends of the blades to signify the size of the blade. Still have rack hanging on wall and whatever blades are in them are antiques by now. Then the Berry Basket came out with a small rack that you could stand or hang on the wall with plastic tubes. So I bought a couple of those and that is where I store my FD blades in with the labels attached to the outside. Again I stopped using all those things many years ago because I found I basically was using one blade #5 penquin reverse FD blades which was my go to blade and still is today to cut just about anything. Now I have puzzle blades and a few larger blades and also jewelers blades but I just keep them in the package they came in and they sit next to the saws and when I need a blade I just take out of the package. Nothing fancy and did that for 30 years.

  13. You are correct, they were the Highwaymen, but each were known as outlaws in the world of Nashville country music, as they didn’t abide by the rules, spoke or unspoken.

  14. From what I read from the posts, I did purchase one of these today, I have a thing for making bowls and inlay patterns. I cut one ring of 1/2 inch maple about eight inches in diameter, I thought it went well. I am concerned about the blade tension handle made from plastic. I plan on giving it a good test run the next few weeks.

  16. I bought 16x150mm plastic test tubes from Amazon about 75 cents each. (CANADIAN). They fit in my EX-21. They have cork tops instead of of twist tops. A little higher but would work. I have enough of the tubes I got from Lee Valley a long time ago. I do group buys by the gross for our club and this easier for members. I added a dollar to the price and they still got a deal.

    Nativity Box

@edward, I did that exact same scene and donated it to our church for a silent auction. The auction is tonight, and I am curious to see how much it will bring in. I added some inexpensive LED lights inside the scene. 19. I've noticed that GrandpaJim hasn't logged in here in a few months.. He sold his crafts on Etsy and Go Imagine websites and had shut his stores down too. So I got to looking him up and sadly found his obituary. He passed on July 3rd. RIP Jim https://www.schmidtfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Frank-Jim-Mikul?obId=32256215
