    Ornament for a friend

An ornament for a friend, pattern from the ornaments for charity files. 1/8" basswood, FD Polar #2/0 blades for the interior cuts; #1 for the outside cut.

  2. I modified a Steve good pattern using Inkscape to make this Ornament as a gift. It is made from 1/4-inch plywood with a 1/8-inch backing. It is finished with rattle can lacquer and bright red acrylic. I used a Pegas #1 MGT at a slow speed for the cut.

  3. For anyone who hasn't seen these, they are really fun. I did these three last night for grandkids. They look much better actual "tiny" size than blown up. I included the video demonstration.

    Lesson Learned

I actually prefer 3M45 instead of the 77.. Best of all if a pattern will fit on a standard 8.5 x 11 paper then I prefer to print pattern on a full sheet shipping label.. Then it's just peel and stick to my tape or shelf liner covered board. No spray glue mess and no more clogged nozzles etc.

    Nativity 2024

Every year I try to do a nativity scene. This year, I picked more of a picture than a scene that has to be set up. This is a Sue Mey design. My picture taking skills are declining along with my scrolling skills. But I finished it.

  7. I tried something new for me. This is a SueMey pattern. I have been wanting to try some "relief" cutting. Where you cut part of a picture at an angle so it will stand proud of the rest of the picture. I started with the verse, then cut the tree with a 2.5° slant. When I finished cutting the tree and saw how it looked, I decided the heart should stand out proud, also. I had some bloopers, but nothing serious. My intent was to remove the tree and stain it, but the root area was just too fragile to mess with. So I removed the pattern from the tree and the heart and colored them, leaving the pattern on the rest so I would not get stain it. It Worked pretty well. Anyway, I am happy with it and will do better next time. It is cut in 1/2" Oak.

  8. This is a Dyson that I picked up off the curb about 10 years ago. It has hundreds of hours on it and no telling how old it was when I picked it up.

  9. I have tried multiple things with mixed results. I will try some better quality brushes. The area I want to paint is very tiny. Just getting poor results with the wood choice. Oak does not seem to work well. Baltic Birch was the best with water colors but as others mentioned it raised the grain.

  15. They make a reducer/thinner specifically for acrylics. I have zero experience with these because they are expensive. I thin with distilled water because the minerals and chemicals in my tap water can cause reactions in the paint. One that I have experienced is having the paint thinned with tap water set up hard overnight when I saved it for the next coat. I only thin when using an airbrush and not much then.

    Lesson Learned

I have a bunch of half-sheet labels left after buying a laser printer. They work great.

    Lesson Learned

3M make the same (or very similar) products with different part numbers for different divisions. I work in the automotive industry and we also sell to the industrial market. I often run into items that are the same product being sold with different 3M part numbers depending which division it is sold by

    Lesson Learned

Although I prefer 3M77 I've used Elmer's also, and I like how it comes out in a fine mist. Seems to get more even coverage. Also, I think Scotch is owned by 3M, so it's weird that they would make a Scotch 77. Must be something in the formula.

  23. I found this pic in Scrappile's gallery, liked it and wanted to do it. I couldn't find a pattern, so I used his photo. 27cm x 36.5cm, backer board 6mm, Viking 4mm, 'cheap' DIY store ply, #3 straight blade used This was my first try doing a traditional pattern, it took me about 30 hours to do with a fretsaw. Came out pretty nice (though the photo isn't).

  24. Nice job! Thanks for choosing my patterns. I have not many such patterns, so it was interesting to creat it. Btw next pattern will be one more Christmas Box with hidden opening mechanism (bells - rotating part). I will add this pattern to my Etsy store during a day.
