    Cherry cross and #300

I found another pattern I really liked. I cut it in cherry. I was going to sell it but decided to keep it. The smaller oak cross is the 300th cross I’ve made in my years. I started with a scroll saw in 1992. My dad bought one and got me started on it. Thanks for looking.

  2. I received a commission from my son-in-law’s sister for me to make her a piece of Intarsia as birthday gift for her husband who likes Beachy scenes, and more so, one that includes a Lighthouse. I happen to have a pattern, that was shared by Allen Barr on FB, of a slightly abstract version of a Lighthouse which she felt would be perfect. This is my interpretation of Allens Pattern. I first needed to convert his PDF of a paper print into a digital file so I could reduce his 15” diameter size and print out the pattern on one piece of 13”x 19” (Super B) paper. The final piece, including frame, is a nominal 12 ½” diameter. Wood used: Aspen, Basswood, Black Limba, Blue Pine, Monkeypod, Padauk, Spalted Maple,Wenge, Yellowheart, and Quarter Sawn White Oak for the Frame. Finish is multiple coats of rattle can spray Clear Gloss Acrylic Finish. Comments and critiques are allways welcome.

  4. Hello all - My name is Cory and I live in Wilmington, NC. New to scrolling as I received a "hand-me-down" saw after my father-in-law upgraded his. Only scrolled a couple projects so far, but having fun and looking to get involved, grab some patterns and ideas, and learn!

    Piggy Bank

Made this Piggy Bank last month and had to wait to see what color it was to be painted. Found out last week it is gonna be a boy. Also got to use my new branding iron. I bought a branding iron thru Rockler years ago, but I'll use this new iron for projects just for the Grandson. I should have used an "X" pattern for the screws holding the acrylic on instead of the "cross" pattern.. that left screw head messes with the look of the eye a little. Working on a wooden rocking horse now for him. I have it temporarily clamped together just to see what it is gonna look like. Everything is cut out and sanded, just need to paint all of the pieces and assemble... then wait about 2 years before he can actually use it!!

  7. Great job. The wood you used for the water is perfect. I am thinking that is the Black Lima.

  8. Hey Everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video, we make some nice Spring Time Flowers In a Flower Pot Featuring A Hummingbird, This Steve Good design would be a great project to give to anyone that has a green thumb or loves plants. I cut this one here from 1/4 and 1/2 inch material and I'll be the first to say that I don't like how it finished up but, I hope you call all still pick up a tip or trick along the way. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

Check, where your blades in correctly. Not joking; I have done it myself a time or two. Teeth to the front!

  10. Since I scroll in the house, I have been using draft inducers from furnaces or water heaters for the vac portion of my dust collection. They work adequately and, while louder than a scroll saw, are quite quiet. I will say that they could use a little more CFM, but when trying to do it on the cheap, its what I could find.

    Wood Glue Prices

Doesn't seem to bother some, their building around me like things are free, then complain how much it cost.

    Baltic birch

I routinely cut 4 layers of 1/8" BB ply with a #1 FD Ultra Reverse blade when making Christmas ornaments. It certainly does dull the blade faster, but nothing like "cutting cement". How do the same blades cut other hardwoods of similar thickness? Is the difference just noticeable or is it dramatic?

I don't have any issues with cutting plywood except that the blades don't last as long. If you want to see hard-to-cut, try a 3/4-inch ipe.

  16. Very nice Tyler. I have seen this pattern before but never thought of cutting it. After watching your videos one sees how the finished projects looks. Looks so much better that a 2-dimensional picture. Going to have to find this pattern and give it a try. Thanks for your videos. Jerry

  17. My most popular item with the locals and the tourists... wall mounted sea turtle key rack and someone asked for a larger version for towels/coats. Carolina Beach is the town I live in.
