    Me, Grumpy ?

Every now and then I do a project that makes me smile and I enjoy. This one has been on my list for a few years ( I worked at Disney World back in the 80's). Finally had a week free to make it. It'll go on the wall next to Donkey Kong. Chris

    Christmas Gnomes set

I think last Christmas gnomes were everywhere: toys, cards, decoration, some household items in the form of a gnomes. So I decided to make my variant of Christmas decoration - set of 6 Christmas Gnomes, recommended to use 2 types of wood or stains, stand and hanger ring are optional. I cut the first one, I wish I have more time, but it is time to make next pattern, it will be Christmas box Video of making project - https://youtu.be/FPz30vl_c7o Christmas gnomes pattern

  3. I was asked by Frederick Lumber Company to join some other woodworkers and a rep from Festool to do a demonstration with my scrollsaw yesterday. I have done this cutting of Willie Nelson a couple of times before. Though I cut and stained the backboard before the show, I cut all of the rest between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. while stopping and answering people’s questions. After cutting it all with 2 Pegas 0 spiraIs, I took it over to the Festool demo and used one of their palm sanders to remove the fuzzies on the back.I gotta say it was noticeably smoother to use with less vibration than the ones I have. A number of people asked if I would consider giving a class on scrolling. I’m considering it. (Pattern is Steve Good’s).

    Me, Grumpy ?

Love it!!!!!!! I was only 40 when my first grandson was born. When asked what should he call me, I said, I'm too young to be called Grandpa (I only sleep with a Grandma) so have him call me Grumps. It stuck and, ever since, I have been Grumps to my Kids, Grandkids, and even my Great Grandkid as soon as he can talk. I did a version of him a while back:

  5. Alright, this is the last and final project I will scroll because I'm selling the saw on Monday and switching my hobby to casting with epoxy resin. Made over a couple of hundred items and had a lot of fun but it's time for a change.

  6. Some of my castings these last seven week into this unique hobby... Mix it up, wait, and hope for the best!

  7. Grim Reaper In A Potion Bottle I made this one larger—about five inches wide. These are a pain to make, mainly because the three layers don't match size-wise or shape, and I have to do a lot of sanding and filing to smooth the edges. My grandson claimed this one on sight.

    Hummingbird lamps

I've been off the radar for a while. We had company come from NH. We had enticed them to come and visit for the "Fall For Greenville" festival. It got postponed because of the hurricane. They decided to come anyway. We visited Falls Park and the next day we drove up to the Tryon Int'l Equestrian Center just over the NC border. As we drove north to the center, we saw many massive broken off trees along the road. It looks like several may have laid across the road at some point but had been cleared. We were only about 10 miles south of Lake Lure but decided they didn't needed any tourists viewing the devastation. While they were here, they fell in love with my hummingbird lamp. As a consolation for missing the festival, I would make them one. It took about 4 days and I used up the last of my lexan. I was glad I had the original to work off of for the measurements. The 1/8" Lexan is easy to cut on the table saw with a 80 tooth cross cuit blade but it does make a mess with all the chips/dust. It becomes static and sticks to everything. Starting to think about making some Xmas gifts.

    Me, Grumpy ?

Very cool, I may have to "borrow" that. Everyone at work calls me Grumpy, they say it's because I look like I walk around upset at everything. So they've taken to calling me Grumpy.

  11. Joe, I think it is really neat that you were asked to do a demostration of the scroll saw. Don't see those any more. At one time, years ago, you could attend home shows where there may be a demostartion of scroll saws, mosthly I remember seeing RBI having a booth. I recall too once seeing a scroll saw demo at a lunber yard. Even craft fairs would have 2 or 3 scroll saw booths set up. Don't see those anymore. Anyway, to cut a long story short, that is how I became interested in scroll sawing. Needless to say, my first scroll saw was a RBI because that is mostly saw. Jerry

  14. We used to put those in a fish bowl and watch them grow back in the day.

  15. Mighty fine. One in there reminded me of the "grow rocks", maybe it was, "grow crystals". You got a little envelope of tiny rocks, put them in water and they "grew". Does anyone remember those? I would keep the saw, looks like the two hobbies could work together.

  20. The review has me interested, the vac I use now is verry noisy, even in a cabinet, but it was like 30 dollars.

  21. Yea this is a matter of opinion. I do not see why the Hawk clamps are more cumbersome. So simple to take out and replace blade and slap back in with no tools needed. hegner you better not loose that wrench. I had both and when I switched to Hawk it was night and day and love both my Hawks. But again it is what you learned on that we gravitate back to. I bet if you started with a Hawk you would changed your mind. But I could be wrong.

  22. Yes they are great. My brother led me onto those. One year Home Depot was selling the shop vacs for $40 around Christmas time. We each bought 2 and wish i bought a couple more because the price has more than doubled. Then we bought the hoses and a tremendous upgrade. I bought the Hepa filter for them also. Just used it alot this summer for I am doing some sheetrock work on some rooms in the house and after sanding I vac the walls down before I prime and no dust at all and the hose did not fight me either. Just long enough too. Now I have a garage vac set up in my garage for cleaning the cars and other projects I may do out in the garage or in front of it and it too has a hose similar to that but is 25 feet long so I can reach anywhere. It is so flexible and easy to wrap up and hang by the vac. That thing is also a great vac. Wall mounted and always available so I do not have to pull shop vac out every time I need a vac outside.

  23. I have these, and I like them mainly because they don't get crushed if I step on them. I have four.

  29. The glue hasn't cured yet, and I am trying to decide whether to do anything else to it. I have never made anything like this before, and it was a bit more difficult than I anticipated.

  30. Done at the request of my wife, Jack Skellington. Just found a cool pic on Google, same with his bow-tie. Also, done at my daughter's request (double-stacked this one, cuz its just that cool), John Wick. AKA, Baba-Yaga, the Boogeyman. Pencil holder was kludged together from some scrap, cut and sanded to size, and two holes drilled in for the pencils. Ignore the nail file, that was there to keep the pencils from leaning against the frame as the glue dried (also, they're great for sanding in hard-to-reach places, easy to cut to shape for awkward sanding, and a pack of 50 cost me $1 at WalMart).

  32. Fresh off the saw. Still need to sand and decide if I am going to do her all Black or color. I love when I can get two for the price of one. Several more to cut.
